At seven months post-op, this type of pain is my only real issue. I am an RN, and realize that this is due to nerve stimulation where the band restricts my stomach. If you pay close attention, you may find that the pain starts about 15-30 minutes after eating. Since whatever you eat stays in your upper pouch for up to 4 hours, the nerve can be continuously stimulated for quite a while.

Severe Pains In Neck After Stuck Episode!
tahbu2 replied to Mama Mama's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am seven months out now and occasionally get intense left shoulder/neck & back pain associated with food intake that is either too much or too fast. No amount of Tylenol or Motrin helps, you just have to wait it out. As mentioned in earlier posts, it is the result of nerve stimulation at the part of the stomach where the band is placed. Just think of it as an occasional not-so-friendly reminder to slow down and watch your total intake. -
Left Shoulder And Arm Pain After Eating!
tahbu2 replied to Beth A's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 7 months post op and I get not only left shoulder pain but also mid back pain when I eat too much or too quickly. The sad thing is that the pain is not immediate (so no early warning to stop eating) and no amount of OTC pain med helps to relieve the discomfort. It is just a matter of time (sometimes it lasts more than an hour) for the pain to dissapate. -

Judith, So how are you doing with soft foods? For me, they were a welcome change. You should start to feel at least a small amount of restriction at this point, provided you are not drinking. -
I have the same problem as anume. I am almost six months post op and still get wicked left shoulder pain from time to time. It usually lasts 10-15 mins and nothing relieves the pain-except time. It is the result of eating too quickly/too much. In my case, I don't get the sensation until a few minutes after I've eaten. So if this happens to you down the road, you'll know why.

Hello Judith67. My name is Michelle and I live just a stone's throw away from you-in New Port Richey. I was banded in February of this year. Doing well overall, but still struggle at times. I would gladly offer up advice or just lend an ear if you would like.
