Feeling Bummed And Not Very Successful!
2012 replied to 0ldM3By3's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Woohoo, Chili is a metabolism food, that's good news! But back to the post, have you tried journaling to see what you are putting in your mouth just to be sure? I know it opened my eyes in a lot of ways. And getting in your liquids is really important too, according to my nutritionist your body needs it to help flush out the fat it is burning. -
Wjat Are The "must Haves" For After Surgery?
2012 replied to Banderina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Some good movies to watch while you are vegging? I stayed at my Dad's the first couple of days after surgery so him and his wife could watch over me and they had Netflix which was nice, daytime TV is horrible . Sugar free popsicles were a life saver for me, still like them to this day., some crystal light or other types of flavoring for water would be good. Milk of Mag in case you get constipated, or just wait until it happens if you have someone that can get it for you? The anesthesia and pain killers cause it. Pillows are good like Wgbem said above, especially to hold against your belly when you get up. Liquid Tylenol might be good too, depends on what the doc instructs you can take after surgery. -
You should focus more on the protein, for the liquid phase you can use Isopure drinks at GNC, try to find them on sale, they can be expensive. And for the mushy phase, I was instructed you can take pretty much anything and put it in a processor, so you can do tuna salad, chicken salad, and shrimp salad. The chicken salad was my favorite personally. They should give you some guidelines to follow to know what to eat. The baby food may be okay here and there, but good luck with it, I tried some myself and it was horrible . I gave it away to a lady at work with a baby because I just could not do it.

I had my first PBing (I think) tonight and I'm not sure why. I ate about a cup of food, went down fine, but then I felt like I was full in my chest and back, drank a few sips to try to help things go down a bit easier, started to hiccup, burped a little, and felt a little different like something was about to come up so I ran to the bathroom and sure enough slime and liquid came up, but no food. Any clue what happened here? Did the drink put me over my limit and it had to come up? It's been about a 1/2 hour and now I feel fine and the full feeling subsided.

Emilybites.com is a good website for recipes too and she even puts the nutritional information at the bottom of her recipes, which is usually the hardest thing to find online, at least for me. Recently I found a recipe for making pizza using a portabella mushroom as the crust, you can find it on youtube and the videos I watched were bandsters, it was pretty good and went down fine, the mushroom turns out moist from the sauce. I found that I can't eat dry mushrooms too well, but this worked.

I like the Zoic chocolate protein drink that I found at Big Lots.

Great job, just make sure get up and walk around a lot, it helps with the gas (and pains if you get them from the gas, my neck and left shoulder hurt when I got surgery). But it gets better!

Wouldn't that be awesome!

That makes sense, thanks! -
If You Had Only Known About The Restriction Issues..,...
2012 replied to Wgbem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wgbem, you can do this and remember your body needs to eat to lose the weight. Like mentioned above, journaling is an awesome tool and this really helps you relearn how to eat. You don't have to do it forever, but you can use it now to learn where you should be at and especially keep track of the fat, carbs, etc (different docs have different instructions). I have been doing it since I got banded (July) and at first it got me in the habit of getting protein in as I'm not a big meat eater and watching those carbs, amazing some of the healthiest things have a lot of carbs. And even on getting my fluids in as that is still a problem. But you hold yourself more accountable and it makes you think about what is going in your mouth. -
The vegetable broth by Swanson is pretty good too, the beef not so much.

Anyone A Band Over Bypass?
2012 replied to norcalgirl211's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Out of curiosity, how is this thought to work? Did the gastric bypass portion stretch and this brings it back all together, or just extra reinforcement? My mom had gastric bypass too. -
I was in the bathroom every 5 minutes (it seemed like) when I was on all liquids, yes it sucks, but it's worth it!

Make sure you are standing up straight and try moving your arms in circles, walk around, to help it to go on through, works for me, it will take a few or more minutes. If all else fails, some say on here that pineapple juice helps with stuck episodes, but I have not tried this yet. Hopefully you don't bring it back up, but it may happen, I have not had this yet, but only on my second fill. Also might want to double check with your doc on instructions of how to eat after a fill. My doc instructs that I can't have solid food until 4 days after a fill because of the possible swelling, I have to go through the process like after the surgery, but in 1 day intervals.

I think it has something to do with your brain receiving the "I'm satisfied" message like 20 minutes after you eat and then it's okay to start drinking at 30 minutes. But I'm sure some of the veteran bandsters will chime in and can shed some light on this.

Looks good, I made the spicy buffalo chicken today and it's really good too.

Did You Feel You Need More Restriction?
2012 replied to Wgbem's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are drinking and will be eating items that slip right on through the band, wait until you start eating solids and you will feel more full, you may still feel you need more restriction, but right now it's just the type of foods you are eating. -
Banded Yesterday And Straving
2012 replied to onexl85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just take it slow when you switch over, my first bite of yogurt after a few days made me pretty nauseous. Sugar free popsicles were my best friends that week, I just found some raspberry and cherry flavored ones at Kroger's today (still eat them now, lol) and they are really good. -

Yum, how do the carbs look?
-
Awesome, I'm going to get that done tomorrow, lol

I made this buffalo chicken today and it is really good, but I didn't have to do the 7-8 hours cook time, but I think my slow cooker has turned into a fast cooker, lol. The ranch helps take some of the bite off the buffalo, I like a little spicy, but not too spicy.

What Does The Green Zone Feel Like For You?
2012 replied to Lapbandster's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Does your stomach stop growling when you reach the green zone? I'm not there yet, but I can go for awhile without food, especially when I am at work and it's non-stop, I usually end up eating because my stomach is yelling at me. -
Some of these shakes can be made into pudding I believe, did you try that? I was put on Medifast for my liquid pre-op diet and this worked, but stay far away from the gelatin protein mix, most disgusting think I've ever had
