What Can We Take For Gas.....
2012 replied to Lanna85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like Patty said above, please try to walk as much as you can, I did not start feeling better until I got up. Even right after I woke up after surgery, I felt really bad, but as soon as I walked around I felt a hundred times better. Although, like Banjo said, I took Gas-X strips the following week after surgery, so not sure if that helped too or not. The strips dissolve on your tongue. -
Wedding Meal Decision 10 Weeks Out From Surgery..
2012 replied to Banderina's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't know what Francaise even is, but if you can get something that has sauce, that would be safer. Just like mentioned above, you might get stuck, but sauce seems to help. I always eat chicken with sauce (found some awesome SF BBQ sauce) and only got stuck the one time I ate chicken without sauce, lesson learned. -
Hi, if you consider 35 young, I'm on here pretty often . I know when I was your age, I did not consider my age young, lol, but now that I'm here, I don't feel any different than I did at your age. And you're right, I do keep it a secret and have only told my mom, dad, (not my brother), and 2 ladies (older ladies) at work that would be understanding, supportive, and not tell anyone. Let me know if I can help, congrats on your surgery, I had my 07/09/12.

Hi Cooper, I don't have an explanation for the no gummy vitamins, I just have a list that said to avoid Centrum, One A Day, Flinstone, generic store brands and no gummy vitamins. Although, I did find this online, which may help: http://foodladyrd.com/multivitamin-supplements-for-bariatric-patients/. I would think the concern for sugar content may play a role in this advice as well.

What Type Of Diets Are U Required To Be On
2012 replied to awood51190's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm a little biased as this was my surgeon, but Dr. Trace Curry has an office in Columbus and Cincinnati. I don't know Ohio that well, but I think Akron is not too far away. I'm in Northern Kentucky, so I went through the Cincinnati office. -
People that criticize others for stupid crap like spelling and grammar on a forum like this just need to get a life, period. A lot of these people use their phone and you know all of the messed up messages that come across because your "smart" phone used its own word.

I'm looking for a quality vitamin too (nut. says stay away from centrum, one a day, and several others) and so far I've not had much luck, she did say Nature's Way was good, so I tried the liquid version (pills are huge) and it is pretty gross, so I advise staying away . And for some reason you are supposed to stay away from gummy (per nut.) so I can't even try the Alive gummy version. So I hope some people can chime in with some good vitamins.

What did the doc say about losing weight too fast? I have not been eating that much lately, which I know is not good, but due to my job, just time and all that fun stuff, I've not been eating that much.
-
Whew, thanks Mis!

Does caffeine really have an impact? I drink coffee every morning.

I had asked my nutritionist about the whole protein drink and then fluids and she said a "liquid is a liquid", so you don't have to wait the 30 minutes.

Wendy and g25, everyone loses at different rates and it all depends on where someone starts, so don't get too caught up in comparing yourself to others. Be happy you are losing . I was pretty heavy for my height and I've been pretty happy with the loss so far but what has helped me the most is journaling, it really points out foods you would not think were that bad. I have over 4cc, this last fill I got last weekend she said it was a little fill, so I have no clue what I have at this point, but now I want to take it slow. I have pretty good satiety and kept getting stuck last week while during TOM time, so I didn't want too much of a fill, but now I need to watch for that week each month as you swell and this causes more stuck episodes (per the RN doing the fill), which I typically don't experience. I've been bad and not exercised yet, but I imagine my plateau will hit soon and I'll need to exercise or stay the same. If I can help, let me know.

And they also have an insurance specialist that can go over all of the hurdles with you, pretty helpful group.

Hi Redredreba, since you are in Ohio and depending where you are located, Dr. Curry is pretty good and experienced. That is who I had my surgery with. They have free seminars you can sign up and get information as a starting point. They have an office in Columbus and Evandale. I went to Evandale as I'm in Northern Kentucky and it was closer.

I was self pay ($13,000) and not regretting it yet , I'm a little over 3 months in.

Beautiful bike!

My nutritionist says you can deduct the fiber and sugar alcohols to come up with the carbs. But be forewarned that too many pieces of sugar free candy (sometimes even just 2 or 3) can make you sick as a dog. I learned the hard way
-
I'm happy for you and your success. Did they base the no fill on the weight loss or hours of not being hungry? I am going in for my third fill tomorrow and they don't ask me about how often I get hungry, so I'm not sure how they judge it, but maybe they wait for a couple of fills before they start asking this.

Rethinking The Band
2012 replied to JerseyShoreDisneyDiva's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Another spin on it is, can you keep the weight off? The big thing for me in getting the band is keeping it off. I have lost 100 lbs twice, 40 lbs, so on and so on, and it comes back every time and more comes back every time with it. -
What Percentage Of People Have Acid Reflux Issues Post Surgery
2012 replied to marketingdude's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My bad marketingdude, I didn't write that first post too well, I meant that the hiatal hernia causes reflux which I'm sure was more clear through the second post with the docs info. Guess I shouldn't be trying to type on here late at night, lol -
What Percentage Of People Have Acid Reflux Issues Post Surgery
2012 replied to marketingdude's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
My understanding of a hiatal hernia is that your stomach is pushing up where it's not supposed to be and therefore has an impact on stomach acid. Although, my doc actually sent an email to me after surgery and this may help answer your questions: "Hiatal hernia is a condition that we find commonly in our patients. Some who have hiatal hernias have reflux symptoms, while others have no apparent symptoms at all. Failure to repair a hiatal hernia can lead to severe problems with reflux after surgery, so we always repair them when we find them. Here is a link to the National Institute of Health's web site, which has some good information on hiatal hernias: http://www.ncbi.nlm....lth/PMH0002122/ Here is a link to a YouTube video of one of our hiatal repairs narrated by me: Patients who have hiatal repairs often experience more pain in the left shoulder and back from the sutures in the diaphragm." -
What Percentage Of People Have Acid Reflux Issues Post Surgery
2012 replied to marketingdude's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
A lot of people on here end up having hiatal hernia repair done and this causes acid reflux. My doc did the hiatal hernia repair (had no clue I even had one, but was starting to experience acid reflux a little before surgery) at the same time of being banded and I've been good ever since. -
Hi all, I looked around and could not find an answer, but I believe I Pb'd for the first time yesterday. So I ate dinner (pizza with portabella mushroom as the crust so lap band friendly). It went down fine, but not long after eating I felt pretty full in my chest like I could feel it in my chest and back, but I didn't think I was stuck. I took a few sips of cold tea to help ease the discomfort, then not long after I hiccupped, burped a little, it felt a little odd so I ran to the bathroom and liquid came up with saliva, no food. Any clue what I did wrong? It was not more than a cup of food and I did not drink a lot, so not sure what happened? Any thoughts? And I'm down 45 as of today, woopwoop!

Pb'd Yesterday, Bandster Vets, What Did I Do Wrong?
2012 replied to 2012's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you all, I will watch the liquids right after and next time I feel too "stuffed", I will let it pass on through. Today everything all went down just fine . -
Awesome job!! So happy for you
