I'm having my surgery the 31st and I have been using the Unjury protein shakes. My favorite is the Chocolate Splendor (I mix it with Light Chocolate Soy milk) but the other flavors are good to. I mix the vanilla with orange sugar free Kool-Aid for a change of pace. I also bought the unflavored but haven't tried it yet. Some folks like the Muscle Milk light.

Newbie, Surgery the 28th!
Instyle98 replied to TiffanyK's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I'm Sandy and my surgery is scheduled for the 31st! Happy New Year to me! LOL! Good luck on your surgery. -
Good luck! Let us know how you are doing!
-
I haven't had my surgery yet (scheduled for 12/31) but I bought the Bella 13330 Blender at Macy's for my protein drinks. I like it pretty well. I like that I can drink my shake right from the blender cup. It comes with a lip attachment that you put on after you take the blade attachment off. It's small, quick, easy and fast to clean up. I can blend a drink and put it in the refrigerator or in the freezer in the same cup.

Did anyone binge eat before the band?
Instyle98 replied to wozzicat's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yep, sure did. Originally my surgery was scheduled for 12/17 but I wasn't told until late in the day 12/6 and wasn't able to start my pre-op diet until 12/9. My preop visit with my doctor was 12/17 and I told him the situation because I was worried about the 2 week requirement so he rescheduled my surgery to 12/31. Realizing I had an extra week to wait, I immediately went off of my pre-op diet. 12/16 I had my "last supper" and started my preop diet again on 12/17. It's been hard with Christmas right in the middle of it and if I didn't have surgery scheduled, I probably would have cheated. That's why I need to do this. I simply can't do it on my own anymore. Now that I'm having surgery and being held accountable to someone, I'm following the rules. I got rid of most of the junk stuff in my house so if I have a really weak moment, there is nothing tempting me, but it's still tough. When that happens I remind myself how much I weigh (I say it out loud to myself if I have to) and how humiliating that is for me. On the other hand I think I'm down 10 lbs so stepping on the scale is my motivator too. If you don't have to be on your preop diet yet, eat some of your favorite things, stop thinking that you can't ever have them again and when it's time, get on with the preop diet. There will be a time hopefully that you can taste your favorites again (in moderation), it's just not now. I have a magnet on my refrigerator that says, "Nothing tastes as good as being thin feels!" You know what? It's true! -
I Don't Want To Tell Anyone I'm Considering Lapband
Instyle98 replied to momof02's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I'm scheduled for surgery 12/31 and I have only told 2 people - my husband and one person that I know who had gastric bypass. I didn't even want to tell her, but when she asked me why I didn't have surgery, I spilled the beans. Part of me is afraid of failure and the other part is just shame. I lost a lot of weight before (165 lbs) only to gain most of it back and I feel like a huge failure. Getting lapband surgery also makes me feel like a failure. I don't think anyone else that has WLS is a failure, just me. I was so proud that I had lost weight before without surgery or medication, but here I am again. I really just want to get the weight off before everyone knows I gained it back. Right now I'm trying to not beat myself up over it and stay focused because the most important thing is for me to take care of myself and do what I need to be happy. My husband is supportive but he also wonders why I just don't do it without such drastic measures. Hah! If I could, I would have done it! Right now the thing keeping me on my pre-op diet is the fact that my surgery is scheduled. Sure if I could just stay on 2 protein shakes a day and 1 meal of lean protein and veg without surgery I would. However, if I wasn't committed to my surgery I would probably have a burger or some pizza right now! I think it's time to put all of those old stigmas and beliefs about overweight people on the shelf and get down to business! -
I lost weight on my own. I went through some tough times (lost several family members) lost a good amount without really trying - 80 lbs and then decided if I lost that much I should put some effort into it. Unfortunately I became obsessed with weight loss and became anorexic and had a bad case of body dysmorphic disorder. I went from a size 24W to a 6 - 8 (even had some size 4's) and thought that I still needed to lose weight. Along the way I had to have my gall bladder removed and suffered a Vitamin B deficiency so severe my doctors thought I had either suffered a stroke or had MS at first and it was all due to rapid weight loss. I had such a hard time believing I was a small person that I had to keep checking my clothing tags in my closet! Now, I don't want to look at my clothing tags! I'm determined to lose weight in a healthy manner this time with sensible goals.

2nd day pre op liquid diet
Instyle98 replied to brannewmee's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use light soy milk rather than the full calorie stuff. -
Good luck to both of you! Keep us posted!

I'm scheduled for surgery on 12/31 and failing has been one of my biggest fears. However, you're never a failure until you quit trying. I've already failed myself once by gaining back almost all of the 165 lbs I lost. This time I'm trying to lose weight safely and in a healthy manner and hopefully for good. I'm trying to stay focused and motivated.

Starting Pre-Op diet tomorrow Anyone Else
Instyle98 replied to Ms.Millie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, I'm only on my second day of 2 protein drinks and one meal of lean protein, veg and fruit and I'm tired, hungry and have a headache. I'm normally not a whiner, but I'm a little cranky! That's what I get for being so undisciplined for such a long time. I did go to the grocery store this morning to get some things and I exercised remarkable restraint. My next step will be to clean out the refrigerator and pantry. -

nikils015, If you stick to what he prescribed, you'll probably lose the weight. You'll be miserable, but you will lose it. Just remember, this is only temporary. When is your surgery? -

Instyle98 replied to Ms.Millie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started my 14 day pre-op diet today. I even went for a walk this morning! Yea me! -
I'm so sorry you feel alone in this. My husband is supportive of my procedure, but he did say I should be sure I'm doing this for myself and not him and he's right. Hopefully you will meet others that have had/are having weight loss surgery and can form a comraderie with them. I've already met a few people while sitting in the waiting room! Just exchange email addresses and keep in touch, plus attend some support groups and I'm sure you will find some folks to surround yourself with. This is a chance for you to prove those naysayers wrong! Let their negativity be your fuel to keep you motivated. Damn the torpedoes and full speed ahead!

Hi I haven't been banded yet, so you can take this advice for whatever it is worth. When is your next appointment? It really sounds like you are losing weight too rapidly (although weight loss is good, rapid loss is not - trust me, I know). If you're feeling fatigued and are seeing changes in your hair and skin in such a short time, something is not right. Sometimes there is a misunderstanding or breakdown when trying to communicate to medical folks over the phone. I think it simply happens because not only are they busy, but they hear from a lot of patients who over think things and exaggerate their situation and truth be told doctors don't always listen like they should to overweight people. Many think we are a bunch of complainers that are lazy and eat too much. She may not be hearing you. I would make another call and ask to speak to the doctor if possible. If not, talk to the nurse again and see if you can schedule your appointment sooner. Better safe than sorry. I hope things get better for you soon!

Starting Pre-Op diet tomorrow Anyone Else
Instyle98 replied to Ms.Millie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my pre-op appointment yesterday and my surgery date was changed to 12/31. I told the doctor that my preop and surgery date was given to me only late last week, so I was unable to start the diet 14 days prior to surgery so he changed the date. The good thing though is that after my appointment I think I'm starting to get my motivation back to go forward with the surgery and all that goes with it. -
High protein pre-op diet verses liquid pre-op diet
Instyle98 replied to Dee123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My pre-op diet consists of 2 protein shakes and 1 meal of 3 oz meat, 1 cup veg and some fruit and no dairy. I've been mixing my shakes with soy milk. -
I'm too scared, and think I will try it myself.
Instyle98 replied to SandyC2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
It is something to think long and hard about - I know I did for a long time. I have a close friend that I helped and watched go through a gastric bypass several years ago, and realized that procedure was just not for me. At the time, I didn't think any procedure was for me. After many discussions with several different health professionals and research, I'm hoping that this will help. For me, this is an aid with weight control. I was a hard decision because I know I have to give up not only some foods that I love and crave, but many activities I enjoy that revolve around food. I pray that I will be successful. I chose lap-band since it is the least invasive and reversible if necessary. Whatever you choose to do, good luck - it's a difficult journey for all of us. Sandy -

Instyle98 replied to SandyC2's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Sandy I think your fears are normal and while there certainly are risks with any surgery, chances are you will come through this fine. That's why they do all of the pre-op testing! If you don't take off the excess weight, you're still a high risk for something happening to you. I too lost a great amount of weight by myself (not in a healthy way though) - 165 lbs only to do what I said I would never do - be fat again! It kills me to admit I need this kind of help, but I don't want to be big anymore. Do what is right for you, but remember life is full of risk. Good luck! -
Starting Pre-Op diet tomorrow Anyone Else
Instyle98 replied to Ms.Millie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just started my pre-op diet and I see the surgeon tomorrow. My surgery is scheduled for Dec 17. This is going to be tough, but I'm trying to stay focused. -
Hello! I had my consultation appointment with the Lap-Band Center and first visit with the nurse yesterday! I've been reviewing all of the information and am still trying to decide if this is the right choice for me. I think it is, but I was given information I hadn't considered before. My insurance requires a 4 month waiting period before I can have the procedure.
-
Well, I think this is probably the right thing for me. I've just been thinking about how much I'm going to have to change my relationship with food and my lifestyle. I didn't realize there were foods you can no longer eat, etc. and truthfully I thought it was going to be easier than it sounds. I feel like this is a last resort and what if I fail? Initially I was disappointed that I have to wait 4 months, but now I'm glad I have the time to accept and deal with the changes I will have to make. I lost a significant amount of weight in the past (not in a healthy way, either), but gained a lot back and realize I can't do it on my own again.
