  1. I'm not a doctor but I was prescribed dilaudid for my ovarian cyst pain and eventually the dilaudid is what kept me from passing gas and was in fact causing my pain. Dilaudid also gave me severe constipation which caused me pain in my stomach and eventually the pain got so bad that I wasn't able to walk and had to be pushed around in a wheel chair. I also had a lot of pain when standing. Those meds made it to where I couldn't fart, burp, and poop. I had lots of gas built up in my stomach that I couldn't get out. Don't get me wrong pain meds are very helpful but in a lot of people they tend to cause more issues than they solve. The only way for me to get back to normal after taking too many pain pills, was to stop taking them. Yes it will be uncomfortable for a day or 2 but once your digestive tract starts working again, you will feel better. Pain meds tend to screw up the way your body gets rid of gas and the way it functions. Also when I was taking lots of dilaudid I eventually couldn't eat or drink anything, I would vomit and became dehydrated. Like I said earlier I'm not a doctor and I don't work in the medical field so I'm only able to offer you advice on what I've experienced and it's that pain meds tend to cause more problems than they solve when used for too long. I hope you feel better soon. ETA: My docs were able to figure out that it was the dilaudid causing me problems because when they listened to my stomach they couldn't hear anything. There were no digestion or gas sounds in there. My doc told me to stop the pain meds and to take glycolax to soften my stool and to get my digestive tract moving again. Once I was able to poop, I started burping and passing the gas that had been trapped for so long. I've never looked at pain meds the same ever since.

    In Mourning....

The first few days after surgery I had buyers remorse and I even contemplated asking my surgeon to put my stomach back together lol I blame that irrational thought on the morphine that was making me loopy. Around day 4 I was so happy that I had the sleeve. The transition from surgery sucks because you go in feeling great and then you leave feeling like crap and of course it's natural to want to go back to feeling better and I think that's what my problem was. Also when I was puking my brains out I definitely thought "wtf was I thinking". Puking sucks and barely being able to drink anything sucked and I thought I had screwed my body up but thankfully I feel great now and have zero regrets
  3. I'm finding it easier to get in my fluids and it's not taking me hours to drink drink 1 cup of water. All the glue in my belly button is starting to get flaky and I'm hoping next week the surgeon will remove it but I'm pretty sure it will fall out on its own before then. I've lost about 12 lbs from my highest but unfortunately I don't have a home scale and have to go by what the doc scale says.

    Birth Control Post Surgery? Nuvaring?

I had the paragard for 3 yrs and the same thing happened to me and plus it caused me to gain weight. I was allergic to the copper and my body was fighting that foreign object. I gained about 50 lbs on depo. Thankfully my husband got snipped in August and I haven't been on birth control since July.

    No More Dry Skin?

I'm praying it will help my skin. I never had skin problems until I moved to Colorado and now we live at 6000 ft elevation and it's so dry here. It would be nice if this surgery did end up heping it.

    When Did You Feel Yourself?

LOL at the thread title *sorry I have a dirty mind* By day 3 post op I felt back to normal and now that I'm a week out I have zero pain and my incision doesn't hurt. I have 3 kiddos and have been able to do everything for them that I was doing before.
  8. More than likely you were given some meds to help take the edge off. I was also given meds to take the edge off but I guess I was so anxious that it only took me down to the point where I didn't care and wasn't scared but I still felt very alert and aware of my surroundings. I remember waiting for what seemed 30 mins after they administered the relaxing meds. Finally they came to wheel me to the OR and I remember it being so cold that I was shivering and asking questions about why they keep the temp so low. I told them all about my period yada yada lol. I remember them having me scoot onto the OR table. They asked if they could strap my arms and I hesitated but said yeah. They asked if I was claustrophobic and sure enough I am so they decided to wait until I was knocked out. Next thing I remember is the anesthesiologist putting the mask on my face and telling me to breath deeply. I hate any type of mask on my face but I kept breathing deep and then I felt cold air coming through it after a couple of breaths. He told me to think about the beach and I did, fell asleep after 2 deep breaths of the cold air in the breathing mask. I had about 6 breaths total before I fell asleep. Next thing I remember is waking up in recovery in excruciating pain. I was in so much pain that I couldn't even cry. I have a very high pain tolerance, I don't give birth with pain meds and I had a homebirth with my 3rd kiddo. My friends are amazed that I remember being wheeled back to the OR but supposedly it's pretty rare. I did have a panic attack before they gave me the relaxing meds. My hands and forearm started going numb. I was a total wreck lol it was my very first surgery and I didn't know what to expect

    Nervous Surgery Tomorrow!

You will be fine. Sending prayers your way
  10. It's so weird how quickly the body bounces back from surgery. My single incision no longer hurts and I've been sleeping a little better. I still have the annoying cough and it's been making it hard to fall asleep but I just make sure to use the humidifier. I have no idea if I've lost weight but I may consider buying a scale on the 15th (payday). I keep waking up during the night with cramps in my tummy. I guess I need to try and eat a little bit more before bed so that my stomach has something to digest. Also drinking water makes my stomach cramp but I'm gonna continue trying to work water into my diet because I hate juice. I'm eating some greek yogurt right now trying to see if this will help me sleep better. Did anyone get thrush from all the meds? My tongue was so white but I've dealt with it before because steroids tend to make me get thrush also. Yogurt cures it for me, thank goodness.

    Stretching Your Sleeve?

I'm 5 days post op and it takes me almost 2 hrs to drink a whole 8oz protein shake. Last night I drank a 10 oz campbells cream chicken soup and it was cold by the time I finished. It took me about 2.5 hrs to drink it all. it seems like you wont have any problems getting in your fluids
  12. Also I loved water before surgery and now I feel like I'm about to vomit. Maybe I will stick to G2 gatorade.
  13. Is anyone else cold? Since I've came back home I've upped the heat to 76 degrees, it was set at 74 for a while and even that was too warm for me. Now my feet feel cold and I'm shivering more. It's weird to sleep with the comforter on. I used to have a fan blowing on me but now it's too chilly for that. The good thing is that I don't mind snuggling with my hubby in bed, whereas in the past I would get mad because he made me sweat more. It's weird how things change after surgery. Time to put on some socks Oh and now I hate getting in the bed when it's cold.

My Husband Thinks I'm Copping Out

I don't know about anyone else but I know when I was laying in the hospital bed in pain barfing my brains out (not literally), I was envisioning someone coming up to me and saying " You (I) took the easy way out". I envisioned myself literally punching them in the face lol. IMO the easy way out would of been to remain obese or continue crash dieting, heck I could eat whatever I wanted. Of course weight gain sucks but remaining obese would of been a lot easier than having to change my diet through surgery and gosh don't make me vent about my recovery lol. Surgery was definitely my last attempt at losing weight and the thought of possibly dying and never seeing my kids ever again was by no means the easy way out. Unfortunately some people do die from wls and I'm pretty confident in saying that most people that end up having wls, they have years of crash dieting under their belt or yrs of trying to change there way of eating. *I have no idea what sent me on a tangent lol. I should be in bed* OP I wouldn't worry about convincing your husband or anyone for that matter of why you are having the surgery. This is your life and you have to do what you feel is right for yourself. He may change his view after you have surgery and start losing the weight or he may not. My husband seems very ENTHUSIASTIC about me losing the weight and I'm like huh? He seems over joyed with having me lose the weight but I guess he kept those feelings secret from me because I though he'd be scared of losing me if I became skinny lol. Men are weird

    I'm Getting Sleeved Today!

Today is my 4th day post op and I feel amazing. My energy is back and I'm feeling back to normal and so happy that I have the sleeve. I've sat on the floor and played with my 12 month old, I'm sleeping better. I'm glad the fog has lifted and now I feel like I made the best decision of my life When I had the buyers remorse I knew it was normal because a lot of people posted about it but to all those people who are pre-op just know that it does pass and it gets better. Good Luck to all those who will be having surgery in the future

    Lapband Vs Sleeve

The lap band didn't seem like a permanent surgery and I couldn't imagine having to live 20+ yrs with it in me. Plus I've noticed that most end up having to get revised to something different. I didn't want the gastric bypass because of the malabsorption and the dumping. If I want to enjoy a cookie or something with sugar, I don't want to be in pain. I felt like the sleeve will have me eating like a normal skinny person (small portions of food). Also I didn't want to have to take tons of vitamins or have constant iron infusions. Plus my surgeon said that he's removed more than he's put in and he prefers not to do them.
  17. More than likely you are fine. I puked the day of surgery and the day after about 10+ different times. It was horrible and I was worried about ripping the staple line but thankfully I'm fine. Just learn from your mistake and take it slower next time

    Gas Pain After Surgery

ARe you still taking pain meds and when did you stop taking them? If so then stop because they can slow down your digestive track and make it hard to get the gas out. The gas strips didn't work for me but I only took 1. Try drinking some water. I ended up passing my gas by farting and burping.

    Sleeved 10/2

I was sleeved the same day as you and went through the depression phase. When I woke up I remembered thinking wtf did I do. I had a ton of regret but thankfully today I'm feeling better. I don't have a scale at home, so I have no idea what my starting weight was or if I've lost weight since surgery. I'm hating the liquid diet but they said I only have to do it for 1-2 weeks, I plan to test out some puree foods after the 1 week mark.

    Pain Meds?

My surgeon sent me home with some percocets but I havent taken any since I HATE pain meds. Pain meds always cause me a ton of problems. I stopped all pain meds the day after surgery. The morphine was making me vomit and itch, so I said screw this lol and didn't touch the med pump after I figured out what was causing the vomiting.
  21. Like the others have mentioned you have to make sure that you constantly sip on something throughout the day, I even wake up during the night to sip. I sip on gatorade because water just doesn't cut it and I need the electrolytes. Also sip on a protein shake. It takes me hours to drink a 8oz protein shake but just make getting in your liquids a priority and when you wake up during the middle of the night sip some more.
  22. My shoulder was hurting a little yesterday but I don't have any gas pains today. I did take one gas strip about 2 days ago but it didn't really help. Today I don't have any gas pains and I'm feeling awesome, like I can do some housework and play with my crazy hijos (kids). You will be fine Also walking helps get the gas moving. My digestive track doesn't function to well when I take pain meds and I eventually find it hard to rid my body of gas. Once I stopped taking pain meds I was able to fart and burp and the gas quickly came out. I stopped taking pain meds at 1 day post op.
  23. I got you all beat! I started my period the day of surgery lol. OMG it sucked so bad having someone change my pad for me and dealing with my blood on the bed constantly. I've been using tampons now that I'm home. Sleeping has been hard but I think it's because of my reduced calories and not being able to eat anything. I was able to get in about 60g of protein last night and it felt pretty good but it took hours, oh and I'm still breastfeeding so I have to make sure to get in some protein and lots of fluids. When I wake up during the night I drink my fluids, so I'm constantly drinking. I think I drank about 60 oz of fluids yesterday. I had to sleep with the humidifier on last night because I've had this annoying cough from the breathing tube. I was finally able to sleep for a good portion. I did roll on to my belly last night and it was a little uncomfortable but I've been partially laying on my stomach since coming home. Today I'm feeling great, I feel like the cloud has finally lifted from over me. My one incision is still a little sore but on a scale of 1-10 it's only a 1.
  24. Anyone find themselves dreaming about food constantly? Gosh I'm thinking about some amazing recipes I can't wait to try in a few weeks.
  25. I'm doing a lot better today. The hardest day was the 1st day because I woke up from general anesthesia without pain meds. The gas pains were unbearable. I vomitied a lot while in the hospital and I was so tired that all I wanted to do was rest. I came home from the hospital yesterday and I can't wait to feel at least 90% again. My stomach has been gurgling a lot, so I just took a Nexium pill to help get my stomach acid under control. My body feels like it's in shock because I went from eating over 2000 cals a day to now eating about 500 cals. I'm constantly cold and wearing socks around the house. Usually I'm like a oven but now I'm always shivering. The only incision I have is in my belly button and it doesn't bother me anymore. I drank about 2 Protein shakes today, so I've had about 40g of protein. I've also been sipping on gatorade through out the day, so I've had about 40oz of liquid (including protein shakes). I'm just taking it one day at a time
