Any Oklahoma Sleevers
Aaron in Tulsa replied to SpaceyCasey's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Anyone here who had their surgery at Weight Wise in Edmond want to give me a rundown of what I should expect to happen when I go for my surgery tomorrow? Like...will there be blood work or a urine test or will I just go to the room? Will they give me "happy medicine" before the surgery? About how long after I check in will I go back to the O.R.? Thanks! -
It's official. I'll be joining the land of the sleeved a week from tomorrow. Squeeeee!

Any Oklahoma Sleevers

I'm having my surgery next Tuesday with Dr. Broussard in Edmond. I'm self-pay and the wife vetoed the Mexico idea, so I shopped around and Weight Wise has a great cash price and Dr. B is awesome. Looking forward to starting my journey! -
Just got scheduled for next Tuesday, 10/30. I'm going to miss Halloween, but I hate Halloween, so no loss there. :-) Looking forward to new beginnings.

So I'm having my surgery October 30 PROVIDED I lose the remaining 14 lbs I have to lose by my pre-op appointment OCTOBER 22!!!! Yikes! So my NUT put me on a protein shake-only diet. My wife starts a new job Nov. 1 so I can't do November, and after that my next option with my schedule is February. So here goes nothing!

Sometimes You Feel Like A Nut, Sometimes You Don't

I'm self-pay in the U.S. and I see my dietician monthly. It's just $20 for 30 minutes. Plus my Dr's office has a deal for self-pay patients where you pay $300 before surgery and you get free monthly visits with the doc, dietician, and exercise physiologist for two years! I thought the dietician would be a huge waste of time, but it turns out she's invaluable. -
Doc says I'll be able to take my pills after surgery and I won't need to crush them or get liquids compounded. What is your experience with this? I take a tiny bp pill, Seroquel 200 mg, and fluvoxamine 100 mg. He said multivitamin will be gummy since it's so large.

Did Anyone Not Do A Leak Test?
Aaron in Tulsa replied to smb's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon tests in the OR. He said he used to do another test before discharge but a large percentage of patients got sick from the test and had to spend an extra night in the hospital, and he never found a leak in over 400 post-op tests. -
If that's true I'll be a good 25 inches when I'm done. Whew.

How Did You Choose Your Screen Name?
Aaron in Tulsa replied to Pookeyism's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
At first, I was cons154. That was the catalog code for a class I took in college, and I use it on another website. (Cons=conservatory) Then I realized that people might think I was an ex-con and had been convicted 154 times. Sooo... -
Pre-Op Testing Requirements?

I should add that I did also have a psych eval. I didn't put it because I assumed everybody had that! :-) -

Pre-Op Testing Requirements?
Aaron in Tulsa replied to Raven21's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm self-pay. Because I'm young and in relatively good health, my doc is only requiring blood work and an ekg. I had a sleep study in 2009 and was diagnosed with sleep apnea, so he's not making me have another one of those. -

Awesome! I'm preop and right about your same preop size -- 364. Great to see that it can be done. -
Hemorroids?! Is This Normal?!
Aaron in Tulsa replied to Blugirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Unless they're terrible, they usually go away. All they are is swollen blood vessels, so once the swelling goes down, they're done. The really really big ones sometimes need to be surgically removed. I've never had one of those. -

I'm pre-op but I have dealt with hemorrhoids. Blech. Best thing is witch hazel. You can buy the pre-moistened Preparation H wipes, or if you're cheap (like me), you can just buy a bottle of witch hazel at the pharmacy and use a paper towel to apply it. -
Went to the Dr last week. Have to lose 36 lbs before surgery. Lost 17 in the last month! I can't get off work in October, so I'm looking toward the end of October or beginning of November. Doc said there should be no problem having surgery on Oct. 30! Just have to lose 19 more pesky pounds...
-
Welcome! I'm pre-op as well. There's no better place than here to get support and answers!

PB2! Try it! It's powdered defatted peanuts. Tastes exactly like real peanut butter when mixed with a tiny bit of water. Very low fat and low in calories. You have to order it from Amazon or from the PB2 website.

Holler! Welcome and congratulations!

I went to my first support group meeting today. Absolutely WORTHLESS. It was basically an excuse for the presiding doctor (not my doctor) to talk about himself. It made me incredibly grateful for VST, the people here, and the help I'm getting. I don't believe I'd be confident AT ALL in this journey if I only had the "support" group to go on.
