The Psychology Of Size
alicesandra replied to Sojourner's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Very well thought out post, enjoyed reading it. I will also have trouble buying smaller clothes, I have always been a very large girl, and within the last two months I have noticed changes with myself. Seat belts being looser, I can fit into the chairs outside of my doctors waiting room, machines at curves are so much easier for me to get in and out of, and the most important/biggest thing to me - the fact that I now have so much more leg room when it comes to sitting in the passanger seat of a car. These little changes, have made a world of difference in my thinking, just because I can now fit into things/more comfortably in stuff I was never able to before. My friends have noticed I am shrinking, my family - my clothes, shirts in particular, are starting to become baggy on me. Pants are becomming loose. It's just amazing to me. I believe I will have issues shopping in a few months times when I start shopping for a new wardrobe, because I am so used to being in the biggest possible sizes. That is something that will never change for me, as I spent 12 out of my 22 years looking directly at the biggest end. -
Nothing like that, just a few red spots that I started breaking out in!

I have never once had a allergic reaction to anything before, which is why I thought I would ask here first! I have an appointment with my nutritionist monday, so I'll call and see if I can get in with my doctor for a quick appointment after as well. Thanks!

I refuse to buy new clothes until November-December range. Maybe a few pairs of jeans before then if needed, but at the rate I am losing weight, any clothes I buy now will be too big in a few months.

Just Got My Surgery Date!! 8/23
alicesandra replied to Jason Can Do it!'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! The waiting for my surgery day to come was probably the most hardest/most anxiety inducing wait I have ever had in my life. Adding onto what lucie said; I'm just about two weeks post-op and I, as well as everyone around me, has already noticed amazing changes in such a short time. -
My story is kind of a reversal from most I have seen here(and I in no way mean that in any kind of offensive manor, in case someone does think of my statement being that way). I am not a over eater, I don't eat from emotions, or anything like that, I am in-fact an under eater. I had two main issues that became a mix for destruction: My mom's eating habits, and my dad's gene's. My mom is one of those women that don't eat much at all. Since I was little, I have had the same eating habits as her, and because of that anything I did eat, it piled on the weight. I have been programmed to eat healthy. I have seen nutritionists since I was 10, I have done so many different kinds of diets it's insane. My only problem is, that I just don't eat enough. My nutritionists always got annoyed because I just couldn't keep up with eating the amount of food that wanted me to be eating. The second big reason, my dads gene's. My dad is a big man, but he also can lose weight like crazy by being active. I am built exactly like my dad, but because I also had my moms eating habit, I ended up being extremely overweight. I was not a very active person growing up, so the weight continued to pile on. I have been afraid of pretty much everyone my entire life, because of it. My weight kept me shut in, it kept me away from having any kind of life a normal happy child/teenager should of had. Around the age of 18, I decided I wanted to go forward with WLS. After three failed attempts at that, one rejection for not being ready, I couldn't commit to becoming active - the second was the behaviorist not liking my support circle - the third because again, he didn't believe I was ready. It wasn't until the beginning of this year that I decided to do a complete 180 with my way of thinking. I started looking into lap band, I went to seminars, got in contact with the surgeon & nutritionist around here. I got into curves around the end of April. Within 3 months, I have lost 63-64 pounds and I can't wait to see what happens within the next few months when I can get back into my groove there.

Don't Weigh Myself?!?!?!?!?!
alicesandra replied to melissamiranda's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Banded on 7/23, I have not weighed myself once. I haven't actually weighed myself in years, because the numbers were scary. I choose not to do it now, because I don't actually know how much weight I have lost post-op. When I went in for my first week post-op check, I had lost 28 pounds since the 16th of July, but I am unsure how much of that was from the pre-op diet, and how much was after surgery. -
congrats! make sure to follow all instructions!

alicesandra replied to El_Cid's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats & good luck! 10 days post op for me. Make sure you rest as much as your body tells you too! -
Good luck! I had a strict optifast pre-op diet (5 shakes, 4 bars daily) for three weeks. It gets easier!

alicesandra replied to Jellyfish's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon required the one night stay, I can't complain, I was so tired that day between the surgery & all the morphine. -

alicesandra replied to michelleaudio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

5 Days Post Op! Need Suggestions
alicesandra posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So far I have been drinking 4 slim fast (as recommended!) Meal Replacement shakes a day, with a 25 calorie/no sugar added popsicle in between if my stomach starts hurting. Does anyone have any other suggestions for what I could use instead of slim fast? I really do want a variety so I don't get bored/annoyed by having the same thing every day up until soft food stage. I used Optifast pre-op diet, so i'm staying away from that. -
Do not worry. Recovery is about healing, not losing weight. Some will gain, some will lose. Just do everything requested by doctors and make sure recovery goes well! And don't look at the scales for a few weeks! I refuse to until my 6-8 week mark for this reason

What Made You Decide To Choose The Lap Band Over Other Weight Loss Surgeries?
alicesandra replied to Lapbandster's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I spent years running around trying to get approved for WLS (15-21). In those six years, I got exactly nowhere because the behaviorist had a problem with my parents and refused to allow me to go ahead, but I was determined. After he sent me the third rejection letter, reason being because he didn't believe I had the right support system, I gave up. It wasn't until my dad had found this article in a local newspaper about two women having amazing results after getting lap band, about 5 months ago, that I considered going down this route. I am now a week post-op and I could not be more prouder of my decision. No matter what way I wanted to go with the surgery, I had massive amounts of support from friends & family. I am so thankful that I went this way. As others have listed, I am sure I would of regretted ruining my stomach in the future if I did get approved for the other surgeries. -

yeah, i'm still using Protein shakes as my main source of 'food', right now. With the little thing I have going on right now, I have a protein shake for Breakfast. I'll have a low cal/no sugar popsicle (or yogurt smoothie 'shot') for a snack if my stomach hurts. I'm doing creamy Soups for lunch (cream of potato/chicken - removing chunks) another popsicle or smoothie if needed in between lunch & dinner. and a protein shake for dinner. I know I am not getting as much Proteins as they do want, but it is really what works best for me, and gets me through the day. I'm trying to get myself into the system I will be using once I am back on normal foods (minus the in-between snacks). -

Pre-Op Diet: Tips, Tricks, Recipes?
alicesandra replied to Fat_Librarian's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my pre-op diet was very strict. I was on optifast, having 5 shakes & 4 bars a day. There really wasn't much I could do with that - but I made it. I was on mine for 3 weeks, took lots of will power. But I am so happy with the results in the end, now I currently have one week left on my full liquid post-op, but it isn't so bad as I had to do the pre-op one for so long. -
I am fine with milk! (having to use it for cream of soups) I usually drink silk milk though. I haven't really heard of anyone having issues with dairy products, but everyone is different.

alicesandra replied to alicesandra's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only reason I am using slim fast is because it was on my nutritionists recommended list for the full liquid stage. I have since started mixing in some cream of soups, like potato & chicken, as those are surely helping my stomach (plus, nothing but slim fast upsets my stomach). I know they aren't exactly the best choice, but they really do help me in terms of this phase. As for the jello/pudding/mousse & etc, I'm not supposed to have those in any form until soft food stages! -

What Restaurants Accept The Lapband Id Card?
alicesandra replied to radarluv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
^ I usually wouldn't mind either, but my problem is just that no one in my family eats what I do, so I would be stuck with a lot of wasted/left over food that only I would eat. and salad can only last so long without getting rotten. (I always eat chicken salads when going out, my family thinks I am going to turn into a bunny!) -
What Restaurants Accept The Lapband Id Card?
alicesandra replied to radarluv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not sure, but I am really hoping most of the mainstream places accept them. My family enjoys going out to eat once a week, mostly to Applebee's and such, I don't really like their children menu so I am hoping in the future, they will accept it. Even their half size portions are gigantic (and only $1 less than full size, annoying). I'm usually a big chicken salad eater where as the rest of my family isn't, so the food would just go to waste in our fridge.
