Coffee.. I need help :(
alicesandra replied to leighindmv's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon also pointed out the fact that coffee could possibly cause ulcers, but I could still drink it if I wanted to. I've since moved onto tea though, as a replacement for the coffee. -
My periods have (thankfully) been straightening out again. After going a few years of random every two-three months periods, it's now becoming a regular thing. No pain though, which is ok to me.

I've always gone in and out of phases of being hungry, even before I first got my band. Unfortunately, I believe a big part of that stems from the fact that before getting my surgery done I was a massive under-eater, so some days I tend to slip into that mind frame and end up having to force myself to eat something just to get all 3 meals in. My surgeons & doctors believe I'm at the perfect spot for me in terms of fills and what not, and also believe it's more so to do with my mind frame other than being over filled so I know I'm not just crazy thinking that when those days hit me.

I've found any kind of bread to be a problem for me, so I've stayed away from it.

No fill in band - no restrictions on what I can eat
alicesandra replied to ABLOND's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I would stay off any kind of solid foods/etc until your surgeon tells you otherwise. It's the healing phase for a reason, just because you CAN do it currently, does not mean you should. It's very annoying sticking to the 'phases' they want us to go through, but you'll be much happier with yourself when you gradually start re-introducing foods back in the way they want you to. That is assuming your surgeon goes about it that way, as most from what I've gathered do the liquids > mush/soft > slowly going back on solids. -
I tossed my scales out long before my surgery date was set, and have not regretted it at all. I do my weekly weigh ins at my gym, as well as the monthly doctor appointment check up ones. It's made me a much happier person in the long run instead of stressing over possible gains & loses every day.

Swimming after procedure ....
alicesandra replied to tdeizme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As others have said, talk to your surgeon. I had my surgery July 24th (2012), and was allowed to swim as long as I was very careful by mid August. I did use something that floated to help keep myself up right when I was out deeper. -
No Pre-op Diet... Liver too big?
alicesandra replied to CatLady0626's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@Shella: I had a two week diet as well. Nothing but optifast shakes & the bars which I found horrible. -
I had clear liquids for the first two days after my surgery. After that I was on normal liquids/creamy soups for about a week before moving onto the 'mushie' food stage.
-
After a fill, I usually have been told to go 24-48 hours on liquids. And then you will be fine on normal foods again, just be extra careful and find out your limit!

No Pre-op Diet... Liver too big?
alicesandra replied to CatLady0626's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You could always double check and ask your doctor if there is anything he recommended for it pre-surgery, I had a pre-op diet just to be cautious and avoid the possible 'liver too big' situation, but lots of others didn't. -

What Are Some Of The Foods You Can No Longer Eat
alicesandra replied to lafaye999's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have yet to run into any issues, I'm only about to be 6 weeks out, and have been working meats back into my menu over the last two. But yeah, I've pretty much tried everything I used to eat that I can do at this time (everything was healthy, so I had nothing to worry about with re-introducing them!). I have tried a few different breads (well, not white) but normal wheat bread & flat breads and they have gone down just fine. Although I have yet to see if I can still handle them after my first fill, but when that time comes around I shall see. -
Two Bariatric Patients Walk Into A Restaurant
alicesandra replied to Pollyanna12's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
^ same! I wish I had someone near me who I could go out for lunches with to get little advice like that, but anyone I do know that's had the surgery now lives states away. -
Congrats! that is awesome. The liquid diet is hard at first, but once you get used to it, it isn't so bad. And before you know it, it'll be time to switch over to smooth/soft foods!

Congrats & Keep on working!

Hot In Cali When Can I Swim!?
alicesandra replied to sgmommy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was just told today by my surgeon 10 days post op you should be fine. HOWEVER; I really do recommend you give your surgeon a call and ask him. -
If you have a curves around you, I would suggest checking them out. Most of their circuit machines involve strength training

Liver Not Small Enough
alicesandra replied to KristinsMommy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That was one of the things I was absolutely afraid of. I have known a few people who went through the surgery but had that problem, even with following the directions exactly from the surgeon, and couldn't get surgery done. -
mine is more of right below where my 'leaning' place is, thankfully. I'm so glad it isn't where my bra underwire is, that would drive me absolutely insane.
-
If you can get through the first week, the rest of recovery is a breeze. I personally didn't have any issues after I was home from the hospital, but everyone is different. I hope things get better for you, and soon!

For about a week after surgery, I had to give myself Lovenox shots on my 'love handles'. About three-four days into it, I noticed I started to have break outs because of it. Right now I have a red spot on my forehead, my nose is red/bumpy, and a few spots right on/above my right eyebrow. Anyone else have the same side effects/any idea how long these will take to go away? I was done with the shots on the 29th, but the break out spots are still as red/annoying as ever.

Lovenox are shots that patients usually injects themselves, prevents blood clots from forming, I know not all surgeons require it, but mine does for any kind of surgery here.
