Pre-op diet all liquid?
alicesandra replied to loser2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did about three weeks of pre-op diet, but mine was a mixture of shakes & protein bars. Think I had like 5 small shakes & 4 small protein bars per day. -
11 months before and in progress
alicesandra replied to Brandigirl's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
That is awesome, congrats! I have a fitbit as well, unfortunately I'm not allowed to wear it at work so it hasn't been getting much use as of the last month and a half. -
Surgery went well today
alicesandra replied to MamaRita's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats on the surgery! Don't think I used any pain meds at all after mine. -
I usually just do yogurt and feel full until around 1-2 pm, even though I do make myself eat a small lunch even if I'm not hungry, or I'd end up not eating until dinner.

Mine are definitely still there, the little ones are going but they are taking their sweet time fading. Two years out.

Is Lap Band a Cake Walk To Losing Weight?
alicesandra replied to NewMeDebbie's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It definitely is not. I've met quite a lot of people that assume lap band is as easy as getting it done and then you'll magically lose a ton of weight with putting no real effort into it. By completely changing up my eating habits I have managed to lose 152 pounds over the last two years, and I'm 120 from my actual goal weight. A lot lost, a lot more to go. But I'll get there. I'm doing everything I can be doing to reach it. Highest was 445-450, current is 293. Best thing I've ever done to help me get my weight back into control, for sure. -
What Do You Do When a Craving Hits?
alicesandra replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Personally, I don't really 'crave' much. I love what I eat, I always have. And that pretty much consists of yogurt or Protein shakes for Breakfast, salads with some chicken for lunch, and salmon/veggies for dinner. It's easy, simple to make and I can switch veggies up within my dinner & lunch with whatever I have on hand. I don't exclude any foods either, I feel like if I tell myself I absolutely can not have it, that I will want it even more. I allow myself the free will of eating 'badly' if I really want to, and 99% of the time I usually sticking with my healthy meals because of that. The only strict rule I stick by is that I make all my meals myself, so I know exactly what goes into it. No pre-packaged foods. I do enjoy wine often with my best friend, however. -
Do You Think People Treat You Differently Since You've Lost Weight?
alicesandra replied to enjoythetime's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I haven't really noticed a difference in how people treat me. The only big change is me more so being less quiet than I used to around others, I have more confidence with myself. I don't really mention my weight loss to them, they don't really grill/talk to me about it. Although there has been a few times where they have noticed a significant loss before I have and congratulated me on it. I do get asked for recipes a ton as they all know I love cooking and know I make everything I eat, myself. -
I NEED to hear success stiries from long time banders!
alicesandra replied to unsupersizeme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am just about to hit my 2 year mark with the band and I am down 152 pounds. I have had no issues, no complications, nothing of the sort. I did hit a plateau for a while but I made it through. I am now currently at the lowest weight I have been at in maybe 10 or so years, as depressing as that is thinking about my highest weight point. I've come this far, I can definitely push myself to my goal! I wouldn't have been able to do it without this forum being here, it's always nice to be surrounded by people going through the exact same thing as you are. And the success stories are amazing. Before I could barely move around without having joint pains/etc, currently I am going to a gym first thing in the morning/a second gym at night (because addicted)/zumba 3x a week as well as many walks throughout the week. I would go back and do it all over again, much sooner, if I could. -
That is a really cute idea! And congrats on everything you've done thus far~

For those just starting out
alicesandra replied to gowalking's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thankfully I have never ran into a person that had anything bad to say to me about getting my band done, everyone has been as supportive & encouraging as they possibly could be. I hid my scales pre-op, and I haven't looked at them since. I'm a happy lady for doing that. -
Share Your NSVs Here Please!
alicesandra replied to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT!'s topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
NSV for myself: My swimsuit from last year was literally falling off me when I put it on two weeks ago. I had to go out and buy a few new ones. -
Toss the scale out for sure. I had my surgery done two years ago, and I haven't looked at a scale at home since. The only ones I will let myself look at is in the doctors office when I go in for my monthly check ups or other appointments, and when I do my monthly weighing/measuring at my gym. I dropped 30 pounds pre-op, gained 15 post-op and then I started dropping again. You will fluctuate for quite a while after surgery, and again when you start introducing solid foods. Do not panic about it. Just follow what they say, and all will be good.

I have eaten mostly the same exact things since I first got my band. Breakfast: Chobani greek yogurt with pomegranate seeds & granola OR a Protein shake. Lunch: any variety of salad that I feel like tossing together! Dinner: Some kind of meat/fish (mostly salmon) with any mix of veggies I have in my fridge.

Wow that is a lot. I really wish I'd lose as much as some people here have, in as little time, but everyone is different with weight loss speeds. i had my surgery 11 months ago.. ive lost 220lbs.. im at 192 started at 412. about 20lbs per mo average but my results are atypical i believe chris I've lost 137 over the past (almost) two years. I've been told I'm one of the more successful patients they have over at my hospital that I had gotten surgery at. Only.. 150 to go (to reach final goal weight), so much work left to do for myself. I seem lose about 4-8 per month. Sometimes more.

I have a fitbit flex, Love it!
-
I haven't quite decided on what to do for myself in terms of goals. I'm currently 8 pounds away from my first big one, and 150 away from my final weight goal. I mean I get clothes once things are just too loose for me to wear. There really isn't anything else that can bring me as much satisfaction as knowing I've pushed myself to lose as much as I have. Although I have set a mini goal/challenge to see how much I can lose before November, Hawaii trip with family & friends!

Can too much water in a short period of time stretch your pouch?
alicesandra replied to mommyjamie's topic in Food and Nutrition
I've had to be careful when drinking Water, more so first thing in the morning. If I try to chug it all down I will definitely feel it in my stomach, and be in pain shortly after. -
That is an awesome project, I've recently seen one like that at my nieces science fair. Personally, I drink nothing but water/tea/low or no cal flavored water and one cup of coffee a day - little to no creamer. Add in an occasional glass of wine or wine cooler (summer! yay) with the bestie.

Loose skin! Do you have it or no? Is it inevitable?
alicesandra replied to Wendydarling19's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The excess skin is what gets to me most, honestly. I hate it, it makes me even more self conscious than my weight does. I just know I can't do anything about it currently as I'm still 150 pounds away from my final goal weight. -
How did you first learn about weight loss surgery?
alicesandra replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I've always been aware of it, I just didn't start looking into it until after I turned 18. My dad finally brought me an article in one of our towns newspapers about how they were starting to focus on WLS, as he knew I was somewhat interested in looking into it more, so I went to a seminar and ended up getting my band done in July of 2012. -
Tomorrow I will be banded
alicesandra replied to lynz's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats! -
I've never heard of doctors doing that 'filling to capacity and draining as needed' thing, but it's different for everyone. Mine did 2cc out of 14cc to start my band off with, when I got my surgery. I've gotten fills in .5cc intervals when needed. I was absolutely terrified of needles before I got my band in, now it's no big deal.
