Haven't "gone" in 6 days
melodymouse replied to CoreyCan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just posted this in another thread It is a screen shot of what my surgeon sent me a couple if weeks out. Hope it helps! -
I eat at a local Mexican take out that has chicken tacos. I just eat the insides and not the shell. I've thought about El Pollo Loco but haven't tried it yet. I am in So Cal. Hopefully they'll have something similar near you! Good luck!

My hairs falling out :'(
melodymouse replied to newme31's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try Biotin. The RYN ladies in my support group swore by it. My hair loss was mostly just thinning but the Biotin did stop it after about 2 weeks. I got mine from CVS and they are nice, small easy to swallow tabs. Good luck! -

Dizzyness, cold sweats 3 months out
melodymouse replied to MrsGina's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Have you eaten something you shouldn't? Those can also be symptoms of dumping syndrome. That's when you have too much sugar or fat go through your stomach too fast and into your intestines. I had it on Christmas night. I thought I made good choices but because I didn't prepare things, I didn't know how much hidden fat/sugar were in them. It was like a real bad case of food poisoning only without the vomiting. Dizziness, chills, pretty nasty! Hope you feel better! -

Vision has declined since surgery. Anyone else?
melodymouse replied to Jenny12's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine did as well. My Vitamin A level was low. My vision was restored to my pre-surgery sight after boosting that level back up. -

Too much weight loss
melodymouse replied to smithpy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree, listen to your doctor, not your friends or family. My doc told me to stop so I listened. I know someone a few years younger than me who didn't listen and didn't stop. She has clearly gone from obesity to anorexia. So sad! She is one of my motivators to listen to the people who are smarter or at least better educated than me. -
I don't know how far out you are, but I get the Chicken on the Barbie with steamed veggies as my side. They give you 2 breasts. I either take one home or give one to my husband which makes him happy!

Staying regular in first few months?
melodymouse replied to fletcherette's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have suffered from the beginning with constipation. The biggest key is enough Water. My PA just told me at my 1 year check up that it is NORMAL to only go twice a week! I wish I had known that sooner!! She also told me to drink water all evening then take 2 100mg tabs of Ducosate Sodium at bedtime so it stays in your system. She said to use it for as many days as it takes to produce a very loose almost liquid BM to clean yourself out good and then stop. You should start taking it again if each time you haven't had a movement after 4-5 days. It is safe and not habit forming like stimulant types. I attached a screen shot of the laxative progression from my surgeon. As always, When in doubt, check it out with your own doctor to be safe. Hope it helps! -

Not happy today, any suggestions?
melodymouse replied to kari61's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make sure you are eating enough. It is the number one cause of stalls in the first year after WLS or so I was told by my nutritionist. Not getting enough nutrients will put your body into starvation mode. It will produce more Cortisol to slow your metabolism so you won't "waste away"! So you don't lose. Try to up your intake a little. Worked almost every time for me. -
Mine has to be @ 6 months post op and down about 90 lbs. my family was getting ready to go out to dinner and I was dressed in my new size 8 jeans. My daughter's boyfriend (25) said to me "wow! You are getting so skinny!" 5 minutes later my son, (20) walked in to the room. He said in almost a shout, "Holy Crap, Mom! You are soo skinny!!" He had only ever known me as obese. It was truly a wonderful moment!!

Force protein or just get liquid in?
melodymouse replied to Mrs.Ally's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got 50 g from the start. I used Nectar brand mixed in water so I got both at one time. It's a high quality protein with much fewer impurities. Mixing it with water makes it thin and goes down easy. -

Not if you have a strong stomach valve and a weak spot in your staple line. -

Surgery on monday! Any last minute advice?
melodymouse replied to BriDawn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bummer, right?! Aside from the fact that you could swallow it and "gum up the works", it also causes you to swallow air which leads to painful gas and bloating, stimulates the production of Ghrelin that makes you hungry, screws up your blood sugar because even sugar free gum makes your body think its eating sugar so it produces insulin, and causes TMJ. Who knew?! -

I use Premier now. It is my favorite but it was too thick immediately after surgery. I used Nectar powder mixed in water. The milk bothered me at first.
