  1. Got on the scale this morning and hit my 60 lbs mark. Sugery was Aug. 1st. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would be at this point. It's starting to slow just a bit but I'm so content with that now. I can't remember when I was at this weight. Maybe when I got married almost 30 years ago. This has been the best decision I've ever made! It's been alot of hard work but boy oh boy has it paid off. I work in 10 lb increments and that seems to be a very manageable way of looking at it. Watch out 70 lbs, here I come!!!

    Hit 60 lbs today!

    I started at 273.7
  3. I am now 3 months post op and down 51 pounds. It has been such an amazing journey. Reading posts here before and after my surgery have been so helpful. I have enjoyed reading everyone's accomplishments and joys from having this surgery. People that were rolling their eyes and wondering what the hell I was doing to my body are now shaking their heads saying damn girl, this really is working. DUH!!! I told you. I'm off all my diabetes meds and the numbers for my sugars are normal without using anything. My main purpose for doing the surgery. The weight came second, but sure is an incredible plus. This surgery isn't a fixall for everyone's problem. It is a tool. If you use it to it's fullest capabilities, it will reward you. It still is alot of hard work, but so definately worth it. Can't wait to see what the next 50 lbs will bring. Good luck everyone with your adventure, work hard at it, it's worth it!!!
  4. This is strickly your decision. It's your life and your body. I had my sceptics also. Mostly the people closest to me which surprised me then. But now that its over it was because they werent as educated as I was about the surgery and they were just worried. Now they see the results happening and how well its working for me they are supportive. I just figured if it worked well for me then thats great, but if it didn't i'd be the one paying the price for the wrong decision. There are too many people that this surgery has worked wonderfully for. It is just a tool and the results you get from it will depend on what you put into it. It wont work great all on its own. Watch what you eat, exercise and keep track of your food intake and it will work. Be true to yourself and your decisions, you are the only one whether good or bad that it will effect. I wish you all the luck!!
  5. Can anyone share with me their average calorie/protein intake for their day. I'm not quite sure where I need to be at now that I'm eating soft foods. 6 weeks out, 33 lbs down, never lost that kind of weight before. I couldn't be more proud of myself, I feel amazing.

    Calorie/protein Intake?

    Thanks so much!!!
  7. I was sleeved Aug 1st and I completely understand your frustrations. The first 2 weeks for me were the hardest. I take a chewable childrens vitamin 4 times a day, just the costco brand, and also the calcium i buy from costco also. It's the kirkland brand and they are sugar free and taste great. They are a chocolate chewable one, makes you feel like your having candy. I'm suppose to take 3500 mg a day, which are 7 chewables. I havent had any problems with those upsetting my stomach. I actually look forward to taking them because they taste so good. The growling of your tummy sounds normal. I had the same feelings. I've had to be on a clear liquid diet and protein shakes for 4 weeks. Just started pureed foods. I can't tell you how good pureed food tastes. Never thought I'd ever say that. I would take my protein shakes (which I also get at costo, Premier shakes) 30g of protein and only 1g of sugar, I would blend the shake in my magic bullet blender with some ice and it makes it a little thicker, like a smoothie, seemed more satisfying to me and filled me up. In the morning I'd add some decaf coffee to the chocolate ones and it tasted like a blended coffee. Things do get better believe me. I'm so proud of myself for enduring this process. I never thought I could do this for as long as I have. But there is a reason for it and it really does help when you finally try some food, blended or not, its amazing how full you get so quickly. If you have any more questions I'd be happy to help if I can. I'm only 4 weeks out myself and don't have alot of experience but I'm learning as is everyone, along the way. Take care and good luck on your new journey, it's definately going to be worth it!!

    Pureed Stage

Yes they should be ok at first. I'm trying to promise myself to stay away from carbs as much as possible, but starting out on purees i'm not being too fussy about it. All the best to you!

    Pureed Stage

I'm 4 weeks post op and just started pureed foods. I made some homemade navy bean soup with ham yesterday and pureed it in my magic bullet. It tasted great! Altho I couldn't eat too much of it, it was very satisfying. Any soup you like is great blended up. Refried beans with cheese, tuna fish with a little light mayo and relish, egg salad is good also. There is a fluff recipe i have and made last night that is great also. Take one packet of SF jello and disolve it in 1/2 the water it states on the package. Then wisk in about 3/4 cp of greek yogart and 1 scoop of vanilla protein powder. Let sit in the fridge til jello is not quite set then take a hand mixer to it and whip it for about 5 minutes. Let finish setting in fridge. It was a great change of pace from plain jello or popcicles. There is a great soup in the deli at Safeway. Baked potatoe soup. Blend that up and it tastes yummy. Probably not the best idea when you can eat more but for the quantity you can have it tastes great and is extremely satisfying. Good luck to you!!
  10. Good choice with Premier, to me they are the best tasting ones out there. I blend mine in a magic bullet blender with some ice and sometimes a little sugar free jam to change it up a little. Makes it taste like a smoothie. I'm almost 3 weeks out now and have had good luck getting my protein in that way. Good luck to you!!

The Subject Of Food And Meals

I'm 2 weeks post op also, but my Dr. has me on a strick diet still of 3 protein shakes a day and just clear liquids. Can't even have pureed foods for 2 more weeks. A tip for getting your liquids in which has worked for me. I have a container which is 32 oz. I mix crystal light lemon flavored iced tea in it. Then I slice lemons and limes in it, and buy a can of no sugar added fruit cocktail and put half of that with the juice in it. Very refreshing in the heat and I seem to be able to get that all down instead of the water. I wish you luck on your journey!!
  12. My surgery was Aug 1, 2012. I sure hope to have the success you have just shared with all of us this time next year. It's alot of hard work, but i know I'll get out of it what I put in. Congratulations.

What Are Some Good Protein Drinks?

I've been using the Premier shakes from costco.. They come in vanilla and chocolate. I'm 4 days post op now and can't start drinking them again til wednesday. Looking forward to that. Before I would add some sugar free smuckers jam to it which was a nice change of pace. They have only 1g of sugar and 30g of protein.

    Early Soft Foods

ok people, arent we adults here. Please stop arguing and acting so petty with the comments. Each person is an individual and will do or not do what they are told. Ultimately they are the ones paying the consequences for their actions. I'm 4 days post op and have loved this sight until reading this thread. I think I'll stick with the love and support of my own family and friends. Let's just all relax and do the best we can!!
  17. Thanks so much my friend, I'm so ready for this new journey and I wish you all the best of luck. We'll get through this together!!!

  20. Got out of the house and went to my daughters boyfriends baseball tournament. That helped alot. Altho on the way home I had a huge craving for a hamburger, but i fought the feeling and came home and had a Protein shake instead lol why blow it a couple days before surgery. Take care and keep me updated on your surgery.
  21. Chehalis is about an hour south of me. Once I make it through the weekend I think I'm home free. Hard to keep my mind off food on the weekend, it's what we use to do. But so far so good. Having a protein shake now and then I think I'll go take a walk with the dog and hubby. Good luck to you also, it's gonna be sooooooo worth it!!!
  22. My surgary date is August 1st. On day 6 of clear liquid diet. It's tough no doubt, but I'm a stubborn, bullheaded Irish woman and this will not defeat me, I will defeat it and become healthier for it. Let's do this everyone!!!!!
  23. My surgeon for my sleeve is Dr. Srikanth in Federal Way at St. Frances hospital. He also does the tummy tuck and from what I hear very good. I have my surgery Aug 1st and I know if I need the tummy tuck I would go back to him. Good Luck!
