    Sleeve criteria BMI>50

Hello Everyone I am new here and this is my first post. I have only realized recently that I need major help to loose the wieght. I have been looking into bariatric surgery and have decided the sleeve is right for me for many of the same reasons many of you have. I work for a internationaly well known "Clinic". They have their own insurance company for their employees. It is pretty good and does cover bariatric surgery as long as it is done at any of the "clinics" campuses. However I just got off the phone with them and I was told that they have the usual criteria for open and laproscopic bypass and gastric banding (bmi >40 or >35 with comorbidities). But surgeries will only be covered on a case by case basis for duodenal switch and Gastric Sleeve with a bmi >50. I have a bmi of 47-48. I would have to gain at least 20lbs to have a bmi>50. That doesn't make sense. I am trying to loose weight here! I plan to go ahead and try for the sleeve and put in an appeal right off the bat. Does any one have any advice or know where i can find the research that proves the sleeve is just as effective and safer than bypass or banding? Thanks
  2. Actually Fleets enemas can and are sometimes taken orally. Not often as there are other oral products without the stigma that can do the same thing.

I am a RN in a GI Lab. Usually in the US patients will be sedated during EGDs. The most common form of medications are Versed (the sedative to put you to sleep, also has an amnesic effect so you don't remember)and Demerol or Fentanyl (pain meds to keep you comfortable and keep you asleep). Some places also spray the back of your throat with a numbing spray. Some places may use Propofol as their sedation of choice (Yes the Michael Jackson drug). It all depends on the Docs preference. As a nurse who has assisted with endoscopies you should know that most people do not remember anything about the proceedure. You should do fine even if you have a bad gag reflex.

    How Long Does it Last?

    Have you tried liquid multivitamins?
  6. Hello All I have recently come to the conclusion that I need to do something drastic to loose the wieght I have been loosing and regaining (more) all my life. I have done calorie counting, portion control, nutrasystem, metabolic research, jillian michaels biggest looser etc. Some work and I am able to loose some wieght but it always comes back with more. Right now I am at my heaviest 335lbs. I have been researching bariatric surgery and have decided the sleeve is right for me. I do not like the idea of re-routing my guts with the long term implications that brings. I also don't like the idea of having a appliance in my body that can cause problems in the future. I really like the safety and efficacy of the sleeve. I am lucky in that my insurance will pay for certain bariatric surgeries as long as it is done at the internationally renowned "Clinic" that I also work for. But it is not all good. See my post under insurance issues on that. All in all I am happy to find this board and look forward to learning more from everyone here. Thanks

    Introduction

thanks again Ms daisy My wife is a Filipina and I got the nickname from a Fil-Am forum a long time ago. I was having a spirited disagreement with another poster and he called me "maldito" My wife says it means stubborn, naughty, rude, crude, jerk, and sometimes bad ass. I liked the sound of it even though I don't consider myself any type ob BA, however I can sometimes be the rest of it

    Why not caffeine?

Ms Susan I am not sure of the hot chocolate recipe you are using but if it is a powder try this. make a slurry of the powder by adding 1-2 tblsp of cold Water to the powder first to make a paste. Then add the hot water. That should eliminate the lumps. BTW where can I find this recipe. I am coffee drinker and drink way too much. I will need to cut down on it for awhile and this sounds like a good substitute if it is no sugar and low fat. Thanks
