Excellent! I wish I had made this decision at your age, and not waited until I was 51!

Complications and struggling
Lori21769 replied to Sassie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stay strong Sassie! I had complications after surgery (vomiting blood, chest pain, etc.) and ended up staying in the hospital for 5 nights. Once you are over this hurdle, you will be glad you did this! -
sleeved on May 11th-issues with protein
Lori21769 replied to Mommydog14's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I LOVE the BSN Protein powders. You can order at www.Netrition.com. They are called Lean Desserts and come in flavors like; chocolate coconut candy bar, banana cream pie, banana nut bread. They dissolve well in water and two scoops with 8 oz of water is 42 gms of protein. I also like the BE caramel latte and cinnamon cappaccino protein powders that you mix with coffee. You can order those from www.bariatriceating.com. One scoop in coffee gives you 35 gms of protein. -
The Inevitable "I'm Not Losing Fast Enough" Thread
Lori21769 replied to ouroborous's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
:001_unsure:I can totally relate. I look at all these people and how fast they are losing, and I feel like I am doing something wrong. I was sleeved on April 8 and I have only lost 27 lbs. My doctor is "delighted" and I was... until I started reading all these posts. I'm pushing protein like crazy, getting 50-100 gms a day. Getting all my water in most days, and walking 2-3 times a day. -
Constipation?
Lori21769 replied to shezaditz@bellsouth.net's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It took me 5 days for a BM. I used to be regular, but now sometimes I skip a day. -
I've been reading this forum for a couple of weeks and decided to register today. There is a lot of good information here, but some of it scares the daylights out of me! :omg: It was recently recommended by my Endocrinologist that I consider this surgery as my diabetes has progressed rather rapidly. Those of you who are diabetic and on insulin know the weight-gain that accompanies insulin. I am at my heaviest ever, and I know that losing weight is the only way to reverse the path I am on. The more I read about side-effects, the more leery I become about trying this technique. I have a delicate GI system to begin with, and don't want to spend the rest of my life vomiting or in pain.:sick What is PBing? I cannot seem to figure that one out.:cry Anyway... does anyone regret getting banded? Do most people have problems? Can you live a normal life after?

To band, or not to band....
Lori21769 replied to Lori21769's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I called... and they don't cover the procedure at all. I'm totally bummed. -
I called UHC today to ask about lap band coverage, and they said they do not cover it at all! Has anyone ever appealed something like this with their insurance... and won?

Do I really have to do the supervised weight loss if I have diabetes, hypertension, and mild sleep apnea? -
To band, or not to band....
Lori21769 replied to Lori21769's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I really appreciate the responses. I am feeling a little more hopeful. I will continue to read here, and attend the seminar that was recommended by my doctor. I am hoping my insurance (UHC) will not make me wait once I make the decision. I need a BIG shot of courage!
