Lori21769 replied to mommytoethan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had popcorn for the first time this afternoon, and I am almost 11 weeks out. No problems going down. It was a nice treat. -
Does Gastric Sleeve Surgery "cure" diabetes?
Lori21769 replied to MINI-Me's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm pretty pumped about it! -
My insurance won't even consider someone for any bariatric surgery that is not at least 35 bmi.

VSG colonoscopy question
Lori21769 replied to possumtrot's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am also curious about the pre-colonoscopy prep. We can't exactly hold the amount of liquid average people can .... I have been avoiding making my appt. for the colonoscopy in fear they will still expect me to drink a couple liters of stuff. -
Does Gastric Sleeve Surgery "cure" diabetes?
Lori21769 replied to MINI-Me's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am an insulin dependent diabetic. Pre-surgery I was taking 4 shots a day. 3 short-acting with meals, and 1 long-acting at bedtime. Since week two post-op, I have had NO short-acting insulin, and reduced my one shot at night by 75%. I expect soon to be off insulin completely. -
my dr. has only done 6 sleeves...is that a concern??
Lori21769 replied to NY Lou's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was number 7 for my surgeon. He had done hundreds of bands and bypasses, but only 6 sleeves. I was the first at the local hospital to have a sleeve. I think I got far more attention and better care as a result- since everyone was learning and paying a LOT of attention. -
my one and only fear/question re sleeve...hi, im new here.
Lori21769 replied to NY Lou's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I go out to eat with friends and family, I just eat very slowly, chew very deliberately, and participate in more conversations. I always end up taking food home. I don't think anyone cares how much you are eating- just that you are there, socializing. No worries! -
OK, it happened.......I had my first pity party

It seems like about every 2 hours I am hungry.
Lori21769 replied to escapesunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I, too eat every 2-3 hours. I feel... empty. My surgeon and nutritionist said that was fine as long as I was getting high protein, low fat and carbs. Adding Special K protein water to my liquids helps me feel full longer. I have been on Prilosec since a month before surgery. -
Extreme weakness post-op
Lori21769 replied to Georgia's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was very weak for the first 3 weeks until I was able to find a protein powder that I liked and get enough protein. That made all the difference. I highly recommend BSN Lean Desserts. They come in wonderful flavors, and two scoops with water gives you 42 gms of protein. -
I'm in Frederick, MD. Sleeved April 8, 2010, down 35 lbs. I have hit a stall- trying to work through it.
-
My surgeon told me to expect a weight gain of 10-20% once I hit my lowest weight. He said the body will adjust up to where it feels healthy/normal.
-
OK, I can't stand Isopure, any other ideas

BSN Lean Desserts! -
I guess all surgeons have slightly different guidelines. I was put on solids 3 weeks out, and eating a greek yogurt takes me 10 minutes. A typical meal (3-4 oz of protein, veg, and carb) takes me about 10-15 minutes to eat. I'm lucky I don't have acid reflux. What are the "slimies?"
-
My legs... and so many other areas... really look like lumpy gravy! Never have I had such cellulite. Its pretty disgusting.

I didn't sleep well for the first couple of weeks, despite my sleep meds. I felt like I had to sit up, or get up and have something to eat or drink. I was totally miserable. It does pass as you heal. I now sleep just fine. Naps were very helpful. I take Prilosec for the acid, and it works well. You may want to add some Tums after your last meal in addition to your acid med.

I'm two months out and at a stall. A little discouraging.
-
I could drink coffee after the third day. No problem. I think at two months out, I am eating too much food. I can eat half a restaurant sized salad at a sitting. My meals are small, but frequent. The only problem food for me are triscuits. I feel like I have a sleeve full of barbed wire when I eat them- so not worth it. I eat a lot of sugar-free popsicles at night.

I was not able to go back to my desk job for three weeks- and even then I thought that was too soon, as I was terribly weak. -

Post Op Clears to full liquids
Lori21769 replied to Dalisgirl's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I had clears for 3 days, full liquids for a week, then mushies - my favorite being meatloaf, mashed potatoes and peas in the food processor. The best meal I ever ate! -
