I was sleeved April 8. I am down 51 lbs. I was taken off all insulin at 12 weeks!! I had been on 4 shots a day for 10 years. This tool is a good thing. It takes some learing and adjusting on a daily basis- but I am very glad I have it!

Does Gastric Sleeve Surgery "cure" diabetes?
Lori21769 replied to MINI-Me's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I am off all insulin as of week 14. -
In the past two weeks I have noticed my hair coming out. I put some mousse in my hair- and my hands come out covered with it. I have very fine, thin hair so it is really noticeable. I hope I don't have to resort to a wig. It is TOO hot this summer for that.

need ideas for mushies...
Lori21769 replied to nurse_ally's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My favorite mushy was meatloaf, peas, and mashed potatoes that I pureed in the food processor! If you can puree it, you can eat it. -
Pardon my ignorance, but why is it that we are supposed to avoid soda? I am not a soda drinker per se, but once a month or so, I enjoy a can of ginger ale. Pre-surgery I had decided on bypass, but changed my mind a couple weeks prior to surgery. All my nutritional instruction was based on bypass surgery and I understand why soda would not be a good idea for a bypass. Can someone enlighten me please?

Very disappointing Surgeon Check-up
Lori21769 replied to tbarnes18's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
texashopeful- be patient. You have done great with your loss of 35 lbs in such a short amount of time. I had a 3 week stall about 5-6 weeks out. Your body is still healing. Give it time, and you will soon see some good drops every week! As long as you are getting your protein and water- it will be great. I am 12 weeks out, and 50 lbs down. I am very happy with that loss. I still have 80-90 to go! -
Soda's...what is the deal?
Lori21769 replied to Lori21769's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Diet ginger ale has no sugar or caffeine... so I am going to give it a shot. It has nothing to do with hydration, as I have always been a water drinker. I don't drink alcohol, so sometimes to be sociable with my friends that drink, I like a ginger ale. Are there any other reasons not to try one? -
Do you feel irritable, weak, and unable to concentrate at first?
Lori21769 replied to BlackBerryJuice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, yes, and yes. As soon as I was able to get the right amount of protein- I quickly turned the corner though. -
Leaks - when can you breathe a sigh of relief?
Lori21769 replied to momof3girls's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon told me at 10 days out, there were no leak worries. -
I started taking pain pills and other medications the day after surgery while still in the hospital- and they were HUGE pills, and the doctor approved them. I would not worry about leaking from swallowing a pill.

:001_unsure: Eleven weeks after my sleeve, and I have been taken off all insulin! After 10+ years of 4 shots a day... I find that amazing.

Seriously, if you can't make it through the food stages, I worry about whether you will be able to use this tool correctly.

Down 40 pounds, and no one noticed today:)
Lori21769 replied to lavonwarrior's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I can relate. I have lost over 40 lbs and no one has said anything- except for people who know I had the surgery. I get a little depressed about that. -
Awesome and very encouraging! Great job!

What are your slider- and non slider- foods?
Lori21769 replied to JillianMarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Strange how our tastes change after surgery. Before surgery I only drank water... for 51 years. After surgery- I cannot stand plain water. I have to add crystal light or special k protein mix. This is a side effect I wish had not happened. I used to easily drink 64 oz of plain water before surgery. -
What does it feel like when they pull out the drain and the catheter?
Lori21769 replied to pistolpete's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had a drain or a catheter. -
What are your slider- and non slider- foods?
Lori21769 replied to JillianMarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been eating regular veggies since week 4. No problems at all. I eat steamed broccoli several times a week. Also in week 4 my surgeon added salads. I really love my raw veg, and salads keep me satisfied. -
I have a 40, and that is all my surgeon uses. He said the difference between a 36 or 38 was so minimal, he didn't want to risk too much restriction. I can eat more than 3 oz. too... I read the amounts some people are eating and am shocked. I can eat 5 oz of meat and a small amount of veg for dinner with no problem. I do feel full at that point, but not stuffed.

very disappointed in this site
Lori21769 replied to mp8btpc's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I am sorry for your bad experience. I, too, basically only read threads with titles that grab me. There are just too many to read them all. I had an abnormal experience with surgery- so I tend to look for other threads that appear with titles that indicated people who had issues. -
ate mushy day 14 having pain
Lori21769 replied to delawaregal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor put me on cream of wheat the second week after surgery. Is it pain, or discomfort? Call your doctor to be sure. -
I spent my first five days after surgery in the hospital with constant vomiting (from morphine, it turns out). I was worried when I started vomiting (blood) as soon as I left the recovery room- but I was fine, and nothing bad happened to my sleeve.

question for other sleevers about self image
Lori21769 replied to noname's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have never in my life been thin, so my head is really struggling with the mirror. I have not set a goal weight yet, and none has been set for me. So far, I have lost 45 lbs, and I am not seeing a difference. I'm tall, so maybe it will take longer for it to show. Well- actually the difference I am seeing is not pretty. Celulite like I have never seen before on my thighs... ICK. I hope that gets better.
