Dealing with family
Lori21769 replied to Lori21769's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm happy to report my husband solved this problem for me. Upon arrival at my parents house, he simply said, "doesn't my skinny wife look fabulous?" They had to say something! LOL. Case closed. Thanks for the input! -
Stop victimizing yourself. I have gone back and read so many of your posts, and it is very sad to see what you are doing. Is it simply to get attention that you are not getting at home? Seriously seek out some counseling. Your children deserve a healthier mother.

I had chronic daily diarrhea for about the first 3-4 weeks after surgery- then it just stopped.

How long did you stay in the hospital?
Lori21769 replied to Dave_NW's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in 5 days, and saw my surgeon two weeks after the surgery. -
I was sleeved April 8 and am down 65 lbs. Feels good, but coming off slower now. I have a LOT of hair loss, had to cut my hair very short and now do a "comb over." I am hoping new hair comes in soon! I have been off all insulin and high BP meds since week 12.

Changing Tastes: What were the big surprises for you?
Lori21769 replied to NLWC.Christa's topic in Food and Nutrition
I drank only water my entire life, and after surgery I could not drink plain water at all. Its been 5 months and I still have to flavor it with crystal light or make iced green tea to get my fluids in. -
Update on Surgery against my Will
Lori21769 replied to Carrie's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You signed a consent form for surgery and anesthesia. You were probably given some drug before you were even taken to the surgical suite? I am guessing you will not be able to prosecute based on your signed consent, and the fact that you may not have been in your "right mind" by the time you were in the surgical suite. Making a complaint is definitely your right, but I am not sure you are going to get any $$$ out of this situation. Please see someone about your anger and the trauma though. It isn't healthy for you. -
Something I never thought I'd have to cope with...
Lori21769 replied to WildIris's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
thinoneday- you sound really bitter. I'm sorry you feel that way, because it really will hold you back personally and waste your time. I have posted before, I am not attracted to obese men, or short men, or men with bad teeth... it is all about what you are attracted to. You cannot fault a man for having preferences. Chemistry can't be manufactured- you are either attracted to a type, or you aren't. -

We are most attractive to others, when we find ourselves attractive. What we feel about ourselves we project. Enjoy the flirting. -

Coffee and Alcohol?
Lori21769 replied to Estrellita's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was given coffee in the hospital on day 2. I have had my usual mug of coffee every day since, with no problem. I did wait a couple months for alcohol. -
I'm pre-op and the negative comments worry me!
Lori21769 replied to sweetlover's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I may not be the norm... but I can eat two pieces of pizza, I can eat a decent portion of a meal (half of what I consumed pre-surgery) and I am sure Christmas dinner or Thanksgiving dinner will not be a problem. Much smaller amounts, but you can spread those meals into several small meals and get all the things you like to eat. -
inconsistent weight loss ... anyone else? (again)
Lori21769 replied to coops's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been losing off and on from date of surgery. I try not to weigh often- like every two weeks. It is still frustrating to weight at two week intervals and find a lb or 2 gone... but I am sure my body is adjusting to everything still. I could drink more water, and I could do more cardio... so perhaps that is the answer. -
When will my hair stop falling out??
Lori21769 replied to greeneyes's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My hair has been falling out for over a month or so. I had it cut shorter than it already was, and went wig shopping just in case. I didn't buy one, but I know where to get one, and what style I want. The top of my head is showing through my thin hair. My hairdresser will not color it while it is so fragile, and has told me not to use appliances like blow dryers, curling/flat irons. It is a mess. -
I make sure I get plenty of fiber, but there are still days that nothing happens. That has never happened to me in my life. I mix Fiber One with my greek yogurt for breakfast and that helps!

I'm guessing your husband just needs to feel needed. You are a strong, independent woman and he knows you are fully capable of living alone. Maybe he is even feeling a little threatened by your new desireability and wants to make sure you have no reason to wander?

What Happens When We Take a Pill?
Lori21769 replied to FreeToBeMe's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon only has me on a multi-vitamin and prescription D. He hasn't done blood work since surgery. Do I need sublingual B-12? I know it was in the list for RNY patients, but not sleeve. -
Pills all day - sick of it already!
Lori21769 replied to BlackBerryJuice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started swallowing large pills while still in the hospital. They gave me pain meds (vicadin) by mouth on day 3. I have taken whole pills ever since with no issues. -
Sounds like a parasitic relationship, and it is time for you to cut her loose. She will never be a friend, she doesn't sound like she knows how to be. Do another positive thing for yourself and refuse to let negative people be in your life.

Does Gastric Sleeve Surgery "cure" diabetes?
Lori21769 replied to MINI-Me's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I have been a type II diabetic for about 15 years. The last ten years I have been dependent on 4 shots of insulin per day. At week 12, I was taken off all insulin and put on a pill. Now that is progress! Clarification: You can be type II AND insulin dependent. -
I think it is unfair not to give someone a chance when you get thin. When I was single, I would not date fat men. I just didn't find them attractive. I dated a lot- but never anyone fat. It is like not wanting to date someone shorter, or bald, or of a different race. It is all about what you find attractive. I cannot fault a man that is not attracted to my body. I do the same thing.

I have an occassional diet ginger ale with no side effects other than feeling full, and of course, burping. I am 4 months out.

I'd argue that you are not the same person. As you lose the weight, you project more confidence, happiness and probably are more out-going. I know people respond to that energy. Whenever we feel good about ourselves, others feel good about us too.

How bad are your scar's?
Lori21769 replied to christina@MIA's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had 6 incision holes. 3 have disappeared almost completely, and the other 3 are fading pretty quickly at 4 months out. -
I read that eucalyptus oil stimulates hair growth. I am going to try that next. Buy it at your local health food store, apply it at night to you scalp before bed.
