Anyone have surgery at Hurley in Flint, MI?
Lori21769 replied to mslis48451's topic in Weight Loss Surgeons & Hospitals
Hurley is an excellent facility! I didn't have sleeve surgery there, but have had other surgery. My mother taught nursing at Hurley for many, many years. You will have good care there. -
What are you doing with all the time you are spending NOT eating now? I have become addicted to Farmville and FarmTown as a result of the "spare" time. What are you doing?

What is WRONG WITH ME???
Lori21769 replied to sleeve 4 me's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Make your favorite meal, and then put it in the food processor. I made meatloaf, mashed potatoes and peas, then pureed it and it was the best meal I had ever eaten! -
When ere u able to eat a salad? Is anyone able to have a bite of a sub or pita?
Lori21769 replied to selvester420's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doctor allowed salads at 4 weeks. I still have some trouble digesting them and i am almost 6 months out. They seem to come out looking the same as they went in! -

Lori21769 replied to JillianMarie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have been able to eat half a sub since about 3 months out. I can eat two slices of pizza. I have always been able to eat more than Tiff, and some of the others on here. I am losing, and not unhappy with my progress at all. I am eating less than half of what I ate pre-surgery, and that is good enough. -
now there's a side-effect I didn't expect!!

Wow! I am almost 6 months out, and have not had this side effect at all! -
weight loss promotes travel : )

I find I am doing a lot more traveling now that it is more comfortable for me, and people aren't staring at me as much! -

did I make the right decision?
Lori21769 replied to michiganmamma's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have over 100 lbs to lose. So far I have lost 68lbs, and still losing. I totally love my sleeve. RNY lose faster, but I'm not in a race, and I didn't want to have "dumping syndrome." I think the sleeve is far less invasive- and if the tool is used properly you should lose what you want. -
Getting Sleeved 9/21 - Dr. Denis Halmi - Potomac Hospital in Woodbridge!!

All I needed were some clothes to wear home! The hospital supplied everything else, including toothbrush, deodorant, shampoo, etc. -

Lori21769 replied to anninva's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I used Dr. Steven McKenna in Maryland. He works out of Shady Grove, Holy Cross, and Frederick Memorial. I would highly recommend him. -
mommyof4- are you tall by any chance?
-
I'm a classic hourglass and almost 6' tall. It is hard to find curvy, tall clothing! I started out in a 26W and am now in a 20W. I cannot wait to be in 18 or smaller... I have not been that size since... grade school!

Im getting scared!!!
Lori21769 replied to sleeveorbust's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had surgery before my VSG. I didn't have a catheter or a drain tube. Just an IV. I received really good care, and cannot complain at all about my time in the hospital. -
I need a smoke!
Lori21769 replied to luvinitcuzican's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I smoked up until the day before surgery. I should have quit prior. I ended up being in the hospital for 5 days with no nicotine, and that was pretty miserable. -
Dense foods- no. Sliders, of course. I stopped using protein supplements completely a couple of months ago, and I am able to get 60+ grams a day from my diet. Once in a while, if I am in a rush I will grab a high protein bar for a meal replacement- but that is rare.

I am going on vacation in a few days, and will be staying with my parents. I only get to see them once or twice a year, so I am looking forward to it. In the past however, when I have lost weight- they have not commented on it. It is as if they didn't even notice once when I lost 70 lbs! That is really disheartening and discouraging. Yesterday I posted my 4 month pictures on my Facebook page, and my sister made a comment. She said, "I see you have rearranged the furniture again." Not one word about how I look!!!! I am wondering if I should make some sort of statement when I arrive at my parents house- either asking them to acknowledge my loss, or give me a word of encouragement so i don't stew over it for my entire ten days? I talk to my mother twice a week on the phone, and she never, ever asks about my weightloss. I sometimes will tell her how many lbs. I am down- and she barely responds. Usually, its something like, "um, hmm." Suggestions? I hate that their approval means so much to me, but they are my family....sigh.

Are you getting a minimum of 60 grams of protein per day? That is the only thing that saved me from feeling like I was just barely existing for the first three weeks or so.

Infected scar?
Lori21769 replied to BlackBerryJuice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had just the tip of a suture sticking out, and I was able to actually squeeze it out after a couple of weeks of irritation. Have your surgeon take a look next time. Mine had to cut off two sutures that were poking through.
