    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

Umm why...they make you chase a ball and kick girls .
  2. Mishy, youll grow stronger as time passes. Just remember the important stuff (family and friends) and don't jeopardize your time with them! You did this to win and you can do it!
  3. I have a friend who ate a Keebler type chocolate chip cookie ten days after surgery and ended up in hospital for two weeks. So I'd not say I'm being an alarmist at all. Her story will keep me on the straight and narrow believe me! We all heal differently. What might be fine for one may be dangerous for another which is why following the post op diet is so important. Unless you have previously had the majority of an organ removed, you don't know our healing rate and to push it or encourage that is not responsible.
  4. I'm actually not telling my six year old. I will tell him mommy has an owwie (how the heck do you spell that lol) in her tummy and the doctor has to fix it and that he has to be careful not to jump on mommy etc til it's all better. He's too young to understand and he's spent a couple of years in hospital so anything associated with hospital freaks him out. Will I tell him later in life? Maybe, but maybe not. This isn't his journey (IMO) it's entirely mine and unless he has weight issues as an adult I don't see it being necessary. Just my opinion of course. We all see things differently. That said if he was a teen I'd definitely tell him. The only person outside of my mom and husband I am telling is his nanny because she lives with us and I will need her help after surgery more than usual. It would be hard to hide it from a close family member (someone in the house) and you might worry them with your odd behavior if you don't tell them. That said, given the autistic older child.....only YOU know what they can handle or would notice. My son has special needs as well and no one but those who are closest to them know where their mind is (I hope I said that in a way that makes sense to you!). Best of luck on your journey!
  5. I'd have to second the above post. I mean really....is there any cake worth literally dying for? I have a family and eating cake that soon after surgery could literally take you from them. I'd call your doctor immediately and get yourself some counseling pronto before you do serious damage to your stomach.
  6. I spent two years in hospital with my son so I'm a pro at this lol...which is why I'm outpatient! I hate hospitals! But I do always bring an extension cord as well as a plug in night light and music I enjoy as background. I find the noise of hospitals difficult to sleep with so I have my babies night time music play all night (which is probably goofy lol). I always have a picture of my family for the bedside table and I bring a favorite glass or mug since plastic and the like gross me out. On long stays the parents also typically brought wine with them (what happens in the parents lounge stays in the parents lounge) but given we are all the patients, that's probably not a good idea lol. I'm bringing a spousal unit (my hubby....not joe) to take care of me in the hotel. That beats the hell out of some big nurse who needs to take your Bp every four hours wether you need it or not cuz she has a shift change (they can't leave without making sure their patients aren't dead).
  7. I like the three months answer lol. I wonder what my doc will say? We collect wine and I must admit I enjoy it....especially tastings and I have been worried I'd never get to see it again. I actually chose the sleeve because you can eventually drink where as with a gb it's a huge challenge. Friends of ours just had the bypass and while she is doing fab (down 100 in six months) she is very disappointed she cANt really enjoy wine anymore and likely never will due to dumping.

    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

I expect to be joining the thread but won't know until the 23rd. I'm beyond excited to start this part of my new life. I've spent the day shopping for (ok but not buying) couture vintage. I used to wear a lot of it and can't wait to get back to my cool wardrobe . Q of the day answer....walking, mostly on the beach (great exercise). I never did run because even at a size two many many many moons ago I had 36dd's and if you run with those jugs you're likely to put an eye out! The only time I ever run is for a good sale . I have a vintage Mary McFadden couture suit hanging on a maniquin I set up in my room when I made my first appt. shes a size 8. I'm hoping to wear it before Christmas then grow...wait, shrink out of it!!!!!
  9. I all! I've learned a lot reading through the threads but wanted to ask those with lower bmi's some specific questions if I could . My bmi is 36 and I have no co probs. I'm told that the process can be streamlined for "healthy" lol fat people (now that does sound silly huh?). I'm wondering if you'd care to share what tests you had to do ahead of time, what was your pre surgery diet and quicky...start to finish how long from the first appt to surgery. In addition if you'd share how it's been going for you since surgery I'd love to hear it! I've struggled with the same 50 to 60 lbs most of the last 20 years and don't want to end up like most of my family is....overweight with associated complications (mostly diabetics). I'm 49 with a six year old and want to keep up with him for many years! I'm self pay (I don't even want to fuss with trying for the insurance because it will just delay things before they say no lol). I'll have my first appt with dr billing on the 23 and I'm so excited about moving on with my life in the right way!

    Low Bmi Specific Questions

Wow fox! Can I be you lol. All of this lack of crazy tests makes me want to go to Mexico lol but I'll see what they say on the 23rd. My advocate thinks August will happen so I hope she's right.

    Seattle, Washington anyone?

I have been away for a bit (no 3G in neath bay lol) so I just saw this. Does everyone have to go through that test? It's almost a deal killer for me as my infant was nearly killed doing it. I don't have sleep apnea...maybe my husband can attest lol.

    Seattle, Washington anyone?

I'll get my date after my appt on the 23(I think) if I am all clear of worries. I don't have any co problems so I'm hoping for smooth sailing. I'm taking my six year old to Disney on the 6th and then he starts school on the 15th so my hope is soon after that. How long did it take from first appt to your surgery? Kairn (patient adv) felt pretty comfy that my timing will work well. I'm trying to get it done prior to taking a trip to Alaska because I don't want to fly for a few weeks after...is that nuts? Heh heh.

    Seattle, Washington anyone?

Has anyone had experience with puget sound Bari? I have my first appt set for two weeks from now and am wanting to be sure I am in the right place. I talked to the u but the nurse suggested I gain 30lbs so I'll qualify for ins???? I'm self pay and ok with that and thought she was nuts.
