August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?
iggychic replied to futureskinnypants's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had a great visit with my surgeon today and am tentatively (still) either the 22nd or 23rd. My preop is Atkins two weeks so I'll start it right after I get back from disney land. I get the definitive schedule if it turns out I'm not a nut case....psyc exam (who has had those and what is entailed? Mine is on the 1st). I am going to have 15 house guests the week prior to psyc so I'll either be ultra relaxed cuz they left....or hung over cuz we had too much fun . The doc said that my goal of 110 was good but I'd have to work on those last ten to fifteen lbs. he also warned me that I would lose some weight in my face which might make me look older.........ummm I then left the building and decided I like fat . actually I said that's why god makes Botox lol. He asked me if I would participate in a cancer study for Hutchinson cancer center which means a few more blood draws and a little free lipo I told him they can take all the fat they need....I may not even need the sleeve if they can siphon my butt..... Ummmm I digress . they did my EKG and labs and said I'm a nice healthy fat person . Soon I'll be a nice healthy skinny person! Woo goo -

What's Your Drink Of Choice?
iggychic replied to msvickee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like bubbly Water with favors. No sugar, but the bubbles are going to have to go soon. I won't miss them....but I will miss wine for the first six months after surgery lol. That may kill me! -

I'm on my way to the docs to get my date . Can't wait to have an official verses sometime in August lol. Qotd.....I'm 5' nothing and looking to hit 108 to 110....wait, not hoping...planning . That puts me in a healthy bmi and a comfortable weight range. I've been down below 100 but it was always a bugger to maintain so I'm thinking that's just too small for my frame...we'll see what the doc says today . -

August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?
iggychic replied to futureskinnypants's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Qotd. I am (and always do) work from home (community relations and philanthropy). That means that unless we blow something up or give something big away I don't actually need to work at all so I plan two weeks of not even turning on my computer (iPad here lol). If we do low something up the company pres can talk about it. Officially I'm not working til sept 17 (surgery is the week of the 21st) and that's a dinner party which will be interesting. I think since I'm on liquids then that I will bartend instead of eating with guests. I have hired a gal to be 40 hours with my six year old the first two weeks after surgery. For many of us "work" isn't a 9 to 5 thing so I felt that would be a good idea. -
I am an h now....I'd kill for some pert little b's.....

Anybody Else Very Nervous About The Surgery And The Strict Diet Afterwards?
iggychic replied to vssupermodel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a funny beast....I can totally rock two months of any diet (then hagendas for the third month right?) so I'm not worried...that and I recently spent two years in hospital with my baby, so I've had so much hospital I deeply fear it enough to stick to the after diet to a tee......if not almost fear real food after due to fear of leaks and complications leading to the dreaded hospital..... If you need me to share horror stories of hospital to keep you on the straight and narrow path just let me know. I could scare the bejeezus...or chocolate ice cream, right out of you! -

Minnie, I'm a skinny fat person at 36 apparently (would someone tell my butt that we are skinny at that bmi please)? I am only telling my mom, our nanny and my husband (our son is only six) so I'm not getting any gobbler. I'm sorry you are! I'm however self pay because they want a bmi of 40 to pay (the funny part of this...or ironic.....is that we are self insured and "I" picked the benefits.....eye roll.....). Next years staff will benefit from this...the skinny fat people will also be covered!!!!! -

Q of the day (and probably not much help because the numbers don't compare to Mexico) but, my doc has an inclusive two year package for everything except the extra exams (dependent on patient needs) and the first appt. So the first appt is 850, psyc (my only other costs because I am low bmi with no other complications) 350 and the two year package is 16300 so my total is 17,500. I, also self pay if that matters. -

Actually champagne has the lowest sugar content of wines (good quality/dry) at around 2.5 carbs because (as with all regular wines) the sugars are burned off during the production phase. Unless its a fortified or late harvest wine, they are all pretty low in sugar content. I know folks can do regular wines for the most part, but the carbonation seems to come up as an issue here a lot so I thought I'd ask a pro . -

Thank you ladies! I never guzzle champs heh heh and since I like really wonderful champs the budget keeps that in moderation lol. I really don't like soda but do drink bubbly waters (pellagrino) and I know that would be a no no after sleeve so I've switched to flat water. . -
Why Did You Choose The Sleeve?
iggychic replied to pebbles99's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I chose this after seeing the long term issues with the band as well. In addition I am a wine collector and after I meet my goals, I will be able to drink wine again. It's a big part of our life (we are thinking of producing a Pinot noir) and it does not fit in well with the more extreme surgeries. I also am not heavy enough for the other version in my docs opinion. (less than 100 to lose). I like the long term solution this offers. I have a six year old who has medical issues and needs his mommy. This was the best option to keep me around for his benefit (though I advise trying to get some help built into your budget for the first two weeks after surgery if your kids are small). -

Here is a little "thing" I don't care for on the app (it's all I've ever used...I use an iPad). When I reply to a thread it automatically subscribes me to the thread....no biggie, but it automatically emails me for every reply which I hate so I then have to go into the thread, unsubscribe, then resubscribe and turn off email notifications. I see no where in my iPad options that I can say I don't want the annoying default. Can this be fixed? -

Globe and other a year out plus....I am wondering if you can drink any carbonated drinks at your point in life? I am a wine collector and while I don't drink champagne daily, it is a lovely wine and I'm wondering if that is just going to be something I have to give up? I don't mind letting go of other carbonated items, and will give up champs as well for life ilf necessary but I'd love to think I can still have a small taste when we're touring the caves or celebrating something. -
Made Goal But Now I Want To Lose 10 More Pounds.....
iggychic replied to FishingNurse's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Angelie Jolie is too skinny...don't go for that . my nut mentioned a goal that put me in the high side of normal for my body build (125) but I personally know that I will want to be closer to 110 when I finish so I'll be in the same little boat as you . (let's call it a canoe verses a big fat ferry lol). Those lbs will probably be the ones that force me to the gym IMO and they may be the slowest to come off according to my nut, but like you, I know where I want to be and it's worth working for. Good luck! I'll look forward to seeing how it works for you some can copy you lol -
Is 50 Pounds In 6 Months Super Slow?
iggychic replied to yoshikitty's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My nut and I were talking yesterday about the ways to get calories past the sleeve. The easiest is to drink them. fruit juice, flat soda, high cal coffee drinks, milkshakes, etc are all easy for most to get high calorie foods "by" the sleeve. They can then go onto eating carbs first, then drinking with their meal to wash it down....there are ways and some folks take that route because they can't make the effort to change their life with this great tool. It's not about an occasional treat, but about really working to get that soda and milkshake into your body, which will result in very small weightless overall or loss then regaining. With the sleeve this isn't the norm. Most are very successful, but there are always that ten percent who think its a magic bullet which allows them to eat anything. In some ways it is, but if you're pointing the gun at your forehead with a milkshake in your mouth....the bullet isn't going to do what you want it to do...we are supposed to be aiming at a target of a healthy new life, where even treats are allowed like "normal" people...but they can't be your hourly fare! -
Delta Bumped Me Up To First Class!
iggychic replied to AliveAgain's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
First class is worth every extra mile it costs lol. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I tend to try to fly that way when we go commercial as much as possible because it's so much easier when traveling with a kiddo or alone. Thank god for miles programs! I also like getting through security faster! -
Need Advice Im 21 Yrs Old And Im 3 Weeks Post-Op And Im Getting Tired That I Can't Have At Least One Bite Of Foods I Love.
iggychic replied to Karen2012's topic in Food and Nutrition
Actually you asked for advice and got it. As advice often goes, you may not like all of the advice you get, and if that is an issue for you, you should temper your request so that all of the advice is what you want to hear verses differing opinions. I don't see in my advice that I said you were failing. I said that you may be demonstrating behaviors of someone with a high chance of failure if those behaviors are not addressed. Much as benj did, but that isn't what you want to hear I can tell. My advice to you is to get some counseling so (as I stressed before) you aren't one of the few people who, a year or two out, fails to maintain a healthy lifestyle. But that will only help if you accept in life that sometimes the honest answer isn't the easy one. This program is a magic bullet for most, but only if they aim their weapon correctly. I'm concerned about the direction you are pointing yours .
