  1. You should do a little "carb" research. Do a google search for carb counter and you can see what the foods you eat contain. For instance, ham has carbs (they vary depending on prep) so its a good meat to be a treat. You can also find low carb yogurts and salad dressings which can cut out quite a few carbs. I'm currently on fourth carbs a day and find it pretty easy to stick to. No bread or flour items. No potatoes, rice etc. steak and a salad for dinner, Protein drink for lunch, etc. I have eggs with cheese for Breakfast and milk in my coffee and still have room for a glass of wine carb wise. . But I have really studied carbs so I just know what I need to avoid.

    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

Hello everyone. It's taken hours to read about everyone since I left for Disney on Monday. Kelly I'm so glad to read you are doing well! Is your little guy taking care of mamma? I think I identified with you because we have similar aged little ones and similar fears. I'm glad to see none came true! So many have done well after surgery. It's comforting to read as I face my date (I noticed I got kicked off the list while I was gone by the way....mine is the 23rd in Seattle). I'm n day three of the preop which is easy as its just less than 40grams of carbs per day. I started in Disney (the land of sugar added to everything lol). My only deprivation was no gin and tonic on Thursday lol. It was 93 degrees and that sounded so good (oddly cuz I don't drink hard liquor). So I had a nice white wine instead. I was joking with dh that I may just eat meat and have eight glasses of wine daily through the preop lol. Last night we jumped off the plane and went to a wine tasting charity event. Fortunately it was an argenatinian style dinner which means lots of protein. I did enjoy the wine...lots of it (to taste I mean) but didn't even hit my 40 carbs. It's great to be back home today! Monday I have my preop surgeon visit with dh and they will give me my time then. I can't wait! Tuesday I do my 90 min nut visit so I can prepare for the after diet (it's also supposed to discuss the pre but they gave me a break). I am also going to have some lipo during surgery so maybe I'll be down in lbs quicker than I thought lol. I agreed to donate some fat to a cancer study of people who have no cancer history in their family going back three generations. They think there is something in the fat cells which might fight cancer. I told them they could have all the fat they want.....and maybe some from my butt in the future if they wish lol I'm just wondering if that will delay recovery but I'll be meeting with them Monday too so we will see. Best wishes all....you have been in my thoughts...even when I was in the tower of terror lol

    Husband Is Confused...

For the health of the baby...absolutely. My sister was married to "this guy". It doesn't last and if it does then they pass on their horrible parenting skills to the next generation. My husband cooks, cleans, changes diapers, wipes noses, etc. he is both a partner to me and a father to our son and he is teaching our son that there is no such thing as "women's work". Yes do counseling and see if things change....but anyone engrained enough to say that line, is HIGHLY likely to not be a keeper.

  8. I don't even know how to post given the iPad system is so disjointed, but I hope you read this. I love the people here, but I hate the Internet site on my iPad and the app sucks. I it her get too many notifications or none. I'm giving it a week to be fixed and then I'll find another site.

What I Ate On Vacation (Sleeved July 2Nd)

I'm not sure this is really a good thing.
  10. LaCie, first, you have done a fabulous job! You are working out and taking care of yourself like never before I'd imagine. You're beautiful! I think that the ten pound idea is great, but the better idea is counseling. We all are here for a reason and if we are all lucky we will have great success like you, but for all of us, this is a big change! Body image is such a hot spot for nearly everyone and when you make such a drastic change there is bound to be a mental shift that needs to be made. That's not a bad thing at all. I think with the counseling and your ever increasing goals for fitness (the run) etc, I think six months from now you'll be floating along on cloud nine with a fit body and mind . You are beautiful dear. Keep up the good work, wherever that takes you!

    Cravings.

I'm glad to hear that it was approved. Your post didn't make that clear.

    Cravings.

The difference between the drug addict is they didn't have their gut cut open and most of a vital organ removed a couple of weeks ago. A drink or drugs, or food for an addict without a recent surgery won't "kill" them. Eating food now could actually kill you, hence my suggestion you call your doctor immediately. You seem to think that all that will happen is you will throw up.....you aren't understanding the ramifications of your choice to have this surgery if you think that is the worst thing you think will happen. I wouldn't call someone with cravings an idiot...I'd save that for those who feel a little bite of steak or some pizza or some solid food early on won't kill them. There are examples of everyone of these idiots who are now dead. That's the stupid part....dead! Not hunched over a toilet...dead. Please think about that if you have loved ones who need you.

    Drinking Alcohal?

I'm a wine collector so I researched this to death lol. I actually wouldn't have the surgery if it meant no more wine. You drink less and feel the effects faster (for all liquor). But the effects ware off faster as well (but not quick enough for you to stop acting like a fool if you have too much lol). Bubbles of any sort are not advised for the first year. They are very hard on your new tummy. In moderation after that is ok but watch how they effect you as well if the bubbles you choose are champagne...which goes to your head faster anyhow.... Try to drink lower sugar drinks. Wine is a good choice verses beer or heavier level booze. You can also pick wines with lower alcohol levels. Practicing....seeing how the liquor does effect you is a good idea at home verses going out with friends and finding out you have no tolerance! Any alcohol soon after surgery can be both painful and empty calories. (picture a new cut with alcohol pored on it....). Hope that helps!

    Onederland!

Wow! It's nice to read someone is rocking their new sleeve verses trying to kill themselves on stupid food! Ya'll rock!

    Cravings.

I'm sorry...but my only thought is "you idiot!". You understand that vomiting is not the problem now right? You could DIE!!!!!! Your stomach is not healed and could open if you push it past what you have been told. Call your doctor and ask for some counseling help right now before you kill yourself!

    August Sleevers?! Where Ya's At?

I hope the heaves go heave ho soon she'll! Sleep tight and let us know how you are tomorrow!
  21. I have been traveling with significant amounts of liquids (medicated formula for my son) for six years now. I would HIGHLY advise you print that out and carry it with you. Two times out of three I am asked to open (and thus spoil) each individual, medically sealed container. Don't get upset, remember you are dealing with some of the lowest intelligence beings on the earth, and calmly ask for a supervisor if asked to open the items or are given any slack. Each item will be screened in a machine to check for bad goober which takes a few mins. Don't arrive late! DON'T CARRY ANYTHING ELSE THAT IS AGAINST THE RULES! You are already peeving them off so don't include shampoo in a gallon size bottle . You will also likely get the full body pat down because of your extra cargo. It's par for the course so be calm and just picture Barry fife. You may get lucky and have none of the issues above...but I get that nearly every trip....or did until we bought our own plane because we got sick of it.

    Post Op Pain Killer

Silly question.....if someone gave you a hug right now would it be painful? I have house guests coming two weeks after surgery and I'm not going to be sharing my surgery info with them. They are close friends and employees....we hug....do I need to make up a story?
  23. Well that's not entirely true (that employer decides all benefits). State and federal law are involved as well. In Washington the surgery must be approved with co morbidity issues and coverage for lower bmi obesity is difficult but possible from policy to policy In Alaska our policies are required to cover with comorbidity but we can deny up front if there are none. (choose not to cover under elective/cosmetic clause). My employer, who is me, does not cover for the second but has to for the first. It just wasn't something that came up in the negotiations so we missed it. Next year both will be covered! But in all honesty, if it's not covered, it's not covered. The only fight is to verify state law and then use your diagnosises with the law in hand to point out the error of the companies ways if they have denied Inappropriately. This becomes your battle, not the doctors office. Look to your policy for the appeals process once you have verified there is any coverage via your plan documents. If there isn't coverage though....there just isn't. You can go to the employer and ask them to add it in a future renewal period, but that's all you can do really. I couldn't change my policy and add it to cover me. They can't either if it's excluded.
