Sleeve Experiences - Negative?
iggychic replied to mike010906's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My story is in the story section (called the one you don't want to hear but should). I had it in Edmonds wa at a surgical center (mistake one....this should not be outpatient surgery!) I was near death when I went back to hospital the third time and had to have multiple procedures and surgery again to come back to my family last week. And I'm still in limbo as to if I will be going back and if I will retain my stomach. IMO this is a surgery for those with over 40bmi and comorbidities. For anyone else it's not worth the risks. -
I also haven't set small goals. At 35 down I will be half way. I have my eye on the mate to my last diets reward at 30 down which is a 3' tall cut crystal perfume display bottle. I suppose I could make that a half way goal It's antique and one of a kind (the pair) so...gosh you have nearly talked me into it. At goal I'm torn....if we are super flush I'd like to buy a glass window (wheel cut, antique) that is extremely rare. Dh and I both want the danged thing though so perhaps it could be twenty years worth of Christmas gifts lol. But the one thing I am doing is to meet with a professional stylist at nordstroms and drop some serious cash on a new wardrobe that defines who I am now verses ten years ago when I was my goal weight and wore suits most of the time. Now I float between mixing up horsehair plaster to repair a wall and and fancy dancy cocktail parties. So I need a split personality wardrobe I guess lol. Maybe I should budget in part of that wardrobe from the hardware store! Boy ya sure feel like a lady when you say you're going cloths shopping at the hardware store.....

iggychic replied to mike010906's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i had significant complications and still may lose my stomach all together. $250,000 in additional costs. i regret having the surgery. i was lower bmi. if just one of the horiffic procedures that were used to save my life had been fully described to me id have joined a gym. -

Self Pay--But Insured, What About Complications?
iggychic replied to MuzzyDN's topic in Insurance & Financing
I have BC as well and all complications have been covered so far (we expect the total bill to exceed $250,000). I wasn't covered for the surgery because of a low BMI and no comorbidities. But we are self insured (we pay for all of our employees care and BC administers the policy). So in many ways we set what's covered. Our policy is quite generous for the most part. But I actually didn't expect them to pay so we're happy we didn't have to fight about it. -

My nut said not to focus on carbs as long as they are healthy carbs. I eat a lot of bean soup and broccoli cheddar which are high carb and am losing.

Shock! Ummm honey you're kinda like a normal thin person now. Think back six months.....would you have come back, weighed yourself and then immediately started planning how to get rid of those extra pounds?

Knot In Stomach
iggychic replied to sexy_sleevegirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You might want to call your doc and get in to see him/her Hun. At three weeks out you should be almost back to normal and it sounds like you are still having a lot of issues. Three weeks out or so I was lying on an operating table having a leak repaired. I had the surgery and never got better. You don't have leak symptoms but id still get a checkup with your surgeon. -
Had A Date And My Insurance Wants 6 Documented Diet
iggychic replied to steelergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't talking about you dear. Jayne mentioned her journal idea which technically would be pushing the line a bit close to the fraud side given you haven't been keeping one so far. The six month thing is fairly common. You only have three more months to do which is better than the whole six and anything you do lose would get you closer to goal in the end -

Dinner At Boss's House 4 Weeks Out
iggychic replied to sramos89's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Can I give you the "bosses" perspective? We are going to haev our annual group of 20 employees down to our washington house next weekend. We have done this now for four years. We do some outside dinning (this year we are actually going to be in seattle because of the complications I have had with my surgery so I can't host) but we also cook for our guests, Breakfast and dinner a few times during the event. I never want a guest in my house to not enjoy their visit. This goes for friends, family, our team and strangers. I would personally love to hear that someone has a dietary issue in advance so that I can prepare something they can enjoy as well as the foods I'm doing for others. I would NEVER point out or ask questions if someone didn't clean their plate...actually I'd probably not notice. This is about the team, not about their personal eating habbits. I "as the boss" would love to have a quick email from you stating that you'd had a recent surgery for reflux and were only allowed to have things like soup without chunks, potatoes, soft fish,, etc. and as such you'd be happy to bring a side dish if that's too difficult for her to handle the night of the event. I'd respect you MORE for having done so. The last thing I want is a guest to feel akward in my home or at an event I am hosting. It's a priority of mine. We have a team member who is lactose intollerant, allergic to nuts, garlic and gad I forgot...I think it was onions, and can't have wheat. We work around her issues and either quietly serve her something else, or have a chef do so if we are at a restaurant. I think nothing of it.
