Whats Wrong With Me?/
iggychic replied to newgrandmother's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
He said at five weeks he would think you should be more focused on Protein. Ummmm thats pretty standard for the program. Yours might be a bit different, but he is kindly sharing that normally at five weeks protein is typically king. He's not scolding you. I am shocked anyone would take that comment that way. -

I think the hunger is getting to you. Butter did not say anything that deserved that nastyness my dear. He asked the same question I would have asked you because your diet seems odd for five weeks out. Especially given you are having issues with being full. The gravy should be considered as it likely isn't low in sugar. You might ask your nut about that...bring in the label if necessary. Low fat isn't the only thing to consider. -
Sleeping After Surgery?
iggychic replied to iggychic's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it seems like benedryl is the only thing that works but i haven't tried other things maybe ill get a little tylenol pm to try. I cant take an actual sleeping pill because I need to get up with my son at least once a night unfortunately. it is getting a bit better than it was when i first got out of the hospital but not enough. i chalked it up to the 22 days of constantly being woken up every few hours but I'm on week three out of that and you'd think my body would let me sleep! -

Wow - Just Added Up The Cost Of My Surgery - $81865.22
iggychic replied to mufasas-mom's topic in Insurance & Financing
42,000 for one night? Dang girl you could have just rented disneyland and called it a day I expect my care to exceed $250,000 but I was only guessing ten grand a night for hospital. Thats been about average for any hospital we have been in with our son. Geeze I hope our estimate is closer to our number than your bill! -
The estrogen your body throws off during rapid weight loss can effect your TOM as well. I had severe complications for the first 45 days after surgery and didnt have one the month I was going through the worst. That was probably a blessing to say the least. Being helpless without your period is bad enough (can you say sponge bath?) let alone dealing with TOM.

I had mine at a day surgery place. I recommend HIGHLY that you stay at least one night if not two. You are having a vital organ cut out of your body...if they took half a kidney you'd stay right? Stay just to be safe. This is not a safe day surgery IMO As to time off, the first surgery I couldn't have gone back to work if my life depended on it due to complications, but after the second, I needed a rest for sure each day the first week. At the end of the second I attended a four day conference and did fine, though I was tired out by Sunday. I'd say a week is short but if you can adjust your schedule to make it easier that you will likely be ok the second week if you have no complications. Listen carefully to your body though. If it needs a break take it.

I Have A Question About Going To The Bathroom
iggychic replied to WingsOfAButterfly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If he does, and you are still ill, do as I did in the hospital that wanted to send me home...look on the net and find the best hospital within a couple of hours of you that does gastric surgery and tell them you want to be transferred there. Fire your doc and they will give you a new one because you are newly sleeved. or is you are in a sleeve hospital, ask for another docs second opinion and ask for it in person. Sleeve surgeon only! We are here for you! Get some answers before you go back home. I didn't fight hard enough at the start and that nearly killed me. I don't want to see you go through what i did. -

Lovenox Injections
iggychic replied to MsShaunaMarie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well ya you definitely want to take it! It was suggested for me after a PIC linen was removed. There was a tiny clot on an exterior and not important vessel causing me little risk of any danger aside from infection. The doc suggested the shots to me, as well as cumodin for I think three too six months (AMA guideline). It was late at night...I let them do one and then waffled all night about following through with it as cumodin and I don't have a comfy lifestyle (I run, climb ladders, scaffolding, blah blah)) so I asked about the risks again and was told that I could do ultrasound follow up to watch it until I was either in more danger or out of it. The doc gave me no trouble about not doing it and then later another said he wouldn't have taken the meds in my case. On the two week check it had totally dissipated. Thank goodness! The fear you have to live with is something that scares the crap out of me! I wish you well during the surgery and be a good girl and take those shots faithfully!!! -
I've taken to a small glass at night that i enjoy after dinner. i drink about 2.5 oz. now that sounds small to you but I'm just picking it up again so I'm working on my lost palate. (It's homework...not indulgence) I was previously a two or three glass a day wine drinker (depending on if we had company) so this is a big change for me, but I enjoy the taste now and don't want to get toasted (I never did like that feeling). I want to see how I do up too a normal serving but I'm not there yet. I'm three weeks out from my second surgery and some ten weeks or so from my first (aug 23). I was very ill after surgery and aside from anesthesia I had little interest in anything else during the first month and a half so I can't tell you when a normal sleever feels comfy with a drink. Most docs say wait at least two months. Some torture their patients with a year! I feel it my duty to drink up some of the wine when DH opens it. I don't want the man to have to drink up the entire cellar himself (The sacrifices a wife makes...sheeesh)

Lovenox Injections

I took them in hospital and then quit after a discussion with the doc. I didn't like the heprin/coumadin risks, but for some its vital so do what your doc says, but feel free to question. It shouldn't be routine..it should be patient based. That said, I gave myself those types of shots (hormones and meds) for three years while trying to have or carry a successful pregnancy. A great deal of your problem (and any normal human) is that it's counterintuitive to stick a needle in your body...so you have to get over the mental game. I myself had to do it alone, no one could talk to me, look at me, bother me, etc. Total silence. Like a tummy poking ninja stealth.... A tip to avoid pain and bruising (which should not happen with each shot). The best thing to do is to ice the area by holding an ice cube on your shot location for a min or two, then quickly wipe with the alcohol swab and inject quickly into the location. (Have your shot all ready to go, alcohol pads open and on top of their container). Additionally if you pinch about an inch worth of skin and fat up and then do the icing and injection, pinching firmly but not hard, you will find it goes easier. If you find the ice a pain, just do the pinch. By the time you are done with the shots you will be an expert. The ice helps with the med stinging and can reduce bruising if you are hitting a blood vessel (there is nothing dangerous to hit in the fat so don't let that freak you out). You can also bruise by going in too slow. See....I got nothing out of the baby attempts, but it did make me an expert on gut shots so there's a silver lining out there right? heh heh -
