You're a doll I'm almost out of the woods (two more weeks til they officially test and clear me to quit worrying about another surgery....all signs are very good so far). Initially on puree I was on 2 oz at a time, (1/4 cup) which seems like so little but was hard to get down LOL I'm in week four now, moving to week five and am having 1/2 a cup at a time, which is plenty for me. After I'm cleared I can go up to 3/4 but that's because I'm on a weird time skew (10 weeks from the initial surgery and five from the second...for some stuff they use the first date and some the second...for this they are using the first date). Personally I'm having a hard time getting in five 1/2 cup meals a day so going up does not seem reasonable to me, but I have been thinking of doing four or three meals a day instead which might be easier once my tummy will allow it. It's kind of funny what your tummy allows. Cottage cheese...I could eat more than i'm allowed now, but am totally satisfied with what I do eat. But denser stuff...refried Beans or meat...I have to keep those portions lower. Liquids (dense ones like cream Soup, chocolate milk, etc...stuff on your full liquid diet...yogurt...) I can have more of with no problem. Lamb did not want to be eaten for dinner tonight LOL So I had mashed potatoes with Protein powder and butter. (1/2 cup total) Some people have talked about different portion sizes...when I was in hospital after the second surgery I was on week one diet for their sleeve and they wanted me to have 4 oz of Soups or yogurt or custard (the stuff they have for their "full liquid" diet). Prior to discovering the leak they had me on purees for a day and that was a 2 oz serving. The guy in the room next to mine was on the same day and he was having half a cup, but he was 6'7" (we walked halls together) so his sleeve was longer...bigger...than mine. So your milage may vary Oh ya, and I was able to deal with liquids pretty well. Because I missed the initial healing phase where you only get tiny sips mostly. So when my second surgery was done I was able to drink as I do now...pretty much normal sized drinks but no chug a lug lug. I do often have 16 oz of milk (am right now) with oveltine to make up for any missed protein during a day. I have no issues with that.

How Many Days After Surgery Were You Able To Get Out Of The House?
iggychic replied to fgotr121's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
day 58 i went to the grocery store and then let my 70 year old mom schlep the groceries lol Now you'll feel better about just waiting a week or so heh heh -
You are quite welcome dear. I forgot to mention...I actually do use a plate...well actually a bowl, that I have here at the house by the dozens (we bought the house with all of it's stuff LOL) and I've been measuring 1/2 a cup into it for so long that I actually can use the bowl as my guide. That's easier with a bowl because things don't spread out like on a plate. Early on though you really want to be precise in your measurements because over doing it in the puree and soft food stages can put a strain on your new stomach (risking leaks).

What Are "milk Based Soups"?
iggychic replied to fgotr121's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I forgot to mention, it was specifically on the bariatric (sleeve) diet at the hospital on full liquids. that and potato soup. Frankly hospital made soup is total crap...and the tomato was HORRIFIC but at home I make it quite often. I am a bit further than you are, but I like it over a scoop of cottage cheese Sounds odd, but try it LOL Umm when you are allowed heh heh -
A regular sized plate is anywhere from 9 to 15 inches so it is never a good tool for measuring. The difference between a 9" cake and a 15" cake is several different servings! You can eat (initially) what your doctor says you can. Later (after several months) you will find out what normal is for you. Likely somewhere between 3/4 a cup and a cup and a half. Average at a year is one cup. Measured in a measuring cup mind you, not on a plate And sure this question gets asked a lot...but if you don't want to answer it, don't Wouldn't that be nicer?

What Are "milk Based Soups"?
iggychic replied to fgotr121's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you make it with milk it is They want to get Protein in you in any way possible. I was offered tomato soup day two in the hospital from my second surgery (they normally offer it day two for the first surgeries they do as well). I'm surprised anyone wouldn't allow it because it has been on most diets I've seen for sleeve. But god only knows each doc has to tweek it Sometimes you just have to shake your head and go along for the ride! -
Bipass Or Sleeve - Now I’M Confused
iggychic replied to shastadaisy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a wine collector so this was actually a big deal for me. A friend had the bypass (she and her husband are also collectors) and she just cant drink anymore. She's about a year out on her surgery and while it's worked wonders, she misses the wine tasting experience. We are also big foodies and I wanted to be able to still eat out and taste everything I wanted. She is limited because if it's sweet or fat she ends up dumping. So no Desserts at all (she won't take a bite) and no pate, lamb, gad she's got a long list. I didn't want that for myself. -
How Many Carbs Are You Eating?
iggychic replied to TheNewSusie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My current doc does not focus on carbs as long as they're complex (ie fruits, vegis, Beans, dairy, etc). I watch fat and sugar levels but don't worry about carbs. Just for fun I did look the other day and even with a couple glasses of milk I'm still basically under 50 or so each day, sometimes more, most often less. Carbs get a bad name because of processed foods, ie white bread and candy. good carbs are part of a balanced diet and not something to be afraid of. -

I Dont Like Food Anymore

I feel the same way delta. I have had some sorbet, a little pannacotta, but both were at restaurants that were pretty high end and it was lower sugar than you'd get if you had it from a store...anyhoo, they were good, but I was satisfied with a few bites. I LOVED red hot candy, chocolate, ok I loved sugar and really...I have no desire right now. I hope that continues I think part of that is getting off of them during the presurgery diet...basically kicking my carb addiction Now they're a nice treat, but I don't want them constantly. -
I Need Opionions On A Leak
iggychic replied to MDM0927's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
If you did damage the new sleeve (and you are in that window of time) you need to get to your ER and call your doctor NOW. A leak can kill. It can not wait. -
You are increasing the time it will take to recover significantly by consuming no protein. You HAVE to eat or drink something more than you are. While the weight might be falling off, it's going to stop fast because you are throwing your body into starvation mode. the weight coming off will be muscle verses fat.

I Dont Like Food Anymore
iggychic replied to newgrandmother's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
She's had issues all her life. Belimic and anorexia. Stemming from a difficult childhood. She's not been "fat" but she still comes from a place where food was a primary focus one way or another. -
She's giving you information that is frankly quite incorrect. Many people do their "job" for years and do it really badly. If you accept the wrong information and give up than another bad nut wins. It's your choice of course, but this is just patently wrong information. The standard for insurance covering a sleeve is 40+ BMI with no need for comorbidities or 35+ with one or two (depending on the company) comorbidities. 50+ BMI's are still good sleeve candidates and higher than 55 are often recommended the sleeve for step one of a two step process. 60+ is done as well but you want to be sure you're working with a physician who's dealt with those higher BMI's. She's an idiot.

Make an appt with the doc and get the real story from them. My son has had a feeding disorder for years. We have met with nuts all over the country and honestly, they're 99% full of crap most of the time. It takes very little education to get the job and less brain power to keep it. Don't let some little nutcase stop your journey. Tell the doc what she said (which is total crap....this surgery is preformed on people in the 60's plus bmi as a first step). Over 40 is a typical insurance REQUIREMENT! She really has no idea what she's talking about sadly. She should be reported to her supervisor at a minimum.

What's Your New Addiction?
iggychic replied to SkinnyMinnie2Be's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I find myself reserving dresses for events months forward from Rent the Runway dot com. I have six for our holiday christmas party on hold LOL I am also having a blast cleaning out my closet. I'm saving the good stuff for charity (a charity that helps women out with a new wardrobe for their career path) and frankly tossing the rest in the trash happily. When it's empty I'm gonna go shopping big time LOL -

You know my son has a feeding disorder (he has no natural hunger drive) and kids like him prefer sweet, salty and savory in BIG flavors. I am finding as I eat less that the things I used to like a little now sound great, like salsa. I had a scrambled egg with salsa and sour cream yesterday for Breakfast and it was heaven. Pre sleeve I'd have not been that excited about salsa frankly. Maybe thats the trick you should be looking for...something highly flavored (that bowl of yummies sounds good to me LOL) -
Some of those numbers are so much higher than mine. I am to get 60 G protein, keep fats and sugars low and not worry about the rest. I end up making it to 60 with a glass of oveltine many nights. I also add half a scoop of unjury to yogurt, Soup, etc, to get there as I don't enjoy the Protein drinks. My goal is basically 60 now and goes down to 50 g at maintenance. I shoot for around 600 cals, but don't worry if I'm just a bit more.

Good way to get it out of your system I used to eat a lot of fast food when DH was out of town (I'm a lazy cook) and I must admit I think a hit at Taco Bell sounds good LOL (soft burrito with cheese and beans...hey that's almost allowed for me LOL), but I worry the fat would bother my tummy so I haven't tried it. That said, I had a delicious crab sandwich (minus the bread) which came with steak fries and I enjoyed a couple. It's kind of nice to have a treat and not be able to eat enough to cause a problem. So have you done bread much? I'm afraid to try! I know my nut allows them this week but I think it's supposed to be toasted whole wheat....I've been too chicken to explore that kind of carbs much!
