    Glass Of Wine

Mine allowed it. I was 8 weeks when I had my first taste. Since it's at an event though, sip slowly and see how it effects you.
  2. I'm with Cheri on this one, although I must admit that I don't normally "overeat" Cookies and holiday stuff. I over drink wonderful wines, egg nog and what the hell is the name of that german spiced wine???? Anyhoo, I plan on enjoying a taste of anything that I feel I want, and making a healthier egg nog for myself to enjoy Christmas morning with mom's bread pudding (that's our holiday tradition). For Thanksgiving I'm going to Minnesota at relatives and they are all nervous of offending me for some reason so they won't press when I have a small plate (I don't know why...maybe cuz my husband would rip them a new one LOL) But then again I am not worried about sharing I've just had surgery and can't eat much (had to do that the other night at a greek dinner). No one freaks and they understand when you avoid certain foods that way. My favorite holiday foods are sweet potatoes and filet mignon (or christmas dinner) and I plan on eating a bit of my potatoes (which are NOT healthy LOL...I know, it's my recipe and i won't alter it) and more of the filet. I do plan on some pumpkin pie, but I won't return for more later in the evening LOL I didn't have this surgery to deny myself for life. I had it to regain my life, just a few bites at a time!

    Unflavored Protein Powder?

Ladies and gents, with any medical Protein powder you will see directions that say something like "Four scoops per day". These protein powders are designed to be a person's ENTIRE meal plan 24/7. They are often fed through a tube to their victim....umm patients, so when they put directions on the bottle they are directions that do not apply to people who are supplementing their meal plan with protein. (And yes they are expensive as all hell if you are doing this and not often covered by insurance....my son's, at ten months, ran about $500 a week). I use unjury and like it a lot. I tend to use the chicken (which I add to savory items) and the unflavored. I rarely add an entire scoop though. I add half a scoop to Soups or yogurt which pumps a meal up to 15 or so from maybe 4 or 5 it might have been. I've had the container of unjury for quite some time and it's not half gone as I try to get my protein from actual food verses powders or shakes so it wasn't horribly expensive and it gets me over the hump without adding a lot of carbs, which my other go to Protein Drink (0 fat milk with oveltine) does do. I find a whole scoop to be overwhelmingly gross, but then I don't enjoy Protein drinks at all. But the half or even a 1/4 scoop is pretty invisible in food and for those who struggle with getting all their protein in, it can be what keeps you at goal.

Stomach Spasms - 1 Week Out

Spasm's caused a leak (likely) in my case hun. Don't wait to call your doc. They might want to give you a muscle relaxant given it's so frequent.
  7. I think I need to revise my goal due to the longest stall in history (ok in my history LOL). Let's say I don't gain anything before thanksgiving! Original Weight 188 Current Weight 155.1 and holding Goal Weight.....ok 154.1 would be nice!!!! (That takes me out of the obese category and makes me just "fat") LOL I used to teach a class to bankers on setting goals. I would have never taught them to make such an easy (ya right) goal LMAO! And let's add a two mile walk three times a week! That I can actually control! Oh...except DS woke up sick so today will be a challenge....grrrrr

    Very Nasty

Jessie, are you on pain killers? They tank my BP but cause no other scary symptoms that low bp can so it's just an educational moment for the docs. But each time I get a new doc they freak out at the low bp (when on pain killers). You might see if you can quit using them and see how that effects your bp if you aren't in a lot of pain....just a thought. I was away from my kiddo for a long time! That's hard on mommy! Hugs from afar...one mom to another.
  9. Despite my mean sounding post Scotty, I really do care. I don't want anyone to suffer the pain I suffered or to be asked multiple times in the night if you need to see a Chaplin. You don't want to face death for a burger. I know it's hard and would add that perhaps you might want to make an appt with a therapist who specializes in eating disorders or perhaps a support group locally. I get wanting more But I also want to be clear to you what you risked. You likely wouldn't put a gun to your head and play Russian roulette right? What you did was actually the same game. Talk to folks here, talk to your doctor, do it daily or hourly or whatever it takes for you not to take a risk like that again. If you are lucky you only got sick. But also because you have taken that risk you need to watch for leak symptoms for the next few weeks. Some are very slow to show. I hope you don't have an issue! But don't risk it again

    Drinking After Vsg

I am about 13 weeks out maybe...I've lost count (Aug 23rd first surgery). I have wine on occasion. I can drink much less than I used to, much slower as well, but I don't get toasted easier as many say they do. I don't drink champagne right now because of bubbles...have to wait six months, and I don't drink hard liquor. I don't drink anything fast so I suppose part of my not getting drunk is how long it takes to drink anything. Halloween night I probably had three glasses of wine total...maybe less, (we had a huge party at our house and I kept losing my glass LOL) but I certainly never got tipsy at all.

    Is There Something Wrong?

Oh and I've puked once. I ate a protein bar that had some kind of puffy rice crap in it. My doc says not to puke, so I avoid it! I could have just gone anaorexic if puking was ok with me

    Is There Something Wrong?

I had complications so I went without food for about 50 days. Sadly Water still tastes like water (I was hoping it would taste like wine). I did lose my desire for bad carbs but as I was preparing spagetti tonight I did think about garlic bread I didn't have any but the whole wheat Pasta was a lovely treat. Oddly enough wine tasted like crap after I returned to the booze wagon. We collect wine so this is a bit of a tragedy. I was told it was because I went without any food for so long due to the complications. It's not abnormal that if you take a long absence from foods that it takes your body time to develop the ability to experience flavors again in some areas. For me it's the subtle tastes within red wine. But being a wine virgin again isn't all bad I'm becoming a veritable wine sleeze as I try to get my palate back So far whites and rose are back, red is a challenge...but I'm dedicated LOL
  13. i tell people generally, but had originally planned on only telling close friends. I decided to tell them after realizing that if I didn't I was going to need to lie, which is not part of my make up. (half truths are as much a lie as a lie to me). I ended up being happy I did tell people because I had major complications and those dear friends who supported me, but also felt I was "not big enough, or fine the way I was" helped my family during my very long hospital stay. Had I not told them I think they would have been angry with me (as I would have been with them) so I thank goodness I chose honesty as the best policy. I don't care what people, strangers and friends, think about what I did The people in my life support me, those who don't aren't worth having in my life. I'm old and cynical that way But we also had scheduled charity events that had to be cancelled while I was in hospital and for those I felt better telling the truth about why I had to cancel than lying and giving half truths would have made me feel.

    Bcbs Of Western New York

There are hundreds of policies under bcbswny. Each differs according to the choices made by the employer. If you want good answers you need to actually call your ins company with card in hand or call your personnel office.

    Hungry

I had the same thought. It looks like you are washing the "food" portion of your meal right down the tubes with the coffee and milk. If you are drinking with meals you should stop. You'll have much more success. You could also consider something like a half scoop of unjury in your milk (chocolate spleandor is great) to bulk up the meal and have it hold longer, (I make a latte with 8oz milk, 8 coffee and 1/2 scoop chocolate with some sf vanilla syrup). I'm plenty satisfied with that for some time.
  16. I was told no bubbles for six months. I wouldn't have had the surgery if there was a no bubbles for lifetime LOL I can't live without champagne!
  17. Warm peppermint tea and decaf constant comment tea were the only way I could get my fluids. I hated clear Protein drinks, popsicles, Jello and of course stocked up to the tune of hundreds of dollars lol. I donated most of it t a local gym last week. Right after surgery I could no longer tolerate "fake" flavors and I still feel that way, which is odd because I used to love jello. I still add unjury to things to get to my protein level many days, but I also drink a lot of milk for protein. I used a lot of mushroom and onion Soups strained oh and I am VERY FORTUNATE in having a dear friend who owns a local restaurant. She and another fab cook friend of mine both made me home made beef, lamb and lentil Soup stock to drink. The flavor of beef stock made from scratch is totally different, and so much better than the canned one. I savored every ounce of those.
