    Thinking Of Not Doing It,

I had the surgery with 70lbs to lose which is considered low weight in the surgery world. I had no risk factors, it was cosmetic basically, and to ward off a family history of being overweight (but in all other ways healthy...we live to be 100 easy in my family, even very overweight). I had a six year old at the time. I had internal bleeding during the surgery which caused spasm's. I had to have two blood transfusions to stop the convulsions which lasted 24 plus hours. Horribly painful...think of a charlie horse all over your body. I developed a fever which was attributed to the blood but was in fact a leak. I was in hospital 22 days, and bedridden for 45 plus. Then after than I had to go through all of the weight restrictions...no lifting for about four months total from the original surgery. My son needs me and I couldn't be here with him. I regret that I had this surgery to lose the weight I gained during fertility treatments (unsuccessful) and pregnancies that didn't make it. Had one of the horrific procedures they did to save my life been done to me prior to surgery I'd have buckled down and joined a gym. Had I known I would be so sick, I'd have joined a gym. Had I a clue how risky this surgery is, I'd have NEVER had it while my child was small. Never! So, given you don't sound ready for it. You have a low amount to lose, and you have small children at home...my advice would be to not have it now. Give yourself another chance at something less drastic. But understand that surgery or not, you aren't going to be able to eat large amounts of Pasta, hot dogs, beer etc, without weight issues. That said, I can eat pasta. I collect wine, it's still a part of my life and always will be, but I don't drink as much as I used to. I don't get drunk easier...I don't see any difference there actually from pre and post surgery, but I can't consume as much, which is fine. I drink wine with meals on occasion, not huge gulps but sips especially if the food is dryer. I don't drink beer but I do love champagne and after six months I can have that again on occasion as well. I'm not deprived, but I'm also not wanting to eat simple carbs. I'd rather have a steak cooked at the camp fire than a hot dog but if I want one I can have one...just not daily (they're gross anyhoo unless they have been burnt on a stick). If you decide to pursue this later in life, that's great, but you sound like you aren't ready, and really, don't need it right now.

    Very Nasty

I'm glad you got to spend the night with your babies Jessie. I know that had to feel wonderful! But I am worried about that fever! Whatever it is, and I know it's hard, go back in and get to the cause hun. I nearly died due to complications and while the separation from my child was hard, very hard, dying would have been so much harder on him! Have they done a barium swallow on you yet! It's a leak test, different than an xray or cat scan. That was what finally diagnosed mine. Keep us in the loop if you can. We all hate to see these stories, but now we are attached . We want to kow when you are out of the woods...I would bet you do too! As to the weight gain...I gained 40lbs the first six weeks. All from multiple surgeries, procedures and the IV fluids as well as the tpn feedings. That took a couple of weeks to get rid of but it does fall off. 8lbs is pretty normal and easy to get rid of. But I also understand your regrets. I still regret the risks I took. I don't know if that will ever fade.

    Jessie, how are you doing?
  4. trust the pregnant chick to know what the fancy wine is called I only drink spiced wine at Christmas, but it's tradition and it must be drunk Ever since my first trip to Germany I've been addicted to snowy nights with a glass of mulled wine (the english name). But each calorie is accounted for...even if it's the holidays, on my fitness pal. I have made eggnog for many years. The worst part of it is the burbon, whiskey and dark rum IMO (calorie wise). At least the milk and cream have some benefit LOL But several years ago the kids at Christmas wanted the eggnog so I made a non alcoholic eggnog using the same recipe (an old betty crocker recipe). It was far too thick because the original recipe counts on about 14 cups of booze to thin it. So I used milk and then more eggs without upping the sugar and it was great. As low cal as splenda? Maybe not, but much like icecream, I'll bet ya I can't drink more than half a cup anyhoo, so that won't kill me. BTW I'd rather be prego than able to drink Best wishes for a beautiful baby in the New Year!

    Please Tell Me

when can i drink booze? are cheetos ok week three? ummm what else????? ok in all seriousness, because i had major complications which were dismissed by medical professionals, my advice that i actually command you and any other new sleever to follow is....listen to your body! excessive pain, weakness, vomiting, etc are not to be ignored! listen to your body and if anything seems odd, call your doctor and then post a question here. we are not experts and your issues should not be dismissed! its life and death serious! im more fun when i am waxing poetic about farts.....right? (but i mean every word)

    Can You Eat Red Meat?

Did they mean now as in the stage you are in, or never? Never sounds like a personal issue. Medium rare tenderloin....easy on my sleeve. Shrimp or halibut overcooked even a tad....painful.

    3 Days Post Op

Having had terrible complications my dear...I'm going to give you the annoying and OH SO RIGHT answer of "CALL YOUR DOCTOR". Don't wait for someone here to say it's ok or not ok. That's not normal, not something you were told to expect, so call your doctor. Complications of this surgery are life threatening and should not wait for some dork like me on the internet to answer you! (And I say that with love in my heart because I never want anyone to experience the hell of complications of this surgery as I did)
  11. I'm telling you...go back and read the thread....it's a killer! LMAO And I'm not even touching the "OMG it was large" thread!

    Glass Of Wine

LOL there was another wine question in another thread and I want to tell you I totally refrained from commenting even though she spelled it "whine" which she linked to the word liquor. I totally refrained from a whine and lick her comment....I swear, I'm a model of decorum....
  13. I would love to have taken full credit for it but I'd recently seen something similar on tv and it just hit my brain at the right time That said I'm queen of the comebacks...which I often regret cuz they pop into my head far too easily LOL It's a burden...sometimes it's easier to carry than others.

    Glass Of Wine

Or drink like a fish and dance on the table...or puke in the flowers. Both risk you not being invited to an event again, or being invited because you're nice entertainment....

    In Tears..overly Fearful..

tok...???? normally I can read typoisese but this one threw me...Tea? My general answer would be don't drink tok, but that might not help LOL
  16. Beconaise is old school (first one developed many years ago) but I find it works better for me than anything else, and for anyone I've recommended it to. I go 100% allergy free while on it (after about a week mind you when I start). I have never found it to wear off in effectiveness.

    Glass Of Wine

Exactly. but whoever called them "empty" didn't enjoy wine. its my fifth food group but i account for it as well
  18. Benedryl is safe for sleevers as are many other allergy meds. Just avoid the ones with NSIDS (is that how it's spelled). Of which there are many OTC so you have to watch out for them. Have you tried nasal spray allergy meds? I use Beconaise AQ and it beats the heck out of pills. It builds in your system and cuts off all allergy response. No side effects!
