Thanksgiving Day Challenge
iggychic replied to AKSleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't weigh in on Thanksgiving morning because we have decided to fly to Minnesota to be with my husband's family (I only count weight on my scale). But...I didn't think I was going to make my goal of 145 because I was in a two and a half week stall. Surprise, I went down a pound yesterday and today....SEVEN pounds (I apparently exercise or have liposuction in my sleep LMAO). So, my final weigh in will be on Tuesday morning before we leave for the airport. But if I stay on track I just might make it! Starting weight 185 Challenge weight start 155.6 Today's weight 146.6 Challenge weight goal 145.nothing -

Vsg Causes Accelerated Aging?
iggychic replied to Marquel's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
As to looks...I actually look older than I did because of the weight loss. I used to say the fat kept the wrinkles away...as it turns out, that's true LOL But having the rounded face of a 15 year old isn't necessarily a good thing. I was always mistaken for early 30s when I decided to have this surgery. It helps to have a 6 year old...people think you are younger than you are. The other day I was talking to a group of mom's at the school and age came up. Several of them said they thought I was "their age". Most of them are a good ten years younger than me, so as I am pushing 50, being mistaken for 40 ain't all bad I see age I didn't see before because of the fat. Smile lines, an ever so tiny jowl forming....worry lines at the eyebrows. These weren't apparent when I was carrying 40 pounds more than I am now. If they get more prominent I'll probably be vain and go fix them (Though I do fear that given my luck with complications they'd accidently relocate an eye to my nose). But right now, I'm ok with the changes I see. I'm not 25 I don't need to look it. DH says that rubies look silly on young women....I'm hoping he's thinking of a purchase one can never have too many rubies LOL -

Appetite Back... With A Vengeance!

Are you both losing weight? As to the work outs...did you adjust your calorie and Protein intake to fit them? That is important if they are significant. -

Actually I had it at a Bariatric Center of Excellence. Many sleevers here have had great success with the doctor and his reputation was stellar. My dear, you don't know me. You don't know anything about me or my story. You don't know why I chose the route I chose. So don't flip out insults and snide comments. It's not becoming and it's a horrible reflection on you when you have an icon of a gorgeous baby staring at us in your posts. Look at that beautiful picture and try to let go of some of this bitterness towards someone you don't know will you please? It's kind of silly.

A Little Down :(
iggychic replied to crisanthemum85's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ok I'll bite...yes you should be happy that you've lost 27 and that sounds perfectly normal, but just in case...are you charting your food on something like my fitness pal? Are you watching the sugar and fat content of the things you put in your body? Are you drinking 40 carbs a day in wine? Are you getting any exercise? Are you still at 600 cals and getting a lot of exercise but not supplementing your Protein intake? You might be doing something wrong...you haven't told us what you are doing I only had 70lbs to lose and my activity level was not existent for the first two months due to complications so I know my weight loss is on track for my situation. Many people have lost more than me...but they also were different than me. I'm actually ok with slow weight loss because it allows your skin to go back into place easier than with rapid weight loss or with high levels of weight loss. I also never minded the thought of losing hair because I have so much of it, but that hasn't happened because I'm not losing at a hugely rapid pace. I recently had a long stall (a few weeks and I'm out six from my second surgery). But this week I lost 8....I did so by upping my calories and protein and concentrating on Water intake (or fluids). I assessed my program, which I track carefully on MFP and made changes and the weight loss is moving again. So, look at where you are, think about what you are doing and be realistic about your loss. It's still a loss right? Have you ever been able to say "I only lost 27lbs and it won't come back?" That's a good thing I kissed goodbye to obesity yesterday for the rest of my life (hit the "just fat" category). Look to those goals verses goals set by the losses of friends. They just aren't comparable. -

Any 40 Something Women Get Pregnant After Sleeved?
iggychic replied to Tana_Q's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
Tana, the reason that many women get pregnant after large weight losses is that their bodies tend to regulate, making it easier to ovulate in a timely manner, thus making it easier to get pregnant. I had my first baby at 42, totally an accident mind you. I was not heavy then. I had another natural pregnancy at 45 which I lost due to an accident and the resulting surgery. After that I went through ART and IVF as we attempted to have another but lost all of the babies unfortunately. Pregnancy at 40 is totally possible but you might consider working with an ART NP or doctor to help you out. Especially as any sleever would need to take special precautions to ensure that they properly provide for the fetus as it grows. I wish you the best! -
A good choice to edit out the womp womp womp response. Do me a favor honey, don't comment on my posts. You aren't doing yourself any good. I hope for your sake that you don't have the experience I had in your surgery so that you can maintain your lack of compassion for others. I honestly don't want even my worst enemy to suffer a complication story even half as negative as mine was.

I Need Help Please!
iggychic replied to jewels1227's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I drink the ones from costco (Premier) as well as Ohyeah which I think I ordered online from GNC (free shipping typically). They're both lower in sugar and carbs and yet have 30g of good protein. I can only drink them cold myself, but early out, there's always the option of cutting them with milk if you have issues with the thickness (which I did for some odd reason). -

Trying To Advance Too Quickly
iggychic replied to Scotty75's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks daisy. And Alex didn't pull the thread y'all. I asked him to take it down because the good doc was threatening a law suit against the site. I didn't want my issues with him to affect the forum. Alex made it my decision though! -
I Need Help Please!
iggychic replied to jewels1227's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The amount you need is different when healing, and changes based not only on height but weight. My goal now during healing is 58g's (I'm 5 foot nothing by the way) which I round up to 60 for easy math per the NUT's instructions. But my goal after the weight loss period will be 50g's given a height of five feet and a weight of 110. I'd call your nut or doc and ask what you should be doing at this point...but also advise you do a shake at lunch if you can't eat. Your comment about not making good choices so you chose not to eat at all kind of worries me about long term success. I think you should take a hard look at yourself and make a real effort to eat something for lunch. Skipping meals leads to over eating later (yes you aren't doing it now but you're building a very unhealthy habit). Skipping proper meals is what sends out body into bad cycles, feeling it needs to over compensate when we do offer it a little food, leading to....you guessed it, weight gain, even when we are taking in lower calorie bases. -

It wasn't worth the risks and the pain. I would never do it again and will likely always feel great guilt about having done it. -
Week 4 And Ended In The Hospital :(
iggychic replied to hopeful77's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I still regret it I'm alive, and heck I'm losing weight, but there is long term damage for me to contend with for a few years which kind of peeves me off. You're not alone. There are many of us out here. I felt very alone when I was going through my struggles and the one thing that helped me most was to come here daily and journal my situation (it's no longer on line because it caused the doctor such stress). The support that the folks here gave me made me stronger. That said...I am a VERY TOUGH woman. I have dealt with huge personal tragedy and I am always a rock on the outside (I hide the rest) so no one recognized the blabbering idiot that was me in the hospital. I was in terrible pain, as you have been, and while someone who hasn't been down the road might say a month is just a bump or isn't bad...let me tell you, every day you get more broken down until you start begging for anesthesia when they come to help you to the bathroom. (ok I didn't do that but I did ask for it for a blood draw LOL) It's hard to be physically pushed past your limits so I read stories like yours and just want to try to lift you up a bit. I hope you are getting near the light at the end of the tunnel. One thing I didn't do, and you (any anyone else suffering issues needs to do) is listen to your instinct. If this goes on much longer you'll be in bad shape, so don't let it. I'd agree on the J tube being a last resort (I preferred TPS frankly) but take the step if you have to. Keep in touch and if you need to scream, do it online or they might call in the psyc docs (ok maybe that was just in my case)
