    Pardon my bluntness...

and just to be clear...I've had popcorn i just waited til the doc said i could
  2. costco has a great prenatal gummy Vitamin (that qualifies as a general vitamin). They're little sugar coated square shapes and they actually taste good. I take two a day. Thanks for reminding me...I'm almost out LOL
  3. So going out for a big piece of cake is out of the question?

    Pardon my bluntness...

Common sense and intelligence are two different things. You can still be a rocket scientist and lack common sense. Or you could be Sarah Palin and lack both...

    Pain...

You're only one day out of some pretty heavy pain honey. I'd keep the meds up for another 24 hours, then cut to a half dose on the same schedule and see how that makes you feel. Then after 24/48 of that, try skipping them and see how you do. It's a better pain management schedule than cutting them off cold turkey. You still have the injury, you just can't feel it It's kind of like the psyco patient who quits their meds because they don't have any episodes while on them.....quitting just brings the crazy's back! Give your body time to heal

    Pardon my bluntness...

Their body does not need popcorn any more than my body does. That's a nice cop-out but the docs aren't prescribing so little food that you are going to die. No one "needs" a cookie to survive. You do have foods you are allowed which can sustain your life quite well.

    Protein bar recommendations needed

Anyone mind if I ask when you started eating Protein bars? I had an oh yeah one at about ummm ten weeks or so (allowed by nut) and it was the first food I've eaten that made me vomit and slime so I've avoided them like the plague. But I'm finding that getting in my protein is tough for me, even with a shake sometimes so I probably have to suck it up and try again. I'd love to be able to carry a bar in my purse or car but I wonder if I'm just trying too early... I don't tend to do well with sugar anymore, which could be why I had trouble with the bar way back when. Anyone else have this issue???

    Pardon my bluntness...

Stef I like you LOL And your comments are SPOT ON! It's not cheating when it's post op. It's Russian roulette. Those bites can cause you unbelievable pain and lead to death if you're not lucky. I am post op. I had a leak, not caused by stupidity, or at least my own LOL (I'm not giving the doc a pass on that he heh). As Tra?? mentioned, I have babies to return home to and for me, I was taken away from my baby because of the severity of my complication. That was hard. More than I can explain, but I can't imagine how that would have felt if I had caused the issue! Yes people have addictions, but if they can't get them under control prior to the surgery than they shouldn't have the surgery. It's too risky! So I respond to those posts and often get beat up. I'm hated by half the posters and I think liked by others, but I don't care. What I care about is seeing that no one suffers what I did due to a stupid choice on their part. I have a feeling you and Traj? (last poster LOL) won't be in that group. Keep that sanity, and even healthy fear of breaking the doc's rules with you alive and well and you'll do fine. I wish you both the best!
  9. you're a knockout woman! nice work.
  10. My preop was two weeks in which I had to limit my carbs to 40 per day. That's the entire program aside from no food after six the night prior to surgery. I'm sure you will be just fine as you likely didn't go over that number so your liver did have time to shrink. The warning about going to open surgery is standard to ALL patients getting laparoscopic surgery. Sometimes things go wrong or there is scar tissue etc, which require the doc to change your surgery in an emergency situation. A subway sandwich won't be the cause of this For those who do cheat presurgery through, the chicken was a good cheat, but the bread on that sandwich was not. So if you are tempted towards trouble, think chicken breast or good cheese, not bread That will keep your carbs low which is the way to shrinky dink a liver.

Leak Survivors - A Little Help!

Oh about the dye test. For the poster asking. There are two tests done, one is the most common, being a barium swallow test. Barium is a chemical that can be seen on xray, which is being taken live while you are drinking the Fluid. Barium is either a white chalky fluid (which is more commonly given to babies) or it is added to another chemical for contrast and it tastes like the bitterest orange rind you have ever bitten into. For still tests they do also use a CAT scan, mostly to find pockets of leaks or fluid in your body. For that a contrast dye is either drank, added to food (for an infant) or injected via IV (which I had). It is an odd dye in that you can feel it flowing through your body. It makes you feel as if you've wet yourself (you don't) but that's the most clear description I can give you. Life you got dipped in a pool of hot Water.

Leak Survivors - A Little Help!

Kapo your comments are spot on. I have two dear friends, one with luekemia and another with lung cancer. Both have always been thin and healthy. The lung cancer victim does not and has never smoked. I lost a coworker to cancer a few years ago. He was thin and healthy other than a little cancer. I actually can't think of an overweight person who I know who has cancer....I'll have to think, but really, none come to mind. In addition, almost everyone I know who has heart issues could be described as a 50 year old white man in moderate to good health. Being overweight significantly can tax your heart, but my grandfather and great grandfather, who both lived to 100 were overweight and eventually died of phenominia (which I can't spell). There is no "thin is healthy and fat is not" when it comes to either of those situations. As to the stint questions, I just wanted to answer with a brief answer since my experience is so much different than most. For my repair they used a tool called "The Claw" which is new technology. I did not have a stint nor drains nor antibiotics. We discussed a stint but my surgeons didn't like them because they cause so much discomfort to a patient for an extended period of time. I knew going into surgery it was a possibility, but was happy to learn I didn't get one when I came out!
  13. Gad we are all sick comedians! I actually almost went into comedy...but that's a long sad story for later... Liz I'm so glad the meds are helping. A little progress today, more tomorrow, rinse and repeat please! The chichu...how do you spell that dog name? Anyhoo, that cracked me up. When I was home after surgery my dog (coton de'tulear) my cats (3) and the nanny's chichuwawawawa all would snuggle up with me in bed, all day long. They were the only beings who were happy with my illness LOL And that sweet little wawawawa (Monty) was the best company. He'd snuggle under the covers and just cuddle me. He still does when we dog sit I now am thinking of getting one for DH (I am a self professed non dog lover...despite the fact that our dog thinks I"m his mom). Don't tell I'm softening to them LOL My cats will chew off a toe or something! We went to a movie tonight. Lincoln. Great movie...don't want to give it away, but it ended badly. Ba dum dum

    Pain...

Two thoughts strike me...well maybe three First, don't jump for joy take it easy silly girl so you don't end up in the same boat...or bed again. Second, it's nice to know you are feeling better Third, you have a pool table in your kitchen? Sheesh and I thought my kitchen was big.....
  15. LMAO you dork No more SNOW either heh heh Are you feeling any better after resting a bit? After I finally got out of the hospital I was so anxious to feel "good". It was hard to be so weak and frankly useless after being super mom I didn't break any rules, but I did go for a walk one day (which I was allowed). Unfortunately I felt I should walk down town (I live in uptown). Between the end of that walk and home is a long steep hill which I thought I'd do fine on. After all my 70 year old mother can do it so why can't I? Girlfriend, I had to call a friend to take me home...we are talking a block to maybe a block and a half! I know what it's like to just feel like you're "good" again It's such a nice feeling...til it smacks you in the arse (tummy etc). Take care of you and try to avoid the entire weather and animal kingdom for a bit heh heh
  16. LOL Gad I didn't even notice the date!!! Obviously I was asleep when I posted heh heh
  17. c section was a 5 maybe, first surgery (sleeve) was a 15 that went up to a 20, second repair surgery I'd say a 7 that quickly went down to a 2 or 3. I had a neck injury in the sixth grade that left me with a permanent head ache until I was in my 20's so I have a pain threshold that's very very high. My husband knew something was wrong when I started taking pain pills after the first surgery. I just don't take the stupid things ever because I hate how they make me feel. That should have been a hint huh?
  18. muhahahahahahahaha no one can stay in a funk when we're around!!!!! (can you imagine the pain I might impart with a personal visit heh heh)
  19. My first advice would have been to call the doctor, so good for you there hun. As to the weight restriction, mine was ten pounds for six weeks. That may be conservative, but I also never had pain like you are having from likely having done too much. And the horse...honey a quick jerk could do you a world of bad so try to avoid that type of activity for a while. It really does sound like you overdid it and are suffering the consequences. The thing to do now is to really listen to your body. And your doctor If the pain gets worse, get your bumm into the doc. If you see fever (low or high) or have left arm pain, nausea, generally go downhill instead of getting better, get in and have a leak test just to be sure. As to the pain pills...darling I hate the dang things! HATE THEM but when you have pain you should consider how much you can take. I personally would try to skip them during the day but use them at night so that you can get a good nights rest as rest is so important to healing. In addition, if the pain is affecting your ability to get in your nutrients or Water, than take them during the day, but feel free to cut the pill in half if you don't want the entire groggy feeling they might give you. Nap frequently if you are in pain so you can rest your body as well. Take care and maybe no more dolphin and horse shows for a bit huh????
  20. You are doing wonderfully. I bet you're feeling pretty good too
  21. If we need to post a joke of the hour we will (that's a warning cuz I tell really bad jokes). Here's a bit of how that would go.... Why did the monkey fall from the tree? Long pause.... Longer.... Longer... "Why" says Liz? Cuz he was dead! Hilarious laughter on my side....silence and a very funny look on your side.... Ya that's pretty much how this is going to go Liz...that's my GOOD joke! So defunk NOW! heh heh

    Pain...

Glenda, you are fully within your rights to tell the PA that you will not speak with her again and you INSIST on speaking with the doctor. You should do this now hun. This is not appropriate patient care. She has little diagnostic training verses her physician who has significant training in that area. Tell her in no uncertain terms that you wish to speak with the doctor. If he's busy ask that he call you at his earliest convenience but don't elaborate further. You have to be firm in this hun. If you can't do that, have your spouse do it for you.
