Gallbladder Surgery 11 Months After Sleeved! Question?
Fiddleman replied to PJ713's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What really leads to having the gall bladder removed? I eat a very high protein diet and am wondering if this is going to be a problem with the gallbladder eventually. I eat up to 125 gram a day and am about 2.5 months out. -
Honestly, after 2 months post op I still really enjoy having the nectar and matrix brand of shakes. I do not care too much for the fruit flavors (one of those post op taste changes), but the "sweet" flavors, such as vanilla bean, chocolate and Oreo, are very good. Usually I have a shake made with soy and green powder mix for breakfast ( not as bad as it sounds; you get used to it), a shake mixed with water for 3 pm and a shake mixed with water at bed. My total protein intake ends up being around 125 gram a day if I do not miss any of the 6 meals(approximately every 3 hours). Sometimes it is more around 100 grams because I miss a snack or am unable to eat something with about 25 gram protein for a main meal. I do not eat much else besides the proteins, sometimes some veggies if I have room. The protein at night is important because it keeps the metabolism going into the night. I usually have extended release protein because it will give me up to 5 hours of food for metabolism. Always eat a good source of protein for breakfast, right when you get up. All this protein really helps drop the lbs with a relatively easy exercise program ( walking up to an hour a day) I was planning on starting weight training this last week, but had a nasty cold ( today I think is the last of it). Another bonus from the high protein, low carb and low fat diet is the body is really shaping up ( in 38 size pants that are getting lose where pre op I was struggling in a 46 size). No hanging skin anywhere too. I am down almost 90 lb in 10 weeks - about 70 lb to go. Sometimes i will lose 3-4 lb a day, but average is about 1 lb a day. And there have been stalls: 3 so far. The best thing to do with a stall is just to keep on program and wait it out. There is no need to give a stall any headspace because it will end no matter what. You may break it with something extreme, but usually this will not be the case. Your body will be more cooperative with you if you keep stress low and sleep enough. Sorry if i am rambling on. Good luck.

This is kind of off topic (maybe is isn't). I am a developer and trying to come up with a useful app idea. Is there any app that does not exist for people like us ( fellow sleevers)? I plan on creating something in my free time for both android and ios devices (iphone and ipad). The key goals are for it to be unique, be very useful to a lot of people and easy to use by all. A secondary goal is to make some money from it, but again, that is secondary sice this is only a hobby project outside if my daily dev job. All ideas welcome. What would be helpful for you as a sleever?

I've never heard of sprouts store. Is there one in Seattle or Everett area ( or smaller cities around there)? -
Sugar Free Hard Candy After Sleeve?
Fiddleman replied to SleeveShelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@gmanbat, I had a really good laugh at that one. Since surgery I have not had any sweets (sugar free or otherwise) or fried anything. I did this for 2 reasons: so not to encounter any more discomfort then i have to and i would probably slip down the slippery slope back into old habits. However, every one is different and will have their own path to the same goal - to be healthy. Good luck to you. -
Praying for you here.

All Food Feels Like It Its Stuck In My Throat And Chest
Fiddleman replied to sabrinalild's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not just eating too much will cause the "stuck" feeling, but also eating too fast. And never chase this feeling with liquid of any kind. I did this once or twice and it causes a terrible pain in the stomach area because I think there is just too much food to let the liquid through and doing so puts even more pressure on your stomach area. I did it my mistake( it used to work pre op) and never again...good luck! -
@ljparez: yup, slimes are caused mostly by solid foods because liquids can just pass through. I never get them with liquids or even shakes. Usually i start getting the hiccups and i feel food in my throat. Then i am off to the sink to spit it out. Sometimes it leads to food coming up, but rarely. Usually it is my fault due to fast eating or a couple bites too much. It is usually over in 10-20 seconds(the amount of time to get to the bathroom and spit). Good luck.

I found that after you know what to buy, Amazon prices are superior especially if you buy a subscription to something. Sites like my bariatric pantry are good for learning about product choices. On Amazon, you can also look at what other products people have bought based upon the product you are currently looking at. And nothing beats free 2 day shipping as an Amazon prime member...

Weight Gain Right After Surgery
Fiddleman replied to Threetimesacharm's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gained about 17 lbs after surgery from all the IV fluid over 5 days (yes, i had a couple issues). I was pretty surprised when i weighed myself on day of discharge, but then again it was really great to be going home. It took about 2 weeks to lose it all. -

How Did You Feel The Day Of Surgery?
Fiddleman replied to fallingwhisper's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was having o2 level issues (at 70% at lowest) for about 4 days, and spent 2 days in icu. The doctor was not really clear on what caused it, but it was probably related to anesthesia. The hospital gave me a little device to build up my lung capacity (only needed for about 2 weeks post op total). I also could not eat or drink anything for 3 days post op because of very bad pain after every swallow. Both issues went away by 1 week. Overall, post op has been great after the first week and am down 85 lb after 10 weeks. The surgery gas took about 3 weeks to go away, but to this day, i still get a lot of bloating and gas. I do not use gasx for it, but may start. -
How Much Walking Is Everybody Doing Post Op?
Fiddleman replied to tamjo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I walk somewhere between 2-4 miles a dog with my dog. He loves all the walks he is getting since post-op. -
Mine disappeared too after about 1 month. I found in general the face really shapes up well after the surgery and after not very much time. Now if only the stomach would disappear completely ( so far lost 10 inches in about 10 weeks- averaged out. 8 inches to go). Good luck.

Well I'll Be Darned...

Great job on achieving your goal! -
I would say chicken is also the worst protein on causing slimes, probably because it is so dense. I used to get slimes all the time up to about 2 weeks ago ( currently about 10 weeks post op), but not so much any more. It is not really as bad as some of the previous posters have stated. It is basically extra saliva in your mouth. I think it is not happening any more because i am finally receiving the proper signals that i am done eating, even though still only eating 2-3 oz per serving. Good luck.

The children's menus are never healthy and always full of fried things. I never noticed this until after the surgery. I don' t get this? Is fried food all children will eat nowadays? I don't remember being like this. Go figure! Even though i have the card, i rarely use it. Most waiters give me a bewildered look and are not very helpful. So i end up picking something high in Protein off the menu. Sometimes my wife will share with me, but most of the time not (future sleever). Do not vet me wrong, she supports my food choices 100% post surgery, but she still wants to eat what she desires. Lol. If there is too much for me ( usually the case) i just eat 3-4 oz and save the rest for another time. This approach usually works really well, prevents waiters from being pulled out of their routine and gives me complete and utter power to control my own eating habits and choose food that works for me. Good luck!

Yeah, I had a cold for the past week also. Nyquil did help at night, but not so much during the day. I remember the first time i took it this last week. It burned going down and then kind of lit my empty stomach up a bit. Not too bad, but the 10% alcohol gave me some good sleeps. Good luck!

I am wondering if there are any comments or observations on being sick after getting the sleeve. Since reading VST a couple months ago, I have not seen this topic come up. I had a 5 day common cold (no more nausea than normal) before today and will probably be over it in a few days. It wasn't too bad, but there was a day when i had 102.5 temp for about 1/2 day. Is there anything we should watch out for? I felt really wiped out so reduced exercise to just walking with my dog. I still pretty much ate same foods, but didn't want spicy meat at all (not normal for me!). Thanks in advance for your comments.

Sick And The Sleeve...
Fiddleman replied to Fiddleman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for your responses. They are very helpful and are in line with my experience (not hungry, completely wiped out, etc). I hope it ends soon because getting the high fevers for multiple days now is no fun. -
I forgot to say in the last post i am about 9 weeks post op and do eat solid proteins for lunch and dinner.
-
I need a "chewing for dummies" book! Never had been good at eating slow and still am not able to do it. Do you have any suggestions for people like me? I slime probably 2x a day and sometimes am in such a state of uncomfortableness. I think my fast eating stems from college and early years in the workforce. It was go, go, go all the time. Now that i am mid-age these are super hard habits to break, even once!
-
Yes, i have 3oz some protein for lunch (usually chicken), 3 oz some protein for dinner (chicken, salmon, beef). I also go out from time to time and order something that will work protein wise ( red robin, olive garden, famous daves, whatever). I try and mix things up a little, but do minimize carbs(no fruit, some veggies, no bread). I became lactose intolerate so drink soy with shakes. The vanilla soy lite is awesome with oreo flavored shakes. Calories are prob around 600 a day, but don' t count. I mainlt try and do the 80-100 gram protein a day and 100+ oz of water.
