Dr. Ross McMahon. I have nothing but the best to say about him and his team of medical professionals during the entire pre op and post op phases. -
ordered my first white wine
Fiddleman replied to Fiddleman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Now that it is morning, I want to summarize my first fine dining experience post op: 1. One glass of wine is enough to get really intoxicated. It lasted about 45 minutes before wearing off. I sipped it before eating. I could experience all the "full" flavors of the fine white Chardonnay. 2. Two glasses was too much. I only got 1 sip into it and my body said " no." I wasted the money on the second glass, but at least I know now. 3. Had a nibble of bread for first time. No issues. 4. Had a small bite of spaghetti. No issues. 5. No hang over in the morning. Feel fine. 6. lips are slightly burning. I do not know if this was from wine or not. Anyone know? 7. Had 2-3 small spoonfuls of my wife's dessert ( some round chocolate ice cream scoop with chocolate powder on outside). No issues. First "sweet" since surgery. No issues. 8. No weight gain in the morning. In fact, down 2 lbs. it was probably from waking up my metabolism from all the new food experiences and lots of dancing and jumping around at the Muse concert we went to last night (by the way, most awesome concert, epic). Maybe it was from my 5 mile run yesterday. Don't know. I am going to run again today perhaps even further (training for upcoming race). 9. Only had room for about 3 ounces of veal Parmesan after the pre dinner wine. Rest of it was put on ice for future meals. Overall, sleeve was ok with wine, bread, spaghetti and sweet dessert. No rejections, but a little slime after done eating and some uncomfortable cramping for a couple hours. Feel fine today except the slight tingly feeling on my lips. Eating at the Italian resteraunt was completely worth it for the fine food and drink selection. It won an award for Best Italian in America for 2012. Would I drink wine, eat Pasta or dessert again? Probably not. I didn't enjoy it as much now as I did 2 years ago when dining in Roma. It was good for me to at least find out if I would enjoy it or not by taking a small bite of each. What a night for "first experiences" as a seasoned post Sleever! -

First glass went down perfectly fine. Intoxicated about 30 seconds later after starting first glass. Took about 7 minutes on the glass. Second glass only got a couple sips. No worries though, I ran 5 miles today. First time ever breaking every...single....rule. lol. -
Cool, I got 5 miles in today enjoying the run at 5.4 mph. Still waiting for my energy squares from nuts.com so I can run further.

Nope, only made it a few sips into second glass before feeling sick. To the rest room. Ah, but it was worth it. The white was a delight along with the few bites of veal parmesan -

WHAT TO TAKE FOR THE FLU
Fiddleman replied to SeriouslyChange's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What about for intense pain? Would you use oxycodone, hydrcodone or some other narcotic for that? Or would you use a homeopathic equivalent like kava kava (anesthesia properties may be too mild for intense pain) -

Yes, I have heard of this approach too. My MIL, who is a retired RN, also swears by taking a certain ratio of ibuprofen to echinacea at the first sign of symptoms. I did not have any echinacea at the time, but probably would have tried this if I had some. -

WHAT TO TAKE FOR THE FLU

They claimed if I did not meet all the symptoms then tamiflu would not work for me and I would be taking it away from someone who "really" needed it. Pissed me off. So I had to downright suffer for a week with immobilizing symptoms. I have been with the same clinic for many years. -

What is XL-3? Maybe it would be good to use for next year. -

I hope you feel better soon. I too had the flu last week and it had to be the worst ever. Most of the bad symptoms are gone today, but still dealing with cough and lower energy level. My doctor would not prescribe Tamiflu over the phone, so I hauled myself into the office. I had taken some tylenol before going, so my temp lowered. I did not have a high enough fever so he would not prescribe it. Argh! Let me tell you, my fever was plenty high over the next few days. I felt absolutely horrible for about a week. This week I am feeling better. I used mostly tylenol, alcaseltzer (sp?) cold and flu last week. I am using robbitusin (sp?) cough this week. I hope you feel better soon. -
6 month appointment

I had my 6 month appointment yesterday with an AARN. Basically she said all blood work is good and weight loss is astounding. I actually have way to high levels of b12 so can stop taking it daily. However, my BMI is 29 and my fat % is 22. What gives? I thought my BMI would be lower given my fat % is pretty good at 22%. Any thoughts? The other good outcome from the meeting is we actually talked about some concrete goals for the first time. It looks like I am getting pretty close to where the surgeon wants me to be, about 15 more lbs. Some others have commented I should not lose any more weight as-is, but I would like to at least hit the doctor goal. However, I am afraid the dr goal is going to make me look gaunt and sick looking, bones popping out everywhere in my face shoulders, arms, etc. What do some of you do when faced with this issue. I am still losing, especially when I run every other day during the work week. My vst avatar is about 2 months old so it does not reflect exactly how I look now. Will update it soon.

It is just strength training lingo. There are a lot of good books out there like Mens fitness book of muscle, body for life, etc that explains all this jargon.

The 500 lb limit might only be on commercial or upper end home models. When I was looking for a treadmill, I wanted it to have a high maximum weight because I was heavier at the time and did not want my weight to be a concern for the motor. Again, Craig's list is a good way to find really good treadmills for big discounts.
