    Starting yoga pre-op

If I can do it, then so can you!! Enough said. My flexibility was/is downright horrid, but it is getting better now the more I practice, the more I stretch in yoga or cross fit stretching. You can do it! Put yourself out there !

Interesting perspective on how your analysis points to Christy or his researcher did not do their research. Not good or bad, just an interesting analysis! Thanks.

    Slider foods

Yeah, mike : you are amazing with salad. I am impressed. My slider food is popcorn so I stay away or only eat on occasion like once a month. Chicken is between 3-5 oz for me.

    Sashimi--what stage?

Sashimi is basically raw salmon right? You may be able to eat this during purée stage. I started eating canned wild salmon from Trader Joes on my 3rd week (purée). In fact, if I recall correctly, I mostly ate canned salmon during the purée stage with protein shakes.

Really, who knew? I was just looking at him in the news yesterday thinking how WLS would benefit him. I am happy to hear he has taken a positive step in getting his weight under control. He will be a good example for the citizens who look up to him in NJ and other places. Politics aside, I like his approach to whatever position he takes, very strong and assertive. It is interesting to read the last quote in the article "...even if I don't give a crap about myself." Is that not how we all felt (or at least some of us) before getting WLS? I certainly felt this way. We gave up on our self image as a result of our struggle with our health. As the weight comes off, we start to have a much improved self image. Kind of disappointed that HIPPA did not protect his medical procedure from the public or even from the media in this case. Very tasteless of the media to violate HIPPA. How would you feel if the same thing happened to you? For one, there are grounds for a lawsuit. And two, someone is going to get fined or be brought to justice in some other way. Violating HIPPA is a big deal.

    Resetting the system

Good luck! I hope you are successful with it.
  10. I found out the Dangerous Dave from Dave's BBQ I like (once every couple months) has a little Pepsi in it. The carbonation from it does not bother me at all. Must be only a splash in the mix of rum, triple sec and other liqueurs. Not even sure how many calories or carbs are in it. Am not that concerned. It is a good drink for chewing the fat with my bro.

    NSAIDs does anyone take any?

I am post op month 10 and started taking NSAIDs at month 6. Take everything from ibuprofen to proxen to fletcher patch to etofenac. No issues yet. Surgeon gave me blessing after month 6. They really help with back inflammation issues. I do not take them so much anymore because high dose fish oil (3-6 g a day) has really been helping...ALOT. And I make it a point to hold good posture when sitting, standing, running and working out. This does a lot for me in terms of back discomfort.
  13. It sounds like you are having a rough time. Not good! Hope you feel better soon. In the meanwhile, you can get a PPI prescribed by your doctor (surgeon or PCP) to take care of the acid. You can also buy some PPI like Prilosec OTC in a store that sells pharmaceutical stuff. Not sure where you would find one in TJ though. Since you are newly sleeved, it sounds like your back pain may be gas pain or it could be something more urgent. Definitely keep an eye on it. If you suspect it is not gas pain, it would be wise to place a call to your surgeon. I remember all the aches and pains from week 1 recovery. The good news is that every day will feel a little better. Give yourself the time to rest and recover. Have your minions (e.g. Family) do things for you u til you have your energy and strength back when you get home. Good luck!

    hot weather running

I want to do some running today outside where temperatures will be between 80-90f. Here in Seattle area we are not used to hot weather so early in the year. A thermal low is going to settle in for a few days keeping the mercury up in the 80s. My course is 8 miles of flat running on a local popular trail called the centennial trail. This trail is very well maintained, paved and wide. I usually walk on it for miles and miles, but want to run on it for my 1/2 training. The literature says while running in hot weather is possible, it put a lot of strain on the internal systems. Oxygen and nutrients are directed away from the muscles causing them to slow down. And your core body temperature rises fast. I also need to research a hydration belt so I can more easily run with wanted and refueling supplementation or energy squares. What kind of hydration belts has been working for you? How do you guys run in hot weather? What do you carry with you for hydration and refueling?
  15. Maybe it is a self defense mechanism! The more we openly talk about food, the more objective we can be about it and the less it effects us individually. Complicated Freudian analysis, huh? Lol
  16. I better start a restaurant thread now that we are talking about Thai. Indian buffets work this way for me too. The owner of a very nice Indian restaraunt in Mill Creek (named the Clay Pit or something like that) lets me eat off my wife's buffet plate. Love going there because the owners are really nice and the food is top notch (wins best in western WA award every year). I told them about my surgery and they said no problem, free of charge. It may also be because we have been eating there fora long long time before surgery.

    Desert nostalgia

Yup, frost is the home of the weird and experimental donuts. So strange people cannot help but buy and eat them. If you want something a little less weird, you walk across the parking lot to top pot donuts (apple fritters are even better in my opinion). If you want something cold and sweet, you walk to the other side of the parking lot and buy a gotta have it cold stone ice cream. Whatever you do, don't get trapped in the Bermuda Triangle of Sweetness. People have been known to get sucked in and never leave. Don't say I didn't warn you!!! Enter at your own risk!

    Best coffee drink poll

love the SB skinny peppermint mocha also! Too bad SB only carries the SF peppermint at Christmas time. I tried to order this drink in February and was denied. I had to improvise to something similar. SB does not even carry SF raspberry so I end up buying my SF mocha with raspberry from a local barista stand.
