How Easy Is It To Stretch Your Sleeve?
melbelinc posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know just one or two meals that are a bit too big isn't going to do it. But what if you are eating too much every meal. I don't know if I'm actually eating way too much or just eating things that are not making me feel too good. But it literally feels like its stretching. Granted this is my biggest fear, so I may be a little obsessed. I'm 3 1/2 months right now. I'm also in a colossal STALL! One that is not even staying the same but going up. My Dr office said I'm not eating enough, so here I am increasing. Geez Louise! -
Yeah, I'll vote if it ever stops! It started falling out right at 3 months and 5 weeks later its still going strong too. I would have to say I've lost at least 1/3 of what I started with. It's super gross. There is hair everywhere! and I have to clean out the shower drain at least 2 times every shower. Honestly, This was a huge reason I never wanted the surgery and put it off for so long. But I didn't think this was an issue with vsg. I know it is with bypass. Well I was wrong. I fellow hairdresser of mine put her fingers threw it today and was totally shocked. Anyway.... Moral of the story is that I am happy I did this hair loss or not. Oh, and Biotin, Do you realize how much of that stuff you can take everyday. It says 5 times a day! I need to really start taking it. It will grow back though. It will grow back.

48 Pounds Lost And I Am The Only One Who Notices?
melbelinc replied to Lucabelle1313's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'll bet people notice but don't feel comfortable saying anything. I have come across that several times. Some finally said something and then told me they weren't sure if they should have. People can be funny like that. -
I've personally felt things puke that when I over eat. Sadly I do sometimes. Usually when I'm starving and am just eating too fast. I also feel like crap if I don't chew enough. Esp meat. Maybe you ate something new and your tummy was mad? Lol. As for the time of the month stuff, I've been giving in a little. Not over doing but a taste or two has been satisfying. But I make sure I eat a Protein first or with it. So say I'm going to eat Chex Mix, I will eat a string cheese with it. If you want something sweet, try to at least do sugar free. Eat it slow and enjoy it! Now I don't exercise either. Oh btw, I'll be 4 months out tomorrow. Personally it is because I have a knee injury and pretty much can't. (Knee surgery booked for Oct 8th! Eek!). I too know that my weight loss would prob be more if I were exerciseing but it is what it is. As long as the scale is moving, I'm happy. It's slowed but I'm thinking it will probably slow more and that may be around when I can bring in the work outs. Hopefully will kick start my body at that point. But the bottom line you are doing AMAZING! Congrats!

4 Months Out, I'm Having A Drink!
melbelinc replied to crazyrai's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you want to watch calories and carbs... Flavored vodka and water. I love the Three Olives Loopy. It taste just like fruit loops. Sip slow. Personally, I will be 4 months tomorrow and alcohol burns my stomach. And I was quite the drinker. Beer and soda hurt too much because of the bubbles and air. But hopefully when I do go back my plan is the vodka and water. Also crystal light have those mocktinis, just add liquor! -
I'll Be 3 Weeks Out Next Week...can I Dye My Hair?
melbelinc replied to pdog's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a hairstylist! Yes you can. The hair falling out part is something that happens on the inside. Meaning, malnutrition, hormones, things like that. Hair color happens on the outside. I'm currently 3 1/2 months out and about 3 weeks ago mine started falling out. It's pretty awful. They say at about the 3 month mark. But I take pretty good care of my hair. But it falls out from the root, so I try to be gentle with it. -
Driving After Surgery
melbelinc replied to weight_no_longer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was driving the day after I got home! Oh, and I was sent home the next day. So 2 days after. I was barely on pain meds but even if I were, Loritab is like no biggie to me. I used to get them for cramps. Lol. -
Am I Really Losing Weight?
melbelinc replied to Seemebetter's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Go try on smaller sizes! But go to the stores you normally shop at. That way the clothes are made the same as you are used to and you will be able to realistically see the difference. I felt the exact same way. Go try some stuff on! -
10 Weeks Post-Op, Looking For A Mentor, Struggling, Pcos
melbelinc posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi! I am currently 10 weeks post-op. I'm having trouble with the everyday ups and downs on the scale. I'm looking for a mentor. Someone who can offer encouragement and advice. While I am probably doing well, I feel like it needs to be better. I have PCOS, which really does affect weight loss. Also I have an injury that prevents me from working out like a "normal" person. Even going for a walk, boy do I pay for it . (Thank you roller derby or my torn PCL, MCL and everything else wrong in my knee. Lol.) I am having surgery for it in the fall. But until then I feel like I am wasting all the "good early time". I am struggling with the mental part. Which is where a lot of the advice and encouragement comes into play. Things like, I'm afraid to eat very much (but I do) because I want to lose and am afraid of stretching out my sleeve. I feel like I am eating to much so I think I am stretching it out. See, mental. I'm having a hard time getting in my Protein, and most importantly I hardly get in Water. I never was much of a drinker during the day. But then theres more mental, I'm even afraid too much liquid is going to stretch it out. Geez, if anyone takes on this challenge, you've got your work cut out for you. Haha. But really I think more so i just need encouragement from someone that understands. I really don't have anyone in my life that gets it at all. Thank you so much to the person who can be there for me.- 8 replies

10 Weeks Post-Op, Looking For A Mentor, Struggling, Pcos
melbelinc replied to melbelinc's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Oh also exercise. I still don't do any. I am looking at knee surgery to happen about the 2nd week of October. So I'm looking forward to that even though I'm more nervous about it then I ever was with my wls. But I want to start pairing exercise with this because I even though I'm lighter, I still feel tired and heavy. I have no energy and I know its because I'm not very active. -
10 Weeks Post-Op, Looking For A Mentor, Struggling, Pcos
melbelinc replied to melbelinc's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi all! I'm so sorry I never responded after my original post. Update! 14 1/2 weeks post op down 55 lbs. So I have lost, 13 lbs in about 5 weeks. Well when I look at it like that it doesn't seem like much, but when I look at the big picture/number.... It looks pretty good! I think now that I can see the difference with my body and that the number is significant, I can look at it and be happy. My weightloss seems to be about 1 1/5 to 2 lbs a week. But I honestly don't look at that. I just keep an eye on my running total. I think one reason we get frustrated is because we are so used to seeing and hearing about people who has gastric bypass. We get that excellerated weightloss thought in our heads and when we lose it slower (slower in comparison, yet right on track for this surgery) it becomes discouraging. But remember all the reasons you chose this surgery verses the others. I'm going to assume many are like me and chose it because it is healthier. -
I miss beer! Lol. But my tiny sips kinda help. I get to taste it in my mouth but then when it goes down it burns and hurts. And that makes me not want anymore.
-
No more carbonation ever. I will say that I do take a sip here and there of mostly beer if someone is drinking it. More to taste things. But even those little sips (and I mean sips) hurt! Go ahead and try a sip and see how it feels. Hopefully it won't feel good and help kick the craving. But the air it puts in your tummy makes it hurts and they say it can eventually stretch it out. I don't think I could handle an actual drink of it. Hurts!

Trying To Find Protein
melbelinc replied to courtney333's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Peanut butter on an apple, Hummus with some crackers. Cheese with grapes. These are things m NUT suggested. Basically pair protein with any carbs. I had asked for ideas of protein that wasn't meat. I have been eating this combos for the last week and lost almost 2 lbs this week. I was super nervous because it was new things but as long as that scale is going down and I am satisfied.... I'm good with it! Check our The South Beach books. SOOOOO many ideas!!!! -
Thinking Of Postponing My Vsg
melbelinc replied to ljperez's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not a mom but that doesn't mean I don't understand. I don't think you should push the date. KEEP IT! If this is something that you want to do and feel that you need ( which I am assuming you do like the rest of us) then you need to do that. If you want to be a good mother then that means being around longer and this could make the difference of how long you are here. You have thousands of people here that are here to support you. I know it is not the same as your actual family but I know for myself that It is wonderful knowing there are people I can communicate with that understand what I am feeling and going through. Not only am I member if this forum but also of the Sassy Sleevers on Facebook. I love those people and feel like I have become friends with them. But I do feel strongly that you can be an even better parent when you feel good about yourself and your health. If you ever want a buddy Feel free to message me. I may not be a mom but I know one reason I did this is because I want to be one. So in a way, its almost the same thing. Not only doing it for yourself but for your family, present or future. -
While being scared is totally normal.... Don't be!!!!! This is the best decision I have ever made and something I wish I hadn't drug my feet doing, the same as you. I know that reading a lot the the treads and posts on this site can be frightening its only because people tend to post their struggles looking for advice and answers. I have noticed that most of them are in the first few weeks. I know I was reaching out a lot then too. But now I am still only 14 weeks and I have gotten past all of that. Yes, I stall what feels like every other week, but that is totally normal. Before I found this site I watched a lot of youtube videos and have made friends watching peoples every week videos. I loved going back and watching peoples stories from the beginning. I suggest doing that also. It made me feel really great about it and was nice to see that some people lost slower then others, which tends to be most peoples major frustration. Of course the weight does fall off of some too! Congrats on your decision and I wish you all the best of luck. This is the best decision I ever made, I hope it will be yours too!

Half way mark?

It is a physical barrier. The barrier prevents guys from being interested in me. I don't mean to sound cocky but I have a great personality. I'm super outgoing and smart. But the weight barrier makes it so no man cares. I don't say to have a pity party. It's just a fact. But hey, if any guys here are looking for something give me a jingle. Hahaha!

Drinking/eating Habit Breaking Suggestions?
melbelinc replied to Izuri's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh! I posted that video. LOL. I'm so glad others found it useful. Lately I have been trying to not drink while eating. I sometimes take a tiny sip just to wash it through my mouth, but overall I'm trying not to. It's hard for me because I don't think I like the feeling of full, but I am tired of getting hungry again so fast. so I am trying to eat with less drinks. One thing I'm doing is not even bringing them to the table. -
I personally am 13 weeks out and I still can't drink. When it hits my stomach it burns! It used to burn on the way down too but that has subsided. I still taste everyones drinks but I need to another drink to wash it through my stomach because it really burns. I don't know so much about getting drunk faster but I'm pretty sure its still going to be awhile before I find out.

"about Time" Whey Isolate Protein Powder
melbelinc replied to Jlewis229's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I was drinking the premade EAS shakes. You can get those at walmart. The chocolate one is so good. 17 grams of protein and 3 carbs. But now I ordered Pure Protein. They come is cans and have 35 grams of protein and 4 carbs. They are pretty good too. I ordered them from Amazon. -
From a Post op person, yup, its a problem. I miss soda and beer so much. But carbonation hurts. I guess it can over time stretch out your sleeve too. But aside from that, it hurts. Whenever I'm around someone drinking beer I always ask for a sip. It tastes good in my mouth but Not so good on the way down. The other day I thought to myself maybe I could drink a little bit of soda if I take teeny tiny sips. Diet pepsi. It was hot and that used to quench my thirst, but even the smallest sips still hurt on the way down. So overall I miss it, yet as soon as I taste it and swallow it, I don't anymore.
