Protein making me sick
bmbrush413 replied to boxergirl37's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had that issue with just about any pre packaged protein drinks. What works for me is the Syntrax nectar line. Fruit flavored ones can be mixed with water...I add ice. For the chocolate, vanilla and cappuccino flavors I switched to lactose free milk and that has helped. -
I was sleeved on 3/26 and I'm down a little over 28 pounds.

Hi! I was sleeved on 3/26 - same week! I'm down 27 pounds. We're off to a great start!

what have you bought for post op
bmbrush413 replied to tlah's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is so true... I need to use lactose free milk now - and I can't drink plain water for the time being. Protein sample packs are the best. I love the Syntrax nectar shakes - haven't found a flavor I don't like yet. I can't drink really thick shakes, and the fruit flavored ones are like drinking juice. I mix them with 16 oz of water and ice. They've been my saving grace. I get them from BJs Bariatrics - you can make up your own sample pack by choosing the flavors instead of getting stuff you don't want. Hope this is helpful! -
Awesome!

I'm about 2 1/2 weeks out - the thing that saved me were the Syntrax Nectar shakes. I got the fruit flavored kind that you can mix with water. Thick shakes didn't sit well with me at all. I used one packet with about 16 oz. of water and ice. Best thing ever.

Syntrax Nectar Protien Shakes
bmbrush413 replied to petra1124's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The Crystal Sky flavor is blue, but it tastes like fruit punch. My favorites are Roadside Lemonade, Fuzzy Navel, and Pink Grapefruit. The Caribbean Cooler was okay - tastes kind of like a pina colada. -
I'm gluten free for medical reasons, and was trying to eat clean pre-op. I definitely plan on keeping that up once I can actually eat again!!

1) Yes, it will hurt. You may be a baby in front of your dad - but that's temporary. My pain wasn't too bad - after about 3 days at home I was off pain meds. 2) If it makes you feel any better, I'm just over 2 weeks out and have already lost almost 28 pounds. I wouldn't worry about this one. If anything, this is what you're in the most control over. At first, it will come off fast - then you are in control from there out. Follow your food plan, exercise, and you'll be great! 3) Again - you are in control of this. You are the one who has to make the commitment to eat well and take care of yourself. 4) I highly doubt this will happen! It may take a while for you to see yourself differently. Some people have a hard time with that. I can already see a difference in myself, and I have a therapist to help me deal with the rest. 5) I don't know about this medically - but I've heard so many good things about this controlling diabetes. I'm not diabetic myself, so I can't answer from experience. 6) Your dietician/nutritionist will help you with this. They'll send you home with a plan, and if you have questions, call and ask! That's what they're there for!! 7) At the moment, I'm slightly cranky, but that's only because I can't wait for tomorrow - my follow-up appointment where they tell me that I can move on to pureed food!!! You found the right place for support and people to keep you on track. I can't tell you how helpful this site has been for me. You can do this!!!

When does this ketosis breath start to get better?? My mouth is so gross...and I hate those Listerine strips. Got some Altoids smalls. Wish I could chew gum... -
The Syntrax ones are my favorite. Got them from BJ's Bariatrics (online) because you can do a "make your own" sample packs and choose what flavors you want.

LOVE my Vitamix! One of the best investments I ever made!

Mangos are very fibrous...so are pineapples. Things like peaches, melons...those might be easier.

Between that and hiccups...ugh! I'm only two weeks out - hope it gets better!! -
We're all here for you! I'm two weeks out - it gets better!! Trust me! You should definitely find some support offline though - my therapist is great about talking me through all of the crazy feelings that go along with such a huge decision. Hope you find someone that helps you. In the meantime - we'll be here!

Think I'm coming down with something....suggestions please.

If your only symptom is freezing...I think a lot of us wind up feeling like that! There was a thread on here a couple of days ago just about that! Otherwise, Tylenol is fine - lots of cold/flu medicines come in liquid form if you need them. -
Are vitamins really necessary post op? Help
bmbrush413 replied to jose1973's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I think just about every person on here is on some kind of a vitamin regimen. I don't think it's humanly possible to get all of the vitamins/minerals you need with the small amount that we are able to eat post-op. I am on multi-vitamins, Calcium with vitamin D, and B-12. Do you follow up with anyone here in the US? I would check in with a dietitican/nutritionist about your dietary requirements based on what you are eating. -

Did your husband support your decision?
bmbrush413 replied to musiclover's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
My husband has been incredibly supportive of me in every attempt I have made to lose weight over the last 19 years... This time, it was a little harder. I was thinking about surgery a few years ago, and he was of the "easy way out" mindset back then. As things progressed, and he met with a therapist who was able to convince him that some people are just "wired" differently and need intervention to accomplish their goals, he began to see that this was really the only option for me. As I went through my pre-op appointments (6 months) he would continually encourage me - "One step closer!" "Keep it up!" Now that I am two weeks post-op and down over 26 pounds, he told me that he was talking to his dad just before my surgery and asked, "Do you think if I buy her a new car, she won't do the surgery?" He was so afraid something would happen to me. His dad convinced him that if this is what I wanted to do, he needed to just stand by me and support me - which is exactly what he did. I am so blessed to have him by my side - and we keep talking about being able to lead a more happy and active lifestyle together for many years to come. After all, that's what this was all about! -
