march sleevers the good and the bad
bmbrush413 replied to thriving1726's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Officially one week post-op today! I finally feel pretty much human again. Still some soreness, but no real pain anymore - except when I laugh. Found that out the hard way last night!! Still sleeping on my reclining couch - laying flat out or on my side isn't comfortable yet. Actually helps me avoid hubby's snoring. Still on liquids until my 3 week follow up on 4/12, so it's getting kind of tedious. Never thought I'd be jealous of people able to eat strained cream soups and puréed food!! I'm really just getting tired of sweet stuff. Broth is too salty for me - unless I decide to make my own, which I just might do today. I'm down around 13 lbs post op (didn't have a pre-op diet to follow) so I'm really happy so far. Just wish I could workout - I'm a Zumbaholic, so missing classes is killing me. I actually went and sat in on my usual Monday night class last night just to see everyone and hear the music. They were all so glad to see me - and it made me feel a little better. Was starting to get stir crazy in the house!! Hope you all are doing well today! -
I did the exact same thing - get up, walk, pee, pain meds, back to bed. I wound up staying an extra night because I couldn't get all my liquids in - but I couldn't have any until the day after. I only had one of those swab thingys. That was the worst!! I'm officially a week out today - this time last Tuesday, I was getting ready to leave for the hospital. I feel like a new person one week post-op...it does get better!!!

I have this stuff called True Lemon, True Lime, and True Orange - flavors water without sweetener. I found it near the sweeteners in the grocery store. Maybe that would help?

How much time should I take off?
bmbrush413 replied to stormy22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got approved for 4 weeks. I had thought I'd be able to go back after a week - but I was sadly mistaken. 6 days post-op today and I'm finally starting to feel human, but no way I could go back to work yet. I have a mostly sit-down job though. I'm hoping to go back next week (2 weeks). -
Save me a call to the Dr. please. Calcium carbonate vs: Calcium citrate
bmbrush413 replied to newat52's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Right now I am taking Wellesse liquid calcium (found it at the grocery store), but I also have Calcet chewables. They are the best ones I've found so far. Just in case you needed an idea! -
I was sleeved on the 26th...can't believe it's almost a week already! How are you all making out so far?

my foods, what's wrong...so frustrated..
bmbrush413 replied to GlendaLee's topic in Food and Nutrition
No - Splenda is Sucralose...still an artificial sweetener, but different chemical structure. I've been using True Lemon, True Lime, and True Orange - flavorings with no sweetener at all. -
Congratulations!!

I was thinking about ordering just the accessory package of the little containers...they're so darned cute! -
baby bullet or something like it?
bmbrush413 replied to Museum-Mama's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
There's one on Amazon for $59.00 - I agree that the little containers would be great for puree stage. I might have to get one myself! http://www.amazon.com/Baby-Bullet-Complete-Care-System/dp/B004V5BTUA -
What should i do know to prepare for surgery
bmbrush413 replied to Steveischanging's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh yeah - definitely loose pants... My most annoying incision is right near my bellybutton so everything has to sit well below the waist. And sugar-free popsicles have been my savior as far as getting my liquids in when I'm having a hard time drinking. -
What should i do know to prepare for surgery
bmbrush413 replied to Steveischanging's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good luck! I'm 6 days post-op, so I'm still really close to the front lines! Just a couple of things that I can think of... First, make sure you are learning to drink really slowly...sip, don't gulp! It will help in the beginning. Start your vitamin regimen now so that you're in the habit - and find ones you like with your dietician/doctor's approval. Also, try some different kinds of protein shake/supplements and have a variety around for after you get home. Make sure all of your laundry is done, clean and put away (not a huge pile like mine!!) before you go. Also, bring chapstick with you to the hospital. It's a godsend. If you're not a water drinker now, start. It takes a lot more than you think to get in 64 oz a day! -
Vitamins not staying down...
bmbrush413 replied to ..................'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I haven't been throwing up, but my multis haven't been sitting well. I take Wellesse liquid calcium with D, and also their liquid sublingual B-12. I was taking the Opurity multis, but they are just too big and acidic for me. I bought Flintstone Complete chewables and took 2 of them to come close to the Opurity stats. I am going to call my dietician to see what else I can do. My doc's office has said absolutely no gummies - I have a feeling it would be easier though. I know Wellesse makes a liquid multi, but I can't find it around here. -
2 days post operation.
bmbrush413 replied to lilmely08's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 6 days out and I feel like a new person today -just a little sore. Get up and move around, I took Gas-X chewables - not sure if they really helped or not. It will get better!!! -
My doc said to concentrate on fluids first, then the protein. Sugar free Popsicles have been my savior - 2 oz of liquid each. I can also do tea, which helps. Stuff that is too cold makes my poor tummy spasm.

Non NSAID headache relief.....
bmbrush413 replied to aprilj's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I also get migraines and take prescription Treximet (combination that contains naproxen sodium - aka Aleve). Doc said it's ok to take once in a while if I really need it because I'm on an acid reducer. Will try to avoid it if I can. -
If you're not sure, just call! At least that's what my doc and dietician said.
-
Do NOT take Xenadrine. I took it years ago when i was young and stupid. It was like someone put me on fast forward - heart racing, jitters, shaky - it was awful! There's really no reason to take any of that stuff. It will just do harm - no good.
-
Right now nothing "real food" even appeals to me. Hoping that will change eventually!!
-
I know my dietician isn't a fan of those protein shots because they have a form of protein that isn't as well absorbed (I think she said something about collagen?). Maybe too much solid food too soon? I'm on all liquids until my 3 week follow up, then puréed....

Gallbladder attacks
bmbrush413 replied to SleeveNZ's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc gave me anti gallstone meds to start taking right after surgery for six months just for that reason. I'm kind of surprised by the number of people whose doctors don't seem to be telling them about the higher risk of gallstones with rapid weight loss...really concerning to me. It seems to be causing people unnecessary pain and complications. -
I'm almost a week post op, and I can definitely sympathize. I don't think I have it as bad as you do though. I do sometimes feel like burps get "stuck" and I am still having a hard time drinking because it feels like I'm hitting some kind of a wall... Hope you and I both get past this soon!!
