I feel your pain. I am in the middle of a Master in Teaching program. we are now past theory and into actually producing lesson plans and teaching them!!!! I also have an interview next Monday for student teaching. Although in one way I feel I have gotten through the hard part-I know the hardest is still to come. However, I love the kids the best and as a future high school teacher I can hardly wait to actually be in class. PS-what is the recipe for that chili? sounds yummy!!

'Hostage situation' portrays killers as Christians
jono201 replied to leatha_g's topic in Rants & Raves
OK I may be wrong, but I feel the point of original posit was that Christian religions were being devalued ala happy holidays rather than merry Christmas. As in WHY ME??? When other people, like laurend gave intelligent arguments and examples to illustrate other points of view, the only thing others came up with is to pray for us so-called sinners. Well-do not pray for me cuz I am a humanist-from a long line of humanists and prayer means nothing but action everything. -
I was very tired until a few days ago. I am not sure what changed cuz I have been keeping my protein high and 800 calorie diet the entire time. After I spent time with my family, I think it is a fat thing. I really did not feel playing the jolly fat girl-I felt more serious. One of the things I noticed is that many people in my family (who never ever drink alcohol) are addicted to food-they eat it non stop, massive portions that have nothing to do with actual hunger. Seeing this from a new perspective made me think of my family members that have died because of morbid obesity, including my 34 yr old brother. At Easter, I watched my mother (and aunt) eat and I watched their eyes-it was like a hole neither could fill-they did not taste nor enjoy a thing. They are eating to die, rather than eating to live. They asked me many questions about my surgery, but most alluded to how much of a quick fix they believed the band to be (successful bandsters know that is hogwash). They want the band, but I think they have bigger issues than the band will solve. I trolled this site for months before posting and making a decision. I think if we eat to fill some sort of hole that you cannot recognize or acknowledge you should not have this surgery-you will be very disappointed. I feel so bad for those who have had a band for a year and are frustrated that they have only lose 9-20 lbs. I do not think they understand the tool factor of the band and neither does my family. Most of my family is well over a hundred lbs overweight with many of the medical issues that accompany obesity. Although I come from an extremely supportive family for whatever I do, the first words out of their mouths was that at 75-80 lbs overweight, I was not fat enough for LB. Well I just did not want to wait till I got high blood pressure and/or diabetes and had to have parts cut off by body like my father. Anyway, this started about my observations of my own family, but from reading 1000’s of posts, I extended my observations and I think if those of us having problems with the whole “I can still eat as much as I want thing” need to check out the old timers thread-LB is a tool, a great tool and I think some people spend too much time trying to trick the band rather than use it as it is intended. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p> <o:p> PS-as I reread my response I notice it has strayed far from isabellesma-sorry. </o:p> <o:p> </o:p>

Is that what the doctor told you to drink? Cuz there is not enough protein in those to keep a bird alive. You need a minimum of 60 grams. I drank EAS protein powder, but others have different stuff that is also good. There is something called whey protein shots which I have not tried, but wish I knew about before. I think there is another powder called Max50. Anyway, you might want to ask your doctor again, I think you need something more than slimfast.

What are you drinking? cuz if it is something like Slimfast You will not be getting enough protein to function.

'Hostage situation' portrays killers as Christians

I would have to agree with laurend. Since we live in Christian nation (of which I am so often reminded). It is only logical that most of the violence is Christian on Christian. -
Hardly unbiased--- Steven Milloy publishes JunkScience.com and CSRWatch.com. He is a junk science expert , an advocate of free enterprise and an adjunct scholar at the Competitive Enterprise Institute . (this info is at the bottom of the article) Nov55 is an html site which is not peer reviewed and basically a bunch of essays on his personal views. He provides few links to science in backing up his veiws. I would have my students think twice before quoting such a site for factual information. How about some links to .gov or .edu sites. If your answer is that you are just pointing out other points of veiw-fine, but if you are using these as examples as scientific findings disputing the the causes behind rapid GAC, I must disagree.
-
No Ron-There really is not two sides. Not if you base your arguments on true peer reviewed scientific studys. As you commented in a earlier post, in which an error was caught my another poster-It was not a scientist that Gore refused to debate, but a person who wrote a few essays. So until someone caught you, you were perpetuating a lie you misread and failed to critically analyze. Kinda like midlessly towing the party line. I recently wrote a lesson plan related to Global Atmospheric Change (GAC) and could not find a single unbiased fact based veiw that human actions are not responsible for the extremely high levels of C02. GAC began in the 1880's as a result of the industrial revolution. I would like to point out that the industrial revolution was a human action and not a part of the any natural climate influences. You might ask, how can they measure such changes that happened so long ago? Well one way is to anaylze layers of ice cores, simular to how past climate changes can be measured by the rings on a tree. Anyway-you might want to read closer when spreading untruths or skewed ideology.

Exactly-What is it about peer-reviewed science people do not understand? It is sad really.

GREEN WROTE: This question of energy consumption and its possible effect on global warming is an interesting one. Whether or not our behaviour is a cause of the current trend to the over-heating of this planet and whether we can now alter this state of affairs by reigning in our behaviour is moot. Certainly it is true that we can halt environmental pollution by amending our behaviour and this is a good idea. Afterall, this world is our sandbox and we do not want to turn it over to the next generation full of our shit, do we. Unfortunatly under the guise of conservative ideology certain people do not care about the future or as you so eloquently put it, a cat box full of poo that we will eventually leave our children. No matter why or what is causing it, global warming is a fact-it has been measured many different ways, by 1000s of experts in the field after years of peer- reviewed debate. Is it natural?-is it human conduct?, I have formed my opinion based on scientific facts as I accept them. Am I wrong? I would rather be a be a guardian of this earth and a person who takes steps now (today) then give children ( all children around the world) a box of poo. Would you all feel the same way if the info from Former Vice President Gore came from a person that shared your political views (admittedly, what I imagine those to be).

You are again the voice of reason.

I am still on the so called mushie stage and this has been my menu so far: Every docter is different, but I only had to have 48 hrs of clears, which was chicken broth. I had very watered (soyed down) cream Soup the night of my surgery. I used a spoon and ate it very slowy, about 1/2 cup. I ate very slowly (I practiced before hand) Protein shakes (not slimfast) and watered cream soup for the first few days. Remember-protein and Water as well as a Magic bullet are your friends. I was allowed to go on a mushie diet about 7 days later. However, unlike some people, for me that does not mean putting a pizza in my bullet. I have bought things like hummus and pate (only a little), but I have found it very filling. I also ate a scrambled egg which I topped with non fat sour cream to make it go down. I never thought one egg would satisfy me. I ended up not even drinking the nonfat milk before bed I had plan to drink. I am still a newbie, but I think keeping your protein up is very essential to keeping those hunger pangs away. I also think that this band is an awesome tool and many people seem to spend a lot of time trying to trick it. Of course talk to me a year from now and I might be the best trickster of all. Remember-protein and water. THEN I was

so long you two and thanks for all the fish. I will watch my consumption of resources as much as my lazy American life style allows. Thank-you very much.

Why is everybody so concerned about the steri-strips. I have given mine free rein and may even name them. I figure when they are ready to leave the nest they will-I refuse to get rid of them before they are ready. Gizmonz-welcome-I trolled this site silently for months before I decided to lapband. When it is 3:30 am in NZ what time is it here in the pacific north west (Washington state)? Posting at 3:30 in the morning is so rock and roll. I know I can look up the time difference myself, but I just got home from school and I refuse to look up any more answers to any more questions. Plus I need to do homework now. Cascadian you rock too-cherish your steri-strips, much healthier than chicken strips. Larend-I visited that other site-you know which one and I thank you for always injecting some sanity into an insane world. By all-homework now

When would one have it removed?
jono201 replied to rondajs's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Time for me to complain. I just spent the last 8 hours or so trying not to fart or burp in class. When does this darn gassiness go away!!! -
Go to the ER ASAP!!!

hi all-just checking in. My pain is all but gone and the doc said I can start mushies. I went and bought hummus, pate and that soft cow cheese. I also found out you can make steel oats in a rice cooker so I am going to do that tonight. If you put them on at night they are suppose to be nice and warm in the morning-we will see. I have not really been feeling deprived, in fact I think I need to get in more calories so I do not go into starvation mode. School starts tomorrow and I will be experimenting with things I can keep in my backpack that are good to eat. It sounds like we are all doing really good. the next habit I am going to try and break myself of is weighing myself everyday. I was 200 this morning but I am not going to update my ticker or weigh myself again til Sunday. Bye all and Thanks for all the support-this site is awesome.

you need to give it more time!! Every pain you described seems normal when I compare it to my experience. I have been banded less then a week and most if not all the pain is gone. I do have a high threshhold for pain and it takes a lot for me to get "whiney", I do not know if that is a good or bad thing. The only thing I almost whined about was the shoulder and neck pain, but it did go away after about 5 days. Actually today is the first day it has completly disappeared. Lots of people on this site say to get up and walk as much as possible, even if it is just around the house. I think it helped me. The only complaint I have now is the lingering gas-however I have heard this too will pass (pardon the pun). And remember-good things come to those who wait, also remember the band will not instantly cure years of bad eating choices. -
I had my surgery last tuesday and today I feel fine. I went to the drs, went to school and went grocery shopping. I did feel a tad tired around noonish, but I think it is because I need to up my calories-I have been drinking less than 800. I assume that taking in too little calories will make you tired and put your body in starvation mode where you do not lose anything. Anyway-I think it depends on your pain level directly after the surgery-I had a little the day after and felt even better after the prescribed meds left my body. Most of my pain was in my neck and arm Some people have more pain and take the meds longer. Also get up and walk as much as possible-even if it is just a few steps. Others on this site suggested that and I think it helped me get back into the swing of things faster.

I got the two mixed up-I like Dan Savage-I used to live in Seattle and I think he is hilarious and smart and his column is pretty funny. It was MIKE SAVAGE I was refering to, he is a person I have little respect for. Oops!!!

Hiatal Hernia and BMI 50+
jono201 replied to shoregirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
my surgeon fixed mine too-free of charge. -
do not forget a magic bullit and cream soups to whip in it. I thinned mine with soy milk and split pea has lots of protein too. A magic bullit or similar gadget will be your best freind for the next six weeks.

Oh---You will actually be heavier right after the surgery-it is bloat from the gas and all the IV liquids so be prepared. Most of my bloat is gone know and I am at 200 exactly.
