Heyher got a reaction from jsayles in Did anyone smoke after surgery?
Last post and I am finished with this thread.
I tried so hard to quit pre-op. Just look back at my posts. I really want to quit, but am I ready? Obviously no. It does make me sad that I, in a sense, "failed" at quitting smoking. But I'm not going to beat myself up, let someone chastise me, or sit back and let someone assume I am dumb because I still struggle with smoking. I'm actually very well educated. I am not old. Well I guess to some 30 is old, but not to me. The slow painful death of the English language is so sad to me. Facebook, texts, and tweets are eradicating complete sentences, proper grammar, sentence structure, and correct punctuation.
As for being a militant smoker, I have absolutely no clue what that means.
Possibly it was a misconception that I alway smoke while on a battle field, right after a battle, right before a battle, or some other ritual like that. I'm not in the military so not sure how that even came to be.
But I don't condone smoking. I won't bash people who smoke. And I hope the discrimination we all faced as obese persons will not transferred to the smokers. We all know how it feels to be sneered at, judged, ridiculed, mocked, and abused because of societies perception of what is acceptable. Why do we now think doing the same to those struggling with another addiction will help?

There are a lot of ways to quit smoking. Some are over the counter some are from doctors and so forth. What it comes down to is when that person is ready to stop. What is the one thing that will make you quit. Will it be a loved one who got cancer or maybe your child has asthma or maybe you are having a major surgery that requires you to. It is up to the person when they are ready. Most people who quit turn to food, after this surgery that option is no longer there until you are a few weeks out. Which in return will cause you to start sabatoging your weightloss. I use to smoke before I had my surgery, I realized my life is worth so much more than what I was putting it through (smoking, eating wrong foods and ect...) I had to make up my mind no one could do it for me. The more you put a person down the more defensive they will become and in the end they usualy end up overeating or smoking more just because someone said they shouldn't be doing what they are doing. I realy believe deep inside each and everyone of us is still that teenager that rebels because someone said we should not have done something. Just my 2 cents you can take it or leave it. But it's the TRUTH!

Good thing I'm not dumb enough (no offense) to misspell a vast majority of my post while calling people dumb.

I never thought I would be able to quit...I had tried everything and it didn't help that my husband was a smoker. My doctor wouldn't do surgery unless I passed a nicotine test, though. I finally tried Chantix and it really worked, even though I had to stop early due to nausea. I restarted several times at only one pill a day when I felt myself slipping....
I really wasn't sure if I would be able to stick to it after surgery, but when my recovery was so awful it put the fear of God into me (at one point it looked like I might lose my entire stomach) I realized that the danger of getting a serious ulcer was very real due to smoking. This could land me on TPN with a PICC line again (and I'm still not off of it as part of my recovery!). This awareness killed any temptation to smoke again, so I suppose I should be thankful.
To some posters, though, I'd encourage some compassion for smokers. Realize that non obese people view the obese as harshly as many do smokers. Just remember that there is a lot of naturally occurring pain in the world without adding to it. There is nothing wrong with protecting yourself from second hand smoke, either.

Thanks for the sentiment. I actually haven't had the steak yet but when I do I'm pretty sure it will go down easy enough. I did have more popcorn yesterday. It was delicious. I suppose all of us had the surgery for basically the same reasons. If your new eating habits don't include popcorn or steak - well great. I'm sure all of us wish you nothing but success in developing your new eating habits. Fortunately, some of us can incorporate popcorn and all kinds of other foods into our new eating habits with no difficulty. As far as rewarding ourselves with food, I think it's just terrible that you are unable to do so and I'm sorry that moderation in rewarding yourself isn't an option for you. Some of us can manage, some of us can't. That's why we do the best we can and try to refrain from thinking one size fits all as far as eating habits after surgery. Hopefully one day everyone can be moderate in choosing how to reward themselves. Until then, some will have their cake and eat it too and others will not.

Not true. Your doc may have, but mine did not. I came out just fine and I have lost over 50lbs in less then 3 months. So while smoking isn't the best thing, I imagine its better then coming home and shooting up heroin.
And please don't get holier then thou about smoking. My doc new I was using the patch to try and quit.
Also if you were to scream at me because I was smoking in a permitted area and my smoke blew within a foot of you I would get right back in your face. Would you like it if when you were overweight and someone screamed at you because your stomach almost touched them?
I don't condone smoking. All smokers know its bad. It's dangerous. But how would bashing and belittling someone ever help them stop?

Mine used a sewing needle instead of a garden hose or thimble. Am I in trouble?? Also I think I stretched it with my soda through a straw!! OH NO!!!
Did that cover the urban legends?
Mine is 34. But my stomach is not the same size as every other person with a 34. Because every anatomy is different.
God I hope I'm not sounding judgmental or hijacking the thread. I did talk about bougies.

Heyher got a reaction from Ms skinniness in tattoos
I have 12 right now. Where the tat is located plays a major role in how it's effected. Places like foot, upper shoulder/chest, leg, lower arm, upper back, ankle won't be as effected. Hips, stomach, ribs, butt, boob will be more effected. If you got it prior to weight gain it would have stretched with your skin. If its in an area prone to lose skin it won't bounce back as well and may have more of the deflated balloon look. If you got it after the weight gain, it might look more distorted.
