  1. Five months for me and 75lbs lost. Not super fast but not really that slow either. In five months I have gone from wearing size 20 dress pants to putting on a pair of size 8. I still have 25 to go and I'm slowing way down. But I'm okay with that. Even if I don't get to 150 I'm okay with that too. How I feel now is exponentially better then how I felt five months ago. If I make goal by a year that will just be icing on the cake.

    Digestive Nightmare

Thanks! With MS a lot of the times it's hard to pinpoint what caused a flare. I had surgery in feb and it didn't start until the end of may. The steroids make everything unappealing and taste bad. It's only temporary, but man it sucks. :-/
  3. I posted something similar to this when I was preop. I think that so many expect the weight to just melt off at a rate of 20lbs a month for 6+ months. I don't know of anyone who had those kinds of numbers on here. I lost about 60lbs in my first three months. 10lbs month 4 and 5lbs this month. I'm slowing way down as I get closer to goal. With only 25 or so left to goal, I know it's not going to be easy. But I'll take my 5lbs lost this month. Because that's 5lbs less. I would take 1lb a month loss because that would mean I'm not gaining. Early out in the first month or two when hormones are all out of whack, I think it is easy to go into a tailspin of panic that you will be the one person this doesn't work for. But if you are following the plan, then you will lose. Might not be at the pace you want, but a loss is a loss. Every ounce lost should be celebrated because that is one ounce closer to goal and one ounce less you are carrying around. It is hard in the beginning. But don't focus on how far you have to go. Stop and look at how far you have come!!! Look back at trying your shoes preop compared to now. Think about the waist line from your pants digging in to needing a belt. Post your NSV and enjoy every aspect of this journey. Don't be a slave to the scale. We can't get fixated on seeing our magic number pop up when we step on the scale. We need to focus on the journey so we can learn healthy lifestyles. That way the destination won't be so scary.
  4. Wow!! You look amazing! Congrats on all your success!!
  5. Went to the loft and bought 4 medium shirts. I haven't wore a medium ever. I am so happy!!! I'm down 70lbs and my BMI is 28.9 I hope to get down another 8-10lbs by Labor Day when I do my wedding dress fitting. Fingers crossed I can do it.
  6. Cheri, you look amazing!!!! Your posts are ones that I read and can relate to. You give insightful well thought out advise, and have been a sort of mentor to me. (Though you probably weren't aware) Your balanced and realistic views and approach to the weight loss and maintenance give me hope that I can do it to. Thank you so much for posting your advise and opinions on here and being someone newbies can look up to!!! We need more vets to stick around and show is what life is really like post sleeve. What work it really takes to be skinny and healthy. Thank you for sharing and congrats on the new baby and all your success!! You deserve it all!!!
  7. Just make sure the pup doesn't jump on your tummy. But after a week I was relaxing on the couch with a pillow covering my stomach and just did my best to keep them off.

    Need a Pep Talk...

You made it to onederland and you lost weight. I think that is reason enough to celebrate. It's difficult for us to not be so hard on ourselves. But when you start feeling that way, just think of how far you have come. How successful you would be at this point without the surgery. And how much better you feel today. And if that doesn't perk up your mood, just look in the mirror and tell yourself that you are one sexy beast :-)

  10. The first 4 months post op I enjoyed 70lbs loss. Now it seems as though I have just halted. I'm not complaining. I know to lose that much weight and get within 30 lbs of goal in such a short amount of time is nothing to snuff at. I am loving being in a size 8 pants and large tops. I am not giving up just because I have slowed down. Now is the time to focus and use what I have learned. I actually gained 3 lbs after a round of solu-medrol steroids. But that's okay I knew it could and probably would happen. Just need to get past these yucky side effects, and I should be back on track in no time. Probably losing a lot slower, but a loss is a loss. And everyone should be proud of every ounce lost. :-)

    Autoimmune Issues and VSG?

Solu-medrol doesn't mix with the sleeve too well. Make my tiny little tummy very upset...

    Autoimmune Issues and VSG?

My ms has decided to act up. Not 100% sure what caused it, but now I get to do steroid infusions. Oh yay....
  13. Has anyone added syntrax protein to coffee? If so what is the best way? I want to make a sort of iced mocha coffee, but not sure about the best way. Whey protein clumps when added to hot. So should I pour coffee over a little ice to cool it down, add mix, then top with ice?

    Calories

4.5 months out and average 1000 a day. Have been in a stall for a while. May try to drop down to 700 for a few days to see if that helps.
  15. I was pretty freaked out. They gave me the lovely "cocktail" before wheeling me back. I remember them singing and carrying on. Doc said "time to get started" and I freaked because I was still awake. Well for about 2 more seconds. I woke up in the or when they were moving me to my bed. Fell back asleep for a little while. Woke up in recovery and chatted with the nurses. Passed back out woke up in time to get wheeled to my room. Just felt so sleepy after surgery. Like I had stayed up for 48 hours and all I wanted was sleep.
  16. I got stuck at 201 for a little while. Seemed like my body was fighting getting into onederland. LoL!! After such a drastic loss in such a short amount of time, your body may just be taking a break to figure out what the heck is going on. Also remember that while lbs might not be coming off, inches might be. Soon you will get on the scale and the magical number of 199 will pop up.

    Autoimmune Issues and VSG?

I have been doing great. Was sleeved on 2/26 and down almost 70lbs. It is amazing how much better my joints hurt. Still have morning aches and stiffness from the fibro, but I don't think that will ever go away. I had a minor ms flare up in late may to eat June. But I think that's partially due to me not being 100% diligent with my Vitamins. An absolute must for autoimmune diseases. It is amazing how much weight loss can help improve symptoms. Not sure if there is any medical studies to back up drastic weight loss and improvement in autoimmune symptoms, or if this is sort of a placebo effect, but this surgery has helped me so much!!!

    Autoimmune Issues and VSG?

I have ms and fibro. So fatigue and pain are my norm.... But 4 months post op and I can say my energy is getting better and my joints are near as painful as they were pre op. Also I have noticed my migraines have occurred less frequently. Which is a true blessing. I am wondering if there is a way to get a forum dedicated to autoimmune sleevers. That way we can have a place to discuss the sleeve and how it has interacted with our autoimmune disease. I see a lot with RA, psoriatic arthritis, lupus, fibro, and a few with MS, and I think it would be a great place for us to share stories, tips, successes, ect. Does anyone know how we would request that?

    Stupid head

Thank you!! I have string cheese, cheese cubes, nuts, and other "approved" Snacks. So if I do slip and catch myself grazing, at least it won't be ice cream or chips. And I hope to keep it that way. Last night surprised me at how strong my desire to snack was. Being a binge eater, I never really was a snacker. Now that bingeing is no longer an option, it is amazing at how my mind has shifted so that I can get my"high" that is food. And the crazy craving to just snack on things I knew would slide right through (popcorn was sounding mighty nice) had me questioning how strong my will power really is. I was able to resist last night. But it really did open my eyes to how easy it can be to just mindlessly snack and how diligence will have to be my new middle name.
