This article addresses some myths about smoking. http://quitsmoking.about.com/od/nicotine/a/nicotineeffects.htm

WHAT??? I am a smoker who is struggling to quit. Third times the charm. Couldn't imagine STARTING after surgery. Smoking doesn't suppress appetite. It doesn't increase metabolism. There is SUGAR in the cigarette. Yup. In the tobacco, on the paper, on the filter. Ever wonder why it leaves that brown spot in the ash tray? It caramel. Literally burnt sugar. so how does decreased lung function with sugar spikes stimulate weight loss. That is such an outdated myth iris laughable. Nicotiene isn't as addictive as the habit or "ritual" of smoking. Those "cravings and withdraws" have the same exact sensation of hypoglycemia. So if they start, what will they replace the habit with? The only motion that mimics the act of smoking is, yes you guessed it, eating. All the bad toxins in the smoke... Sorry, but why the h-e-double hockey stick would someone use that as a weight loss tool? Take up Zumba or yoga for faster weight loss. Add in lots of water, and that is WAY better then inhaling tar, arsenic, sugar, and every other poison used in there.

I'm 5' 5" and 240. I wear a 18/20 but my weight is distributed pretty evenly. My lowest of 160 I was in an 8, but could still lose another 15. I'm not big boned. Im pretty much average in build. Big boobs? Check. Big belly? Check. Wide hips? Sort of. Big butt? Not that much. Big thighs? Check. I'm a apple shaped pear pretending to be hourglass. :-)

What Was It Like The First Day After Sleeve?
Heyher replied to lglavish's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not super comfortable with the post op pain. I had a breast reduction at 17 and when I woke up I was screaming in pain. I was at about a 15 on the pain scale. They didn't give me any pain meds til I was in my room. They gave me morphine and within an hour I realized I was not good with that. Vomiting for the rest of the night... Percocet was the only other option they gave me. So freaked about something like that happening again. Now my ACL replacement was a walk in the park. I slowly came too by gnawing on my breathing tube then proceeded to hit on all the male nurses. I had a nerve block in my leg, so pain was minimal (relatively speaking) and they gave me a wonder drug that made everything stop hurting. I'm going to have to tell the surgeon and anasthesiologist about the expierenc so I won't be screaming in pain... -
Quick question, did you notice the fatigue after surgery was really bad? I get fatigued so easy, so I'm worried about my return to work I'm hoping for three weeks off, but I read people without ms were still really fatigued at 4-6 weeks out...

Hello! I am new and am just starting the journey towards getting the sleeve. I have MS and I worry how it will effect my chances of being approved. I am just wondering if anyone on here has had the sleeve who has MS. Thank you!!

I'm pre-op still, but it feels like lately I have had food/bile stuck in the back of my throat. I expierenced this a while back, but it kind of seemed like a non issue for the past few years. (ironically that was during one of my successful weight loss attempts) It isnt heartburn because I rarely get that, so I can tottaly tell the difference. Any idea what is going on? Burping only makes it feel worse like something is about to come back up. Is this something to worry about or mention to my pcp? It isn't always like that but I really hate it when it happens. It goes away after a short while. But man does it feel nasty...

Body Piercing-Surgery Question
Heyher replied to amykins's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah I'll have to take mine out. Fiancé is bummed, be he agrees a healthier me is worth it. Had mine three years, so who knows how fast it might close. But don't want the catheter getting tangled up either. And if I decide, I can always have it redone. -
I recently had 4 stitches put in the tip of my finger to close up an open fracture. Also had stitches in my knee after knee surgery. And had them after a breast reduction (was a 36f or larger at 17, but had to buy 38ddd as that size was hard to find) and I hate getting stitches removed. To me it hurts. I would welcome strips or staples or hell even Elmer's. LoL!!! Just not a fan of stitches. But it will be worth it after surgery. :-)

You feel weak. But reading that post you are a very strong person.

Thanks. My grandma smoked, was obese, diabetic, and on oxygen when she passed. My mom was obese, then had the rny surgery. I'm obese and at high risk for diabetes. I am trying so hard. My downfall is that I can't smack my coworker who is causing me an extream amount of stress. *sigh* oh to daydream.

Sleeve Surgery And Dermatomyositis
Heyher replied to Reyna Rascon Lugo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ii don't have that, so I'm no subject matter expert, and by no means am offering medical advise. So maybe doctor is worried about nutritional needs not being met? Was is your surgeon or the doctor who made the diagnosis the one who gave you the info? If you have any concerns at all I would speak with the specialist who diagnosed you. From my understanding it can cause atrophy in the muscles, joint pain, and other symptoms. Are you on extra vitamins? With my ms I'm on daily multivitamin and since starting my multi vitamin and my ms therapy I have improved greatly. I am not sure how this perticular desiease progresses, but with muscle atrophy and joint pain, water aerobics are great because no pressure in the joints, but there is resistance from the water. Also when the clearance for exercise is given maybe start with very simple yoga to stretch and strengthen muscles. Low impact to help with pain. I wish I could help more... And I wish you the best with your journey. There is a thread on here about lupus. That may have some more info. Auto immune desiease are all so different, but I really hope some of my answers helped. -

Just want to ask for prayers for my fellow coloradans who were affected by last nights tragedy.

Thank you everyone. I guess the count is up to 72 shot of which 12 or 13 died, including a 6 year old child. 72 lives changed forever. Not to mention the ripple effect to their loved ones. There was an intern who escaped getting shot in Toronto in June 2nd when a gunman opened fire in a mall. She was one of the victims last night. Take a moment to tell your family you love them. Give them a hug.

Today is my day to stop smoking. Im excited and worried. I'm worried I'll fail. But my support system is amazing, so they won't let me fail. :-)

My journey is getting real! My info seminar is Thursday the 19th My pre-op consult is August 16th In between the two I have my psych eval, appt with pcp, and get breathing test. With any luck I could be sleeved by the end of september or early october. Crazy exciting!!!!
-
My appointment with my pcp is next week and I will get my referrals then. I go in tomorrow for hypnotherapy to quit smoking. Baby steps, but getting closer and closer!!!
-
If you believe it can help, hypnosis works for so many people. Find a hypnotherapist in your area and give them a call. They will explain how it works. And durring the session they do work on coping methods other then food and smoking. I had it done several years ago. Had a smoke right before I went in. Walked out and didn't smoke for almost two years. I only started again because I wasn't ready to quit. But I am going in tomorrow to try it again. Only thing is you have to be open to the idea it can help. It is nothing like how the movies portray it. They can't wire your brain to do something you don't want to do. They can't make you cluck like a chicken. It is more putting it in your subconcience that you are not a smoker. Subliminal messaging kind of.
