    Regain Realization

Wow, @cocobeau13!!! Your post knocked the wind out of me. I came to this site for the first time in months. My experience post-op has been disappointing, starting 1 month out when my slow progress got even slower. I eventually lost motivation and stalled for over a year. In the last 4 months I have actually gained 14 pounds, very easily. I was feeling depressed and defeated. So I signed in here, and was just about to search "regain" to look for inspiration when I glanced down the list of posts and saw yours. We have the same surgery date (5/29/18), which is what took my breath away! I'm going to take our surgery twinning and your recommitment as a sign that I can do this, too. Good luck to you, and thank you!

    Post Your Theme Song

Fun thread! This song has the same vibe as my pre- and post-surgery life. Food was and still is my nemesis, and it's a strong motherfucker: https://youtu.be/pX-bIr8dr6U Bloody Mother f**king a*****e Martha Wainwright Poetry is no place for a heart that's a ***** And I'm young and I'm strong But I feel old and tired Over fired And I've been poked and stoked It's all smoke, there's no more fire Only desire For you, whoever you are For you, whoever you are You say my time here has been some sort of joke That I've been messing around Some sort of incubating period For when I really come around I'm cracking up And you have no idea No idea how it feels to be on your own In your own home With the f**king phone And the mother of gloom In your bedroom Standing over your head With her hand in your head With her hand in your head I will not pretend I will not put on a smile I will not say I'm all right for you When all I wanted was to be good To do everything in truth To do everything in truth Oh I wish I wish I wish I was born a man So I could learn how to stand up for myself Like those guys with guitars I've been watching in bars Who've been stamping their feet to a different beat To a different beat To a different beat I will not pretend I will not put on a smile I will not say I'm all right for you When all I wanted was to be good To do everything in truth To do everything in truth You bloody mother f**king a*****e Oh you bloody mother f**king a*****e Oh you bloody mother f**king a*****e I will not pretend I will not put on a smile I will not say I'm all right for you For you, whoever you are
  3. I've been struggling with the slowest weight loss and longest stall ever in history (being a little dramatic, but still...). I'm not very close to my own chosen goal, and my therapist suggested I compare what my goal is compared to my program's. I dug out my paperwork, and the program's goal for me is 18 pounds heavier. I see a lot of people here with a similar height to mine that have a goal weight of 50 pounds or more less than mine. So I'm just curious, where did everyone's listed goal weight come from? Thanks everyone.

    OOTD

It took me all day, since 8 o'clock this morning, but between meetings I perused this entire thread. And all of you ladies are wonderful, beautiful, stylish and confident! I love it, and want to be like you all some day soon. Congrats! You all slay!!!

    Protein shakes

I'm around 15 months out, and I can drink a whole shake with no problem, in just a few minutes if I was in a rush. But I've always been able to drink a whole shake easily. Fluids have never been an issue for me post-surgery. Neither have solids for that matter.
  6. Thanks for the encouragement. But my surgery was actually 5/29/18. So, not quite as good, but I'm getting back on track. I really do think that my struggle is helping me to learn/keep good habits. At least, I hope the struggle is helping me.
  7. Thanks everybody for your responses. They have been very helpful! And @AZhiker, your post may have hit a little too close to home for comfort. 😔 I think I need to distinguish 2 weights in my mind: the 1) expected results (from program) and 2) my ideal body weight, which I have never seen as an adult. I think I will use the expected weight loss as my first goal, and go from there. Thanks again all for your responses. They have helped me to formulate a plan.

    June 2019 challenge

Hi everybody! My surgery date was 5/29/18. Day 1: Right now, I am feeling disappointed, in both the surgery and myself. I've actually felt this way for months! I'm trying to save myself from defeat. So, my 2 goals this month: 30 minutes of cardio each day Tracking for accountability This is my first challenge. Yay!

    The One Year Sleeviversary Today!

Thank you for the great post @ElectricGypsy. My weight loss has been slower than expected, too. It's nice to know that I'm not alone in the slow lane!

    Sluggish

I was always very regular. Toward the end of the mostly liquid pre-op diet, my BMs became infrequent, and hard! After surgery, I think it was 10 days before I had a movement, and it was a struggle. I started taking a stool softener/laxative combo (2/day), plus Metamucil (3/day). Today is 11 weeks out for me (wow!). I'm still not a daily "goer" anymore, but it's getting better. And it's not a chore when I go anymore. I'm still on the softener/laxative + Metamucil regimen. Hopefully that's not forever. I will admit, the more that I walk the more regular I am. Movement really is the key to movement. Hee.

    kidney/dialysis

Kathy, I believe that the exposure to others (staff and patients) at the treatment center probably exposed him to more than he had to deal with in his own home. Since his home was more contained, he seemed to be less susceptible to bugs. While he managed pretty well for most of the 15 years (!!) he was on dialysis, his underlying health issues were too much and eventually overcame him. He had a multitude of health issues. But he rocked it for 15 years, until election day morning in 2016. I like to think that he checked out because he knew the election result ahead of time. (sorry to get political, hee!).

    kidney/dialysis

@proudgrammy, I'm just adding my well wishes and positive vibes. I agree with Sosewsue61, home treatment is better than going to a treatment center for sure. My brother was on dialysis for many years, and would often battle infections at his port site. Once he switched to peritoneal and began doing dialysis at home, infection was no longer an issue. I'll keep you (and a new kidney) in my prayers!
  14. OMG SuperGal. I just emailed one of my program's nutritionist with almost the same vent/concerns as you. I almost mistook your post for my email, thinking I posted my email here by mistake when I glanced at your comment! I also had surgery on 5/29, started at a very similar weight to yours, and have lost 20 pounds since surgery. And only 6 pounds in the last 3 weeks. I had expected a few more pounds lost. I'm trying not to get stuck on the numbers, but it's hard not to when you see others having greater losses.

    help after surgery?

I live alone, too, and managed well on my own. I had people on call just in case, but I did ok. I just made sure to have everything I needed already waiting for me at home. The only thing I didn't do was wash my hair. I was too tired in the first few days. So I went to my hairdresser (drove myself!) for that.
  16. Hey everyone. I was sleeved on 5/29, 4 weeks ago today. I'm down 17 pounds since surgery, plus 8 pounds during the pre-op diet, for a total of 25. But I've only lost maybe 2 pounds in the last week. My only real issue has been constipation. I take colace. I started Metamucil last week, which seemed to help. I started the soft food diet last night. I haven't had any trouble with foods so far. I still drink 1 protein shake a day to help get my protein in. I'm struggling with my energy level, which also means that I'm not exercising like I should. So that's a work in progress. And getting in all my water is a challenge. Trying to drink, but have a 30-minute window before and after eating, plus getting in all my vitamins and prescription pills.... It can be too much. I'm averaging around 800 calories a day. Overall, though, I'm happy so far.

    Any MAY sleevers???

Hey everyone. I was sleeved 3 weeks ago today. I'm down 15 pounds since surgery. My energy level is not great. I went back to work yesterday, and had to take the day off today! I'm exhausted! But so far I have no regrets. Surgery went well, with no major complications. My new stomach has tolerated everything I've given it so far. I probably have been blending/overlapping the eating phases. When I was on liquids I don't think I was making my foods as soupy as I probably should have. And now that I'm on pureed, some of my foods are probably more like "soft foods," which is the next phase for me. But constipation does seem to be my new companion. I started taking Metamucil, hopefully that'll help.

    Any MAY sleevers???

I'm on Day 2 of the pre-op diet (surgery is 5/29) and I'm struggling! I just choked down a yogurt (required), but I'm behind on my daily requirements. I hope people are right when they say the pre-op diet is the worse part of the whole process.

    Any MAY sleevers???

Hey everybody!! I have a tentative date of 5/29. I just have to attend 1 more support group meeting, and then get the final approval from insurance. I'm very excited, and have no nerves about the surgery at all (yet). I am nervous about the pre-op diet, though, which for me will start next week because I am required to do 4 weeks. I'm afraid that the 4 weeks may be the end of me! LOL. But I'm ready!!! Does anyone else have to do 4 weeks pre-op?
  20. Hi all. Im just starting on the road to WLS for the 2nd time (I chickened out 5 years ago, and now I'm 20 pounds heavier...gahhh). I'm single and live alone. My nearest family is close, just 10 miles away. And I have a few close friends. But I'm independent to a fault. I'm wondering how well other single people have managed post-surgery? Assuming no major complications, should I mostly be ok on my own? i do have an elderly cat who may require more care than I can give initially, so I am a little worried about him. Any advice and/or lessons-learned would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
  21. Hi all. My insurance requires 6 months of weight management meetings, with no mandated weight loss required before surgery. I'm in month 4, and feel like I haven't made any real progress toward "changing my ways." But I don't really know if that's expected of me. At my monthly weight management meetings I'm given goals to achieve, such as 3 days of cardio a week, 12-14 grams of protein at each meal, etc. I'm struggling to meet all of those goals, and haven't given up Mountain Dew yet. The struggle is real. I'm wondering what others experienced in the months leading up to the surgery. Were you able to implement some of the changes before surgery, or did you maintain status quo until your pre-op diet? I worry that I should have shown some kind of progress/improvement over the last 4 months.
  22. Thanks everyone. I hope I can do as well as all of you!
  23. Wow, I was just looking to get other people's experiences. I was not asking for a verbal lashing from you. Thanks though.
  24. I'm worried that my bad food habits might sabotage me after surgery, so I decided to try therapy as another tool toward getting healthy. So far I've had 4 sessions and so far it hasn't been about overeating specifically, but more about what I'm missing in life that I'm trying to fill with food, if anything. I'm just starting 6 months of weight management, which means I'll have a minimum of 7 months of therapy (once a week) before surgery. I'm really interested in seeing where therapy takes me. I'm wondering what experiences others have had with starting therapy in anticipation of the getting the surgery. Has it helped you? Has it caused you to reconsider your decision to have surgery? Do you plan to continue therapy after surgery? Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!
  25. Hi everyone. I'm early in the pre-sleeve process (just got accepted into the Bariatric program last week, now 6 monthly weight management visits before surgery can be scheduled). I have GERD that is well-managed with Omeprazole, and I'm wondering what I may experience post-sleeve. For those who had pre-existing GERD that was relatively mild/controlled, can you tell me about your experience after being sleeved? I'm wondering if it's worth considering bypass instead. Thanks in advance for your help!
