Oops and yes aetna.. I actually had surgery scheduled twice (long story) and neither time was there a waiting period. Meet with nut, pshyc, and stress test, that was it. Approval request sent in on June 4th, on June 6th they were calling to schedule me.

    Dr. Kim

Hi I have a aetna and used Dr. Kim as well. I had no wait period other than his preop diet and availability at Baylor Trophy Club where I wanted the surgery. To be honest, I did not care for his personality at all during the two preop appointments. I had heard from people going into this that he didn't have the best "bedside manners" and tried to not let it bother me. Honestly, after the first visit I was mentally picturing myself choking him lol. However, I kept reminding myself that I was looking for the best surgeon with the best stats, not a new buddy to hang out with. His staff is amazing, this cannot be stressed enough. When you are ready for surgery, you will not be one of the people on here asking what you can eat and drink. You will have tons of info provided. As for the surgery, mine went great. Up and walking a few hours later, never got sick, his staff visited a few times while I was there, next day went home and never took anymore meds. Lastly, he is one of the strictest doc out there. No smoking for a month prior or ever again. liquid diet for 2-3 weeks before, HIS diet. liquids for another 3 weeks after surgery and then on to puree. Again, he is strict, but look up and ask him about his numbers.

    Hot Dogs & Sausages

I hope you get some good answers to this one. I personally hate hot dogs, but for the last month I would give my left leg to have one. My wife did preop diet with me... except for the time I drove past 7eleven and saw her inhaling a hot dog!! Now it's stuck in my brain.

Good Protein Powder To Add In Coffee?

    Do tell... what brand?
  11. My list is everything from the clear diet, cream soups with the American heart association stamp, strained of all lumps and then the lovely protein shakes. FWIW I didn't care for the cream soups until I made them with milk.

    Drinking Too Quickly

All doc's are different, but mine is pretty strict about you only drinking 4-5oz per hour all day long. You do this by drinking 1 oz every 12-15 mins, not chugging. I have a 1oz plastic shot glass within reach at all times and my cell beeps every 12mins telling me to drink the 1oz. Paper work says this is for the first 3 weeks, but my post-op follow-up is tomorrow and the nurse said if my swallow test looks good they may allow me to drink a little faster (100+ degrees lately). Good luck.
  16. Hey everyone, been lurking for a few weeks and just thought I would join up and post my impressions of the first 3 days since the sleeve.I'm sure it is very similar to many of you, or complete opposites to others, but the more info we get out there the better. Day 1 Surgery was 6/26 at 7am. I remember sliding over to the surgery table and waking up in recovery. The next thing I remember was being up in my room with my wife and a few nurse's running around. They got me out of bed for 11am walk and I was a little sick to my stomach so they had me sit down and take a shot of zofran (i think?). My 11a walk I did 2 laps and felt great my the end. By my 1p walk i felt like I never had surgery and walked 4 laps, 3pm went 4 laps, 5pm went 5laps, etc. Went to bed around 10pm and slept until 430am. Day 2 Woke up at 430am when they came for blood work. Got up and started more laps then, I would have given my left leg if someone would have allowed me to brush my teeth. 730am swallow test, passed, woohoo no leaks!! Then the dreaded 16oz of Water in 4hrs so I could leave, talk about feeling bloated lol. Went home about 5pm due to an issue with my wife's schedule. I was really in pain for the first time after that car ride. Took a shot of Loratab and passed out until 7am. Day 3 Today Woke up at 7am and dragged my wife out of bed cause i was bored silly and full of energy!! We went to walmart and trader joes to walk around and do some shopping. Home now and am trying to stay focused on getting in liquids/protein. Currently sipping on some Swansons chicken broth loaded up with some unflavored unjury. Some observations... I am in complete awe that I am pain free. I feel a slight pulling on the cuts when i sit up, but thats it. Zero nausea. I really think this is due to 2 things that I was very strict about. 1 - My 3 week liquid diet. that the doc made me follow. Dropped almost 30lbs and also lost all hunger before the surgery, this will make the next few weeks a breeze since im already in the mindset. 2 - Walking. About 2 weeks before operation we started walking 1/2hr night. I was walking every two hours once I got out of recovery.
  17. I had my surgery last Tuesday and Thursday was my first full day home. Since then I am averaging a loss of 3.4lbs a day. I am still on liquids (water, broth, shakes and vomit aka isopure) drinking a minimum of 60oz and 40g of protein each day, along with a daily 30min walk. Does this seem a bit fast/unhealthy?

If I Dont Lose The 10Lbs

Way to go!! Don't take your eye off the prize. Remember, the more you lose pre-op, the quicker your journy will be for you post-op.

    Did I Screw Up?

SOME PEOPLE... have been known to fall off the wagon worse than that and made out fine. Drink a lot of extra Water and stick to the plan. Good luck on Saturday!!
