  1. I am 6 weeks post op and have 4.5 ccs in my band. I am getting frustrated because I have no restriction. I don't want to hear all of the "you are in bandaged hell" and you have to diet comments. I got a $10,000 surgery to help me with eating less. I know I need to be patient....

I Needed The Band Because Dieting Didnt Work For Me

I'm confused...if you didn't or were not planning to bash for the reasons I listed then it was not directed at you. Maybe you should look at other posts I have made. It was one comment and I never said I was not open to other's comments. I said don't bash me for my unconventional, based on my opinion of what I have read, thoughts about the fact that the band can work without dieting. If that bothers you, I'm sorry. If clarifying that I am losing so I don't need all of the "only eat one cup", eat protein first, etc advice offends you then that means you don't intend to help me with what I am struggling with and that is needing restriction. I have seen all the people who diet give that advice and some bash others who don't. If you haven't that's ok too. This is a free thought forum. You are welcome to agree or disagree. Comment or not comment but I am also free to do the same. I didn't say I was not open to comments...I just don't need to hear why I am not losing when I am. I need restriction and I glad my doctor is realistic about the fact that restriction is necessary or there would be no point in a band. I have two friends who eat as they like and have restriction to the point that they CAN NOT eat more than a cup of food at a sitting. They have both gotten to goal weight and that's what I want. I don't want to diet. My doctor is ok with that. The Jane Fonda comment was a joke....relax and allow everyone to express things the way they need to. No post has your name on it so if you disagree or it doesn't sound like it is about you then it is not. I have seen people get bashed for saying they can't eat certain things or they aren't working out everyday. That is my experience and if you haven't seen it or feel that way good. Does that mean I don't have the right to?
  3. I see so many posts that say "just because you can eat a cup of food doesn't mean you should" and "eat just baked chicken and vegetables" and be Jane Fonda. My doctor and nutritionist are much more realistic. They understand that dieting for life is not realistic and they are helping me to live life in balance.

I Needed The Band Because Dieting Didnt Work For Me

So I have to agree or go elsewhere? I didn't say I didn't respect other opinions. I explained that I am successfully managing bandster hell so I didn't need all the advice you get from a doctor. I shared that I was glad my doctor was realistic. I will continue to share my thoughts on this forum. My thought was you don't have to diet to be successful on the band. Does that offend you somehow? I didn't say your thoughts about that weren't welcomed. Opinions are welcome...those who disagree are welcome to do so. I just clarified that I am successful so my comment was not a passive-aggressive request for help. It was a statement from a different viewpoint.

I Needed The Band Because Dieting Didnt Work For Me

Thanks for all the feedback. I feel as I feel and everyone is entitled to how they feel. I feel like not being realistic about how you feel keeps you where you don't want to be. I feel like I need restriction to lose weight. I see people struggling with the same issue and they will appreciate my honesty. If you don't then I understand that. So are you asking for me to bash you because you feel differently and accused me of seeking to be bashed? I won't respond in that manner because you are entitled to your opinion. I stated mine & I really don't post to even get a response. It was how I am feeling and if you disagree then so be it.

I Needed The Band Because Dieting Didnt Work For Me

Wow a bit defensive to the word bashing. LOL I definitely have seen people bashed or given sermons for saying they can't wait to get to the green zone. Like I said, I truly understand an have not been eating more than a cup of food. I appreciate that some people want to diet. It just seems that those who are always give a sermon to those who choose to just limit their intake and eat proteins first. It works and I am a witness. You don't have to eat cottage cheese, no breakfast and chicken breasts everyday for the band to work. I simply shared another viewpoint and I know it is against the grain. Yes I said no bashing because we all are entitled to live and be banded as we choose. I have shared a similar thought and all the band dieters give a sermon.

And before you bash me and tell me why I am failing ...I am losing and happy about my progress.

    2Nd Fill Today

Yep...I know that. It is an average so not an exact.

    2Nd Fill Today

I had my second fill today. I am at 5.5ccs. My doctor told me that most people find their green zone on average between 6-8ccs. I hope that I am getting close.
  11. I work in HR. I would recommend that if you still want the surgery that ask the HR person if she truly feels that your restriction is not a reasonable accommodation based on your essential job functions. Use those exact words. Companies have a legal obligation to make accommodations for temporary or permanent reasonable accommodations. If she still does not think so, ask her if she thinks it would be covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act. I have a feeling that you may get your restrictions approved. If not and you work for a regional or national company, contact your integrity hotline and/or corporate HR team.

    Divorce After Losing Weight!

Steph1967...if you aren't intimate with him and unhappy...why not be happy without him and at least put yourself in a place to be single and prove yourself wrong about no one else wanting the loose skin. Find someone who makes your feel good emotionally and once you trust them tell them that you lost all that weight to get the loose skin. They will probably admire you and love you as you are...if they are worth having you they will

It Is Like I Never Had Surgery Sometimes

I understand Melissa and I think being realistic about the fact that we need the tool we paid for is ok. It is great if some can do it without but if you can't then anticipating the green zone is ok. It doesn't automatically mean you are just eating like you have no control. It is just a reminder that we made the right decision because we need out bands.

It Is Like I Never Had Surgery Sometimes

I understand all of the should do's...I have lost but I also know many people who didn't lose until the got to the Green Zone. I am ready to be there. If portion control was not all of our problem we wouldn't need the band. I get that we need to, and I am, control portions until we get there. I am just ready for the help with it that I paid for. I know...I have to wait and stay focused.
  15. I am 10 days post op. When I stand up I feel like my port is being pulled downward. Anyone else experience that feeling? I can't walk around with out holding my belly in.
  16. I had mine at four weeks

    Insurance Approval

It took about 2 weeks. Called them each week and had my doctor call after they said they were waiting on a final consult with him. Call and see where they are in the process

    Skin Irritation?

Please call a Pharmacist today and see your doctor tomorrow...a rash is a sign of an allergy to medication. My sister nearly died from a reaction to Dilantin. It started with a rash and ended in chemicals burns from the inside out and ultimately renal failure. I had a rash from hydrocodone after another surgery. As soon as I told the pharmacist that I had a rash he told me to stop taking it immediately.
  20. I would recommend sitting up to eat and drink. You are probably still swollen and having your band upright as things are passing through may help. You also may be experiencing some of te gas pressure from the gas they put in your abdomen. Try putting a heating pad on your back. My doctor said that I could have alcohol two days after I stopped the pain meds. His only concern is the empty calories and that you will be more intoxicated with less because you arent eating much so be careful

    Dumping?

It may have been totally unrelated to the band and not an intolerance. You may have eaten something earlier or just have a stomach bug. I am lactose intolerant and it has gotten worse after the band. It may be that but again, it could just be that your stomach was irritated by something else. Try a little ice cream again and see what happens...if it does it again you know that is what it was. That's really the only way to know

Not Tight In Am, Anyone Else?

It could be that you have lost fat around your stomach so the band is looser. I would recommend going to see your doctor.

I Feel As No Band Is There.

Every doctor is different so listen to your doctor. I only had to do liquids for two days and mushies for a week. I could have gotten a full at three weeks or four. I opted for four and am scheduled a month out for my second but can get another at two weeks if I really feel I need it. My doctor has the most experience in Wisconsin and has never had a slip. Let's not pass judgement and encourage each other to follow Doctor's orders.

I Get My First Fill Today...

I am a little nervous because I get my first fill today. According to my doctor he puts 2-3 ccs in when he does the surgery and will do 2-3 the first fill. The goal is to start at 5ccs as most of his patients get restriction between 6-8 ccs. I hear it is not painful so I am not worried about that. I am just paranoid of being stuck. I know I know...chew chew and small bites. The truth is everyone is different so even if I do that something may not agree with my band (rice, bread, etc.)
