How To Tighten A Lap Band Without A Port Head?
prettysmart1913 replied to model's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree. They rude and mean responses were uncalled for. I had a cyst bust from under my skin. It is possible and we may not understand her plight because we are all in higher BMI's but she didn't ask for judgement just advice. I had a nurse tell me during my pre-op process that I wasn't big enough to need Lapband. She was going based on my appearance. I carry my weight well. However I am 5'5" and was 240 pre-surgery (6 days post-op at 233 -yayy!). That is a 43 BMI. I said that to say if any of us make it to a 22 BMI we won't be removing our bands and some of us may strive to 18. Will we remove our bands? Then don't judge her...give advice or move on. She is young and just looking for an ear. Rememer being supportive doesn't mean you have to agree -
Sick Of Protein Shakes!
prettysmart1913 replied to MiriamE's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I use Boost shakes but can only get one in a day now. I am onto mushies so it is better because I can blend soups. How long do you have to do just liquids? -
I Give Up...
prettysmart1913 replied to jennypenny's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can succeed at this. You have to decide you are worth it, take ownership of your process and get the fills you need. Go see your nutritionist and psychologist that you saw before you started. Don't say "I can't" until you've truly tried everything you "can" to get back on track. I have lost and regained 52lbs on weight watchers. I know how much that discourages you. Don't wait three years like I did to decide I was worth starting over! -
My Date Is Set!
prettysmart1913 replied to Juli Salzman's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Good luck! It is not a bad recovery at all. Take it easy and have your liquids and mushies ready. Have a variety of options-salty, sweet, creamy, liquid...it helps get the calories in. Believe it or not that is the hardest part the first few days! -

Believe it or not that is the hardest part the first few days! My dietitian used a formula. (Current Weight-Ideal medical Weight) X .6 = Goal Weight

I only had to do liquids for 4 days (clear for 2). Every doctor is different

Surgery In The Morning

I had mine 8/22. It was not bad at all. Take your pain meds and take it very easy. The first month is about healing! -
New Life Started & Now I Need Advice
prettysmart1913 replied to VegasMommaof1's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had mine 8/22. I started at 240...came home at 249...I'm now 234. Focus on healing! You are going to be fine unless you keep worrying...then you'll get discouraged and are at more risk to get off track. You made a huge commitment to change your life and you will be successful because you now have the tools to be! -
I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter. I am glad to hear that you are focusing on your own health while you focus on hers. Mom's often forget about themselves and that is not the right thing to do. Getting health is for you and for your family! I am five days post op. I have had minimal pain and so far I have lost 6lbs from the day of surgery. The goal isn't to lose right now but if I can heal properly, eat right and lose I'll take it. Good luck on your journey!

Want To Start Trying For A Baby, But Scared! :(
prettysmart1913 replied to cthomas3280's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
I have a friend who had the band about 5 years ago. She was pregnant with twins (and lost one) and has a baby girl. She got back to pre-pregnancy weight and is now 32 weeks pregnant with triplets. She had her band emptied but has maintained a healthy weight. It can be done and eating healthy for the baby will be great motivation to not forget what your personal goals are. Good luck! -
What Would You Wear If You Lose Weight?
prettysmart1913 replied to lupediva's topic in The Gals' Room
A dress above my knees, tube style jumpsuit with stilettos, knee high boots, skirt/dress without something under it to keep my legs from rubbing and all white pantsuit -
They recovery period is not easy but it is worth it. I'm three days in and so excited about what is to come. Remember the recovery is just a moment in time. This too shall pass!

Nurse Bandsters??
prettysmart1913 replied to jesbowne's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am not a nurse but I am three days post op so I thought I may be able to help some. I don't recommend a week. I had a breast reduction a few months ago and after three weeks I went back to work and I was exhausted. I felt half the pain and weakness that I feel with this surgery. Don't rush back! I had awesome nurses while in the hospital and I would have hated to see any of them trying to do the jobs they do a week after this surgery. Listen to your doctor but take it from someone halfway to a week out...you will not be ready to go back to work. You are also changing your entire outlook on eating. Give yourself time to create a routine and understand what and how to eat to stay satiated. You don't want to rush back and go back to old habits. You'll only have restriction for a short while, until the swelling goes down -
Banded Yesterday
prettysmart1913 replied to missymobaby's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was banded on Wednesday and couldn't lay on either side at first now I can lay on my right side (port is on left). I am also finally able to hold my belly to control the pain when I walk. It is already getting better and I'm one day ahead of you. Sleep as much as you can...it helped the time pass for me. I walked a little but sleep kept me from being frustrated -
August Roll Call
prettysmart1913 replied to DeAna N's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had surgery on 8/22 and ended up having a hiatal hernia fixed as well. It seems I am the opposite of most people I only feel comfortable laying down. Sitting up causes a pulling feeling that gives me excruciating pain. I am 100% comfortable laying down. I'm not hungry at all so I have to make myself drink and eat. I am on oxycodone because I'm allergic to hydrocodone. I am super gassy but the Gas X is helping with that. I am using Boost lite for my protein shakes and they taste pretty good. I am on full liquids until tomorrow and puréed food for two weeks from there. I think I'll be fine as long as I keep on schedule. I got 4 weeks of paid leave so I am taking it all to ensure when I'm back at work that I'm in a routine and ready to face food in the real world. I am scheduled for my fill on 8/26 but can get it on 8/19 if I am feeling hungry -

I was banded this AM. They found a very bad hiatal hernia during surgery. They repaired it and all is well, I'm just sore and EXHAUSTED!

Medically Supervised Diet
prettysmart1913 replied to chubsy's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Every insurance company and surgeon requires something different. My insurance required 12 months but I was already 9 months in when I decided on a band. I didn't do the 9 to get the band. I also had to have 30 days of a dietician supervised diet and participation in UHC obesity counseling program that my company requires for reduced premiums. It sounds like a lot but it really was best because I did all of that just because I wanted to lose. I only decided on the band after a friend revealed that is how she lost all of her weight. -
