    Tell Us Where You're From!

Hi guys, I was sleeved July 2nd and joined VST on the 4th. My surgery was done by Dr. Mitchel Roslin at Lenox Hill Hospital. I was born, raised and still live in the Bronx NY. Right now I live in the Morris Park/ East 180th area.

    Sleeved Yesterday...

I felt pain the most on the day of surgery and 2 days later when I got home. Most of it is from gas which is why they insist on the walking.. Once I passed the gas. I Found that the pain is tolerable. I have not had any pain meds since I left the hospital. Keep in mind that everyone is different and may feel differently. This is just my experience

    Newbie!

I have Empire BCBS through work and my surgical coordinator said that they are one of the best when it comes to approval. She sent the request on a wednesday and on Friday she called me that all had been approved and my surgery was scheduled for two weeks later. I was told that the faster they get all the required info such as the primary drs recommendation, the ugi results, psych evaluation the faster you get approval. I started my journey in May 2,2012 and was sleeved July 2, 2012.
  6. This is a prayer that my friend sent to me the night before I had my surgery. She made me promise her that I would say it the day of surgery. I actually was so caught up in everything that I didn't but I did say it the night before and my own personal one right before the surgery. I just wanted to share it in case there's anyone who needs some comfort. Have a nice day. And good luck to everyone who has their surgery today. ???? Dear God: Let your hand of loving calm be upon me, bringing rest and peace into my mind and body. Bring to my remembrance the skills of my physcian and his attendants, who have been prepared through the years by the gift of your Spirit. Help me to recall the history of your grace in my life -- all the trials and dangers, both seen and unseen, from which you have been my Rescuer through the years. Enable me to know you now. for you have been trustworthy in all your doings. Take away all anxiety from me and those who love me, and let us enter this experience with a sense of adventure, to learn from it how to be more obedient servants. Through Him who trusted You in everything, even Jesus Christ my Lord. Amen
  7. Good luck!!! Everything will be fine

    Soda After Sleeve?

Fresca is actually pretty good and it has no sugar or calories. Taste like sprite to me but it's carbonated so I would wait til you can have a carbonated drink but if you need a soda fix I think that's one to try but only after you can

    Off Of Disability After Wls?

My cousin had a gastric bypass done about 8 years ago she was over 500 lbs possibly reaching 600. Because of issues she had because of her obesity she qualified for SS benefits. Today she weighs possibly 225-250lbs not to sure because she was around 160 at some point , walks alot goes to frequent appointments for herself and her children and is quite capable of working in my opinion but continues to receive her check every month, public assistance and whatever other benefits she qualifies for. So I think it's just a matter of whether the person who receives these benefits wants to enter the work place.

    Food Question

Thank you I'm actually going with my brother to the supermarket to pick up some stuff on my own. Figured I can get the walking in while I'm at it. Fage was one of the yogurts on the list yesterday but hubby is a grab n go type of guy. Don't think he bothered to read labels lol I asked for vegetable juice and got V8 mixed with fruit juice to bad I can't take it back
  11. So being that last night (7/4/12) was my first day Home since I got sleeved on 7/2 I sent my husband to the supermarket with a list of things to get. He got me the unsweetened almond milk, sugar free Popsicles, fat free milk, soup(so that I can drink the broth) and Greek yogurt. However the yogurt although I told him to get it with the least sugar possible (under 10 grams) has alot of sugar(21 grams). Each one is 6 oz and when I divide into 3 it comes out to be 7 grams per serving. My question is if I mix it with plain yogurt will the grams of sugar be less? I don't want to break a rule and will like to stay with the guideline I was given. I think it will be fine and can't wait to start on the yogurt after day 5. Has anyone tweaked their food a lil bit? I added lemon juice to my chicken broth in the hospital to give it more flavor. I drink G2 gatorade, propel water, diet snapple and reg water to keep me hydrated. Also any thing that can be added to the grocery list to get me through these first few days will be deeply appreciated.

    Food Question

I was only told to keep the yogurt under 10 grams of sugar. I told my husband to buy plain ones but I guess he didn't hear that part. I don't think that it'll be a problem if I mix 2 oz of plain into it and add some protein. For breakfast this morning I had some almond milk with a scoop of protein... It Actually Wasnt bad... The snapple Im drinkin has only 2 grams of sugar and taste Pretty good. Im glad I started doing taste test when the nutritionist gave me the list because I know what I can tolerate and what to stay away from

    Sharp Pain

Sorry youre in pain but Maybe you over exerted yourself. The papers I got from my Dr. Said light housework could be resumed after 3-4 weeks. Sounds like you did alot more than light housework. Try some pain killers maybe you did pull muscle oratbe you're just sore. Hope you get better though
  14. Just had my surgery July 2nd. The pain at first was sort of unbearable to me but I made sure I got the pain killer every 4 hours So I managed. What I haven't been able to do is get a full nights rest and now that I'm home it doesn't seem to be coming because I just can't seem to get comfortable. I started liquids yesterday and just have to get used to "sipping" all day like the Dr told me to. Was able to pass gas twice today but I know I still have more to go... Can't wait for that release. Good luck to everyone on their procedures
