Here's how I described it in an email to a friend... gross but true. Have you had a stuck moment yet? They are horrid!! And the first time you have one, you will definitely know that's what it is. I'm gonna get graphic and gross now.. so bear with me. If you have ever had one of those moments when you take too big a bite.. (ever in life, not just since the band) and you can feel every inch of its travel from your throat to your stomach, that's the beginning of the feeling of being stuck. Then ... add a pocket of air behind that.. which slows it down to a miniscule crawl ... (and if you have ever had a time when you belched after eating and a whole bite of something you just ate comes back up) that's what happens when you get stuck. Add to that a bucket of mucus that your esophagus produces to smooooth the way.. And there you have it!! STUCK!!!! YUCK!!!! hahhaha The very best advise I can give... Don't try to get it to go down... work hard to try to get it to come back up... with what they term progressive burping.. cause believe me.. if it didn't go down the first time.. you trying to force it isn't gonna make it any easier!! It obviously doesn't want to fit through that little bitty hole.

High FIVE for only having to wait 3 months.. hahha
-
I was banded August 1, when I originally started the process in April I was prepared to do the 6 month, but then they informed me I only had to do 3 months. Good Luck.
-
You might want to check with True Results Janelle, That's where I went to have my Lap Band in August. They have lots of really great Dr.'s associated with their service. Good Luck! And welcome to Houston!

I like this site http://www.skinnytaste.com she breaks down the protein and calories of each meal. I can't eat everything, but it helps to be able to see recipe's that will a little alteration work for me.

Ashamed To Meet Husband Co-Workers
lucie159 replied to Beachgirl11's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
awe sugar!!! I know how you feel about meeting people.. I feel that way about most everyone most of the time. But the truth of it is, your probably an incredible person and if all they can see is the weight, then screw them!!! -
First off... when did you have surgery? What fill is this for you? And I know more people will touch on this, but you don't usually feel much restriction for a few fills. I am on my 2nd fill and don't feel any restriction yet. BUT, it will happen.. you just have to be patient!!!

I'm here in Houston, and I was banded by Dr. Christopher Reilly through True Results. He is based at the West Houston Medical Center, but the True Results Office is located in the Medical Center and has a Surgical Center there that they use too. It should go quickly since you are self pay, but I don't know what kind of tests you will have to have before. Perhaps you can call and they can tell you so you can get all that done before your trip here. Good Luck

Were you having your period too, or are you just really really shy.. hahahhahaha!!! -
Oh.. and the cost is much better too.. the original e-cigarette and one filter cost me $18.99.... and the 3 pack of replacement filters cost me $12.99.... Each filter last me about 2 weeks!! More money for new clothes!!!

Exactly... Its that stress you feel.. when you stop smoking.. you eat more, when you stop eating you smoke more.. thats the endless cycle for a smoker... there is also the habits associated with smoking, after you have a meal.. with your morning coffee, when your having a drink.. I don't even miss the regular cigarettes!!!
-
I have to chime in on this.. and I know that some will say that I didn't really quit.. but... this is what I did.. I am a 31 year pack a day smoker. I tried chantix last year and only made it three weeks before I went right back to the cigarettes.. When I knew I wanted to get the lapband earlier this year I knew that they would make me quit smoking.. and besides, I want to run.. can't run while your wheezing up a lung. HA! Anyway... I had some left over chantix from last year.. so.. I started my chantix... and bought myself an electronic cigarette. Now before all the anti-smoking peeps chime in.. I was able to graduate myself from a high dose of nicotine down to no nicotine... I found that with the chantix, it takes away the craving... but not the habit.. and the habit is what makes most go back to it. I was able to fight that habit with the electronic cigarette and it wasn't as stressful. As of today it has been 2 full months since I lit a cigarette. I still carry my electronic cigarette with me, and when I get stressed and need something to get me through, I reach for that.. and I'm good.. sometimes, I don't even touch it for a few days... but its there and better then the cigarettes.. I love the fact that I can breathe now... My tastebuds are back and I don't smell like an ashtray... give it a try.... and I hope it helps you too. I only had to take the chantix for 2 weeks.. then I quit that too.. GOOD LUCK!

I know how bad you feel... I have been denied over the years about 5 times.... unfortunately I wasn't ever able to go the self pay route.. I had to keep trying with insurance company after insurance company.. Every time they renewed our insurance for the year I would look into it.. well... Finally, I was approved... I was banded on 8-1-12.... I pray for you that you will be able to get the surgery through the self pay... that you will find a way... but if you don't.... DON'T give up... NEVER give up!!! Everything happens in God's time. Your fighting for you life.. NEVER give up!

Drinking Non-Carbonated Alcohol
lucie159 replied to BrandieRiggsby's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I don't have any problem as long as the drink isn't carbonated, but it will absolutely get you drunker faster!!! The band really effects the alcohol absorption. -
Third Fill And I Think I Finally Have Enough Restriction
lucie159 replied to PatchIP's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I can't wait till I get to this point. I only have 3cc in my band right now. I have a 14cc band.. I go for my second fill on the 20th. I don't feel ANY restriction right now. And I am truly struggling! I hope this gets better. -
Did you gain the weight back after the first band slipped? Is that why you had the second one?
-
I'm so proud of you! I just had to come read your blog when I saw the title. A girl after my own heart! The first thing I said after the surgery, when I was in recovery, was that I was FREE! And the second thing I said was "I'm gonna RUN"!! I aspire to run a 5K myself.. I swear that I am gonna be one of those girls who pull their hair in a pony tail and hit the pavement at sunrise! I ache to run! You make me feel like maybe I can really do that! Thank you! I'm just in the beginning of my journey though. I go for my first fill today. I am hoping to be running by the end of this year. I have a lot to lose though. But I am gonna get there!

I have Cigna... I don't have any of the normal Weight diseases either.. no high blood pressure, no diabetes, but I do have a higher bmi then you. I was approved in only 3 weeks. Hopefully you will get the answer you want. Good luck!
-
I know the feeling.. I was banded on 8/1 I have been really struggling for the last 2 weeks. I feel like I didn't even have any surgery done. I go for my first fill tomorrow. I am hoping that I will have some restriction then so I can really begin this journey. Good luck!

Your Pregnant! hahah.. sorry.. just kidding! It's probably your hunger talking.. you might not think so.. but that was the same for me right after surgery.
-
She's had 118 posts... that's not new.. hahhaa I didn't mean to offend you, and I wasn't agreeing with 2muchfun.. I was just pointing out that you had 118 posts... I wasn't aware that you were talking about this forum particularly.. I'm sure there is a lot that you could share having 118 posts. That was the point I was making!!

I agree with RobinGirl... you are so young sweetie that your skin will likely snap right back. Don't wait until your in your 40's.. (like me) and look back and realize how much better it would have been to do this before age got the better of you. You have your whole life to live... be proud of your scars.. those that are visible.. and those that are not. They are what mold you into the person you are. ROCK THOSE SCARS GIRL!

I waited a long time for help. I have been trying to get some form of WLS for years, but insurance always got in my way. So I finally got approved by my current insurance. YAH me! ANYWAY!!! When I woke up from anesthesia after the surgery... The first thing I said was.. "I'M FREE!" ... and the second thing I said was... "I'M GONNA RUN!" So.. whats the first thing you remember saying? Was it profound? or depressing.. lol..

hahaha! too funny! Thanks.. that made me laugh out loud!
