Almost 3 yrs and I'm still amazed
cbd replied to NtvTxn's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thank you so much for sharing. I kind of needed that. I am just four weeks out today...still on blended/pureed foods till next week. As I sit eating my two ounces of cream of wheat and get full very fast....I was wondering if I will ever be able to eat a little bit more normal. It's wonderful that you put the type of food and quantities down so I can see that it does get a little bit normal. Thank you again and congrats on your success! -
Insurance. I had a BMI of 37 but had hypertension and high cholesterol. I took 8 months from my first informational meeting till surgery and one denial from insurance. A lot of paper work and jumping thru hoops. If I had the resourses to pay cash I would of. It would of been a lot easier and quicker.

Obviously this is a personal decision. I had surgery 1/10/13, I started at 231 before my five days of clear liquids, was 227 the day of surgery and this morning.....less than one month after surgery I am 207 and knocking on the oneworld's door. It is a huge lifestyle change. i am still on blended food till next monday then I can go to solids. The fact that you fill up sooooo fast takes some getting used to...I am full at 2 oz of food and you really do need to stop when you are full. i have gone out to eat and it is kind of hard to eat your two ounces over twenty minutes while others are eating the whole time. i put my untensil down between bites, talk more, move my food around....I am sure I will get used to it. Good luck with your decision....this is a good site to read up on and ask questions.

Are you getting your 70-90 gm of protein in a day? A why do you have to wait 5 more months before you can try a pc of pizza? I can start solids one month post op as long as I introduce new foods slowly.

You look great....you are an inspirtation. i am 5"6 had surgery 1/10/13 with a starting wt of 231....I am now 208 and looking forward to the 100's! I hope I do as well as you.

Preparing for possible "yucky stuff" after surgery
cbd replied to scsleever's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
As far as pain, I was on a morphine PCA pump the day of surgery and it was discontinued the next morning then they switched me to Liquid loratab (like vicodin). I used that for about three or four days then switched to liquid tylenol. That was good enough then. Maybe you could get a RX from your Dr before you go for the liquid loratab so you can use it after. I was on clear liquids for three days post op so that shouldn't be too hard to bring with you till you come home. Get some hi protein instant soups and bring them with. Also so sugar free jello. I only had nausea while on the PCA pump after that no nausea and have never gotten sick. Just be kind to your pouch and only sip. Good luck! -
I was/am a chocholate addict. I used to buy a bag and finish it in one day. I am three weeks post op and still get the urge. i actually bought some one day and it really did not tast like I remember. I ate two or three pc. and thru the bag away. i still think I want some when I walk by it at the store but then I remind myself that I really don't like it that much anymore and keep moving. Good luck....you will get back on track and we will NOT revert to our old habbits.

Hi...I ran into the same thing. i could take in protein shakes pre op but post op the consistency and taste really bothered me. I tried isopure protein drink which is a clear liquid and I love it. i am now three weeks out and still prefer it. I love the mango flavored and grape. it comes in bottles which is 40 gm protein per 12 oz or a powder which you can mix and it has 50 gm per 12 oz. Good luck. Try anything to get that protein and fluid in.

Does more restriction on liquids occur further out?
cbd replied to mikeross's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have no issues with liquids but was told to sip not gulp so you don't put too much pressure on your new staple line in you stomach....they don't want too much pressure on it so it can heal. -
I did clears for three days post op then full liquids for one week and am now on my three weeks of pureed or blended diet. This past isn't too back as I can have cottage cheese, yogart, blended meats. I also look forward to a regular diet in about nine days...but who's counting?

cbd replied to spartanfan's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had a headache about three or four days post op. It wasn't sever though and chewable tylenol helped. -
can you pull your staples?
cbd replied to 2013newme's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If it keeps up contact your doctor. Better safe than sorry. Earlier this week (I would of been 2 1/2 weeks post op) my three year old grandson was climbing into his car seat cause he knows I can't lift him yet. He started to fall backwards and I caught him. I felt a pull and my largest incision started to hurt. it bothered me that day and was a little sore the next day. Now it is fine but I sure was concerned that i had done something to it. He weighs 42#. Hopefully you will be feeling good again soon. -

3 week Sleevers! How much protein?
cbd replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am almost three weeks out...supposed to take in 70 to 90 but most days get in about 55-60 -
I have been so tired since surgery....have done walks but not too much more. I am hoping to advance soon.

Hi Jon. Good luck with your journey. I also talked to a lot of family, friends, coworkers that were supportive but deep down I don't know if they really understood this decision of mine. I did a lot of research, watch the surgery on youtube. As i went thru the process that my insurance and the weight loss program expected, I learned alot and was focused on getting approved. I was sleeved a little over two weeks ago. I feel good and still amazed that i eat because i need to eat. I loved food and was an emotional eater or a bored eater. I don't have that urge to eat everything now...I know I am still early out but it is amazing to look in the mirror and see the difference already. i am shooting for a healthier future...good luck!

This is a lifetime commitment. Including taking your vitamins for life....you can't get enough nutrients thru your food anymore so you MUST be diligent about your vitamins. It would be terrible to go thru all this to get healthier only to get sick cause you were malnourished. Good luck....get back on your vitamins!

Put MYfitnesspal on your phone and enter everything you eat and drink everyday. During my psych appoint preop he said to do this everyday for ever. it helps us keep track of what we are putting in our mouth and breaks things down in to nutrional stats too. You can look at it and tell where you are deficaint and if you are making good choices.

Help, I can't stop eating
cbd replied to shortsleevedkay's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't worry. i as like that pre op....just two weeks ago. I wanting to eat all the things I wouldn't be able to again. The thing is...now that I am sleeved, it is a struggle to get all of my caloric, protein and fluids daily requirements in. I am not hungry and have to remind myself....Oh yea,...I have to eat. Enjoy your food. I later realized that I will be able to have whatever I want again....I just have to let my sleeve heal first and then everything will be moderation. My choices now are more nutrition based then want based. Good luck...you will do fine. -
