Why has Tricare denied gastric sleeve?

Can you change insurance? My husbands insurance covered it but was an *** and You had to travel fours hours for all the meetings, appoint., surgery, follow up. I changed to the insurance offered at my work last July and was sleeved in Jan. It put surgery off a few months but was worth it. Good luck

    Question for the ladies

    Stumped

It is odd but there was a discussion on this site last month about not getting up to pee during the night. Seems like most people...all drinking their fluids don't have to pee as often. I don't know why.
  4. never has happened to me but I am on prilosec twice a day for the first 60 days. Just finished it but I think I will continue to take one a bedtime. Good luck

    Messed Up Bad

Our sleeve is a tool. We still have the demons inside our head to fight with. Don't dwell on relapses.....just start out with a fresh attitude of making good choices. Good luck
  6. Sleeve was a clear choice for me. I don't want any bypassing of my nutrients. With the bypass they actually bypass a large portion of your small intestines. The small intestines is where most of your vitamins/nutrients are absorbed by your body before going into the large intestines. With the sleeve it does not interfere with your absorbsion of all the good stuff your body needs....it just restricts the amount you can eat. Good luck with your choice.

    stretching your pouch?

Good info....I have not heard about people gaining their wt back...any information out there that anyone wants to share. In our nutrition class they did say that at the two year mark some people gain 10-20 # and that we should make sure it doesn't go above 10#
  8. what brand protein do you all to the coffee? Can you mix it in hot coffee?
  9. One time during my post op this happened to me. I chewed up something crunchy (can't remember what now) but then spit it out into a napkin....sounds gross but it helped the chew craving.
  10. I didn't have to restart my vitamins till two weeks post op. used childrens chewable vitamins, chewable calcium and for my Vitamin B...I had to crush...yuk. I used unjury pre op but couldn't really tolerate it after so I used isopure zero which is a clear liquid protein i get at GNC.

    He does not understand.....

Take him to your classes with you. My husband was supportive but didn't understand a lot in the beginning. He went to all of my classes and appointments with me. I am two months post op and I think he knows or remembers more than me. He is there to help me make sure I don't eat any faster than 20 minutes, remind me not to use that straw that the waitress just gave me, etc. Knowledge helps.
  12. Mango...and I get it at GNC.....post op it is one of the few that I tolerate.

    Help, am I full?

Everyone is differant. I was cl liq for three days then full liquid for the next week. No matter what I ate or drank...the first few weeks my stomach made lots of weird noises. It does get less. Good luck
  16. I was told to stick between 600-800 calories and 60-80 of protein. They did not specifically restrict my carbs but when you are trying to get so much protien in then isn't a whole lot of room for too many carbs.

    My Long Journey Alone

I agree...there are other doctors that do this surgery. You may not get the support from the doctor themselves but the office/center should have a support syste such as dieticians, bariatric pharmacists, a therapist you can see, coordinator who you can call with questions. I go to a great place but Ihave to let you know....my doctor is not the one who I get a lot of support from...his office staff and wt loss center is who I call.. Try having one of your family members or friends go with you thru the process....be your go to support person. My husband was/is mine. He went to all of my appointments with me and knows just as much or more than me and reminds me of timing my eating...portion sizes...protein intake. Good luck....this is a great site for support too.
  18. Thats amazing!!!! Good work.

    Bath

I took a bath after my incisions looked completly healed and then was cautious not to soak them in the bath water. I am now 7 weeks out and have been taking nice soaking baths for a few weeks now.
