SO Annoying! Anyone else share my frustration?
cbd replied to Aries's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We are the ones that decided to go thru this...not him. We have to try NOT to judge other people in how or how much they eat. Just take your time....eat over at least twenty minutes , put your fork down between bites and enjoy the food....not the scenery. It is amazing that we used to eat that much too. -
Vacation 4-1/2 months post op.
cbd replied to jgarnick's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I went to Vegas six weeks post op and did fine. I am 41/2 months out now and can handle the alcohol and food fine. Have fun! -
fantastic girl!!!!! Congrats! I love to hear from sleevers that are out for a year. I am out four months and feel great, can't wait to get where you are.

You are not breathing as deep as normal due to the pain it causes. This IS something you need to buck up and do. One major post op complication can be pneumonia (with any kind of abdominal surgery) cause patients tend to shallow breathe not wanting to hurt, then the secretions accumulate in your lungs causing pneumonia. You can prevent this from happening by making yourself take deep breathes....take 10-20 everyhour. Splint your abdomen (hold a small pillow or folded up blanket tight to your abdomen..over you incisions, and breathe deep. You should even try to cough to clear your air passages. Your hospital may of sent you home with an insintive spirometer to help with the deep breathing. Really try to do this even if it hurts. Also you must get up and move even if it hurts, to prevent blood clots from forming. These are basic things to do post op to prevent complications. Take your pain medication and breathe and move. Good luck....the pain gets less everyday and the more you move the faster it gets better.

Haha......you had me going! -
Hi...I have BCBS of IL. Prior to surgery I had someone on this site give me some advice and it was very helpful. After you have been submitted, call BCBS and ask for them to check on the status and explain that you are checking with them to make sure that everything that they need has been submitted. Check back every few days with them. ALWAYS be very polite with lots of pleases and thank you very much....gush kindness. This did work for me and help things get thru a little faster....even though I was denied at first they called me to tell me why and explain what I needed to have to resubmit. Good luck!

Hi...I have BCBS of IL. Yes I was denied the first submission. I had to go back to my primary MD and she had to send a letter explaining that my need for BP med and my need to start a new Cholesterol medication. She also went over my numerous failed attempts to keep the weight off after loosing over the years, the different type of diets I tried. I was approved after that.

started coming out around 3 months out....I get plenty of protein.

Smart Phone Apps! Which ones do you use for diet or exercise?
cbd replied to erics300's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My fitness pal. Love it!!!! The psych doctor I had to see prior to surgery suggested it and said he uses it everyday. Suggested that I use it for the rest of my life. It helps me keep on track , keeps track of my calories as well as my protein and fluid intake. Also tracks exercise! LOVE it! -
None here....I have been up and down on my weight my entire life. First diet at age 13. I am now 53. Starting weight was 235 and am 180 now four months post op. It hasn't been that difficult.

Explaining your weight loss
cbd replied to Indigo1991's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My immediate department knew about the surgery. The rest of the building I only tell if they specifically ask what I have been doing to loose the weight and if we are somewhere private that I can talk about it. If not I just thank them for noticing. It is a private decision. -
Loosing the weight and I don't like my shape
cbd replied to ljperez's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ditto to the above. I can relate though. I feel great and love how I look in my smaller sizes but I am my own worst critic. I am a little less confident in my look now then I was heavier. I automatically look at my abdomen first. When I was heavier I wasn't as critical with myself....go figure! -
I Don’t Have To Finish My Plate or How I’m Fighting With Old Habits
cbd commented on joatsaint's blog entry in Gastric Sleeve Surgery - An Unexpected Journey
Love your humor...thanks for sharing. I am a little more than four months out. I was very worried about eating out. A lot of our socializing is over eating out and I worried about measuring food out in public and in front of others....blah, blah, blah. I have learned that by following the eat slow, chew long and time myself.....I can still do my portion control. If I eat over twenty minutes.....I am full and I stop. I have learned by experience (yuk) that I have to stop at that twenty minutes or else. Good luck! -
It's ok as long as it is going down....that's the right direction. I am a little over 4 months out. I have lost around 49# but it has been slow....no big loss any particular week. I am ok with this. We must be patient....it will come off.
-
Good job....I love hearing from people that are a little further out.
-
Yes to all the above...my experience is how you explained it. I was a tight 18W then after they were to big I dropped to a 16W....when the were too big I am in a 16 and now they are getting loose. Next I will go try on the 14W before I will try a regular 14.

I live about 80 mile southwest of Chicago....went to Peoria for my surgery last January.
-
Thanks for sharing....I too can relate. Thank you for putting it in words. By this time next year you will be heading in the right direction to connect with person you want to be.

As stated it above, that is a surgery for GERD/reflux. It is not an approved procedure for weight loss.

I used unjury pre op by was not able to tolerate it postop. I like zero isopure. 16 oz bottle has 40 gm of protein. It is a clear liquid.

Calling all slowish losers--please post your losses so far!
cbd replied to TES's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Surgery date was 1/10/13 so I am 14.5 weeks out. I was 231 pre op and am 186 now...so a 45 # post op wt loss. Pre op BMI was37.28 and is now 30.02. I do not exercise regularly, the weather is starting to break so I have just started to walk. I am good about getting my fluids in but only get an average of 40 to 53 of my protein in daily.I average 600-800 calories a day. I have averaged around a 3# a week wt loss. I am happy with this...my goal is to keep my weight off after hitting goal not necessarily loss it the fastest. -
My prayers are with you during this very stressful time for you. you could start caling your insurance co every few days. Some one on this site had recommended that to me when I had a crunch time date due to my work. It did help. Always talk to them with the utmost respect. Use a lot of please and thank yous....even explain the situation. Use their names while you talk. and.....follow up with another call. When you do get the approval, ask them to fax it to your surgeons office instead of mailing it. Good luck!

I got a leak - at 4 months post op!
cbd replied to Gourt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
so sorry this has happened to you. My surgeon had told me pre op that leak can occur as far out at six months. I am a little over three months out and do worry about that. I hope your feeling well soon.
