The sleeve and hair loss.
Losin4good replied to sncontreras's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I had surgery in August. My hair loss has pretty much stopped now. Between months 4 and 6 there was quite a bit. My hairdresser suggest nioxin also for hair regrowth. I am also using Moroccan oil in it to help with dryness. I had a ton of hair so i can tell its definitely thinner, but i still have a lot of hair. Once it started to fall out i broke a promise that i made to myself that i would not cut it. I figured losing short strands would be less traumatizing than losing my long locks Good luck! I think it was worth it! 130 pounds for some short term hair loss? Great trade off!! lol -

No sugar added popsicles
Losin4good replied to Losing weight's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Its a treat for me. I have only had a few, because i rarely go to 7-11, but the first few months it helped me feel a little bit "normal" to be able to stop at a convenience store and actually buy something for myself on my way to a class -

Pocket Scales for Eating on the Go
Losin4good replied to NurseGrace's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
That scale looks similar to the one my husband bought me back in november. But mine has a clear "lid" that could be used to weigh things. I still use my kitchen food scale several times a day and my food scale anytime i eat away from home. It may seem a little obsessive, but it works for me -
Pocket Scales for Eating on the Go

What are some things that you cannot eat after surgery that you have before surgery!
Losin4good replied to TTL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The only thing that I still cannot eat at almost 7 months post op is sugar. A bite of something sweet here or there doesnt hurt. But more than one bite gives me flu like symptoms. Chills, sweating, stomach ache, heart racing, and sometimes throw up.i was never a sweet eater pre op, so i doesn't really bother me. Plus it helps keep me in line -
I still go to social functions. I know people still occasionally drink, but i have decided not to. So i just go and have water, juice, tea, etc. i am very open about my surgery, but if people ask, i just tell them i choose not to drink alcohol anymore

I totally understand your concern. When I was pre op I was very firm that i would NOT cut my hair under any circumstances, and I would try every method there is to stop my hair from coming out. I loved my long, thick blonde hair. Well, around 3 months post op it started coming out. It was a little sad at first, then i decided that it would be less traumatic to see short hair falling out than long hair, so i chopped it just above the shoulders. To be honest, I started to care less. I am down 130 pounds in 6 1/2 months. My hair will grow back, but that weight is gone forever! I still have a lot of hair, no bald spots, and it stopped coming out for the most part about a month ago. Good luck!!

I lost quite a bit of hair. And i have bat wings and will definitely need a tummy tuck. But none of those things are even close to being as bad as staying as heavy as i was. Hands down!

Diet Coke Addiction
Losin4good replied to ChristenOnAmission's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I was a diet coke addict as well. I havent had one since July, before i started my pre op diet. I am 6 1/2 months out now and I know some people have tried soda again but i wont even try a sip because 1) i am afraid it will go down fine and i will start drinking it again or 2) the carbonation will not go down fine and i will get sick. I still miss the idea of diet coke. It kind of became my new bff when i quit smoking 3 years ago. I was not looking forward to giving it up, but i knew i had to. Lean on us, thats what we are here for. There are a lot of ex diet coke addicts here. Coincidence? lol!! No! -
SELECTIVE SURGERY DURING SLEEVE SURGURY
Losin4good replied to aaayoungs's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
To answer your question.....if my surgeon gave me the option and i could go back in time, i would definitely have my gallbladder removed during vsg. The pain I went through from gallstones and a gallbladder attack was ridiculous. And having to have gallbladder surgery 12 weeks post op from vsg really freaked me out. -
SELECTIVE SURGERY DURING SLEEVE SURGURY
Losin4good replied to aaayoungs's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My gallbladder had no issues pre op. i had to have mine removed at 3 months post op because it was full of gallstones and I was having a lot of pain. Perfect ever since! Now it seems like everyone i know who had surgery around the sane time i did is having theirs removed. Mine just went kaput first -
I love this thread. I clicked on it just to find out if there was a way to delete, in case i ever wanted to. But ended up bursting out in laughter several times. Thanks for the humor. It is needed today!!

I actually disagree. For me, the pre op diet was far worse than post op. its frustrating to not be able to eat when you are hungry. Like its unnatural. Thats not a food addiction, thats life. We need food to live. Yes i had frustrating times post op, but it was totally different than pre op. not being able to eat post op, my stomach was healing and i wouldn't dare hurt it. But pre op diet felt like cruel punishment lol (even though i know there was a reason for it.) Hang in there. You are on the road to a new you.

Crossing the border with no passport
Losin4good replied to Tim H.'s topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I was told a birth certificate and ID were fine. I am a nervous planner so I expedited my passport and it came in time. My sister was going with me and did not have enough time. We were assured over and over it was fine. Coming back into the states was perfectly fine. I was afraid that because i had mine that the guard would make a big deal about her not having hers, Nope. They didn't even glance twice. Its nothing new to them. Especially for the medical vans that shuttle back and forth everyday. Having your passport is ideal. But if your coordinator says its okay, then i would trust them. They do this everyday.
