October Sleevers-How Ya Doin?
jusstice replied to Holly5.3's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on Oct 24th. I am down 60 lbs total right now. I have no time for the gym (leave for work at 6AM and come home by 7PM) so I need to find a way to get some physical activity in because my thighs are really looking old lady scary. I eat mostly Protein, get in about 50 oz of fluids a day, and take B12 and Biotin regularly. My Vitamins make me sick to my tummy, so I am sure I will have some sort of issue until i can find vitamins that I can toerate. On the hair loss, I have tons of hair, thick and half way down my back. I always lose strands every time I run my hands through it, but even with the Biotin, I see more strands lately. Oh well. I hope it doesn't get too noticable. -

Freezing all the time
jusstice replied to Alabamasleever's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was always cold before, now I am downright freezing. My hands and feet are always ice cold (my nose too). I just dress in layers, fleece, etc, at work and at home. I have comfy Uggs for house shoes to stay warm at hpme. I wear half-gloves things called wristies at work in case the hands are too cold at work. I get I am an advantage since I was always wearing a sweater (even in summer) before, so it is not tht much of an adjustment. -

Christmas Day Challenge!

Mssion accomlished! CGW= 225 CW= 220 Now to see what my next mini-goal will be. -
I think we have old people hands syndrome. I don't know if it's dehydration or if it's because we are losing cushion under the skin. I just know my hands aged 10 years in the first few weeks.

So Disappointed In Myself :(
jusstice replied to Prairiegirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Step away from the scale! It is not our daily friend. My scale says I am in a stall, but my clothes feel looser every day, so I know something is going right. Like PP said, measure yourself and look for the non-scale changes. As for the big losses, I find that the really big losses were either people with lots to lose or guys. People with less to lose will lose it slower and guys lose weight faster anyway. Well, that's what I choose to think anyway. -
Time To Check Out My Hospital's Er!
jusstice replied to lizv123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Sorry to read about your problems. I too have more than occasional flareups of chostoc..., and have wondered what I would be able to take for it since being sleeved. Does ice help you? Usually a nice heating pad strapped to my chest helps me out. Feel better soon. -
I suggest going to a Bliss spa, if there is one near you. It's expensive, but the blue wax they use is painless. If I could see down there I would by the poetic waxing kit (that's what it's called) and just do it at home. I used to go about every six weeks. The staff was nice and very professional. As I got heavier, they would sometimes ask me to help out by holding up the panny and stuff, but other than that no problems. I plan to go back once I hit my mini-goal of 225.

What Are You Eating Tomorrow?
jusstice replied to sleeve_sister's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope to have a little turkey and some potatoes. Oh, and a taste of my mom's homeade Puerto Rican pasteles, which are basically meat patties made with root vegetables. -
Had my surgery on Oct 24 and was sent home on Oct 26. No problems with pain or anything. Well, after the storm, no power or heat. None of my family or friends were up either. Trying to do diet was insane. Doing best I can. Biggest problem is I have questions about wound care that I can't get answered because doctors have no power either. I can't schedule my appointments with the NUT or doctor. What a disaster.

Sandy Related Trouble
jusstice replied to jusstice's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well, they sent me home with the incision sites bandaged with a plastic film over them. These are still intact. Am I supposed to leave them until whenever I get to see the doctor, which was supposed to be this week? The sites don't bother me. I had aoh blood blister on one bandage edge. I get a pain if I bend over, on my left side in between two incision sites. If I don't bend I am good, so I try not to bend. Overall, not too bad. Foodwise, I had to advance myself to applesauce and yogurts because that was what was readily available. I could buy a Greek yogurt in the morning and eat most of the day from it. Hope that didn't mess anything up. Thanks. -
Congrats on the approval. Hope everything goes well for you. Not for nothing- but there is no way in hell that I would have been walking around anywhere with that paper vest. The only way is if the the techs would have stripped down as well to see how they liked being paraded around. I would be lodging some sort of complaint about the level of care, lack of common sense and compassion in that office.

It's About Time :)

Good Luck! -
So, I have a date of Oct 24th- unless the doc doesn't like the way they have scheduled his day. Here's hoping it works. Anyway, I am on Day 1 of the Pre-Op diet, and I hope these two weeks just fly by. Just trying to get the clearance for surgery and whatever else I have to do.

Is It Really That Big A Deal?
jusstice replied to barbi1281's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Like you said, everyone's diet is different. I am on Day 1 of my pre-op diet. My diet is 3 shakes per day, plus a sensible low-carb meal and snack. So far, I am developing a tinge of a headache. I will not like it if it goes into full migraine (as they do) because I usually need two days to recover. -
Ditto!
-
One step closer the end of this particular road. I got a call today that I have been approved. Scheduled my pre-op visit with the surgeon for Friday. Yippee!

I'm all for meeting up! I hope to be sleeved this month as well- just got approval today.

Aetna Sleevers - Share Your Approval And/or Denial Experiences Here!
jusstice replied to funkeechiggen's topic in Insurance & Financing
No date yet for me. They had submitted a date of 10/15 to insurance. Since I found that out on 9/28, I started my pre-op diet on 10/1 (3 shakes and a small meal). I hope it works out for that date, but we will see. I see the surgeon on Friday. -
How is the fibromyalgia? Have you had any serious bouts of pain/faitgue since surgery? Any less? I have it, and it is the one thing which causes concern for the surgeon. I do not take any meds for it though.

Aetna Sleevers - Share Your Approval And/or Denial Experiences Here!
jusstice replied to funkeechiggen's topic in Insurance & Financing
Well, not 1 day turn around, but my Aetna experience was just as good. Doctor's office submitted on 9/27. I phoned on 9/28, and they said check back Monday. I called Monday and was told they were waiting for some additional information. Called today and was told they approved it yesterday! I am so excited. Must say the Aetna people I spoke to were all very sweet, helpful, and polite (then again, I was too). The pre-certification lady even transferred me to the Benefits people when I wanted to double check level of coverage (100% for both hospital & dr). -
When Should I Tell My Boss?
jusstice replied to Babysteppin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I told my immediate supervisor only because of the million and one appointments that I was having which required me to either leave work early or miss work all-together. I also told him because I am planning my surgery around my vacation, but plan to take an extra couple of weeks on STD.
