    question for women

Hi there, I've read that you are statistically more likely to have a c-section after weight loss surgery but they are not sure why they are finding this statistical connection if its the surgery or if its just that overweight women are more likely to have c-sections. It's just a general trend in obstetrics. There is no rule that says you can't have a normal vaginal delivery because you've had weight loss surgery, it will all depend on your medical circumstances at the time. Kitty
  2. Hi all, I have been trying to stuff in a whole lot of extra calories because I have been dropping 3-4 lbs for the last 4 weeks. I have lost a total of 14 lbs and I am only 12 weeks along. Normally I would be thanking my lucky stars for that kind of weight loss but truthfully I am starting to worry that I am going to continue losing weight and eventually lose the baby because its not getting enough food. I have pcos and I have been on metformin up until this week. My question is does anyone else have a similar experience? Does your body realize you need to sustain or gain some weight? Thanks, Kitty

    Still losing weight while pregnant

Hi there, Thanks for the congrats. It has been a long road to getting pregnant for us. We got pregnant with our first son in the first month and after 18 months we started trying with our second. We weren't getting pregnant and after 10 months I went to the dr and they inevitably said I needed to lose weight which was the whole reason I got sleeved. They said after 6 months I would start taking 1500 mg of metformin and it worked within 10 days I conceived and I hadn't even got to the full dose yet. This is apparently not that common only about 7% of women with pcos get pregnant with only metformin so I was very lucky. I continued to take metformin through my first trimester because my ob told me it would reduce the possibility of miscarriage as well as gestational diabetes. However I only took 1000mg because that's all my stomach could handle. I am 12 weeks and 3 days along now and all has been going well other than continuing to lose weight and having to go on omeprazole for terrible heartburn. Anyways that's my story so far, it all started with trying to have a baby and that was in Aug 2011 and I am due in aug 2013. So it's been a two year road to get pregnant which has probably been one of the most difficult periods in my life but I know that that time period is nothing in compared to some women. So I'll thanks my lucky stars for all the good things in my life right now and I truly hope for the best for anyone dealing with weight and infertility. Katherine

    Still losing weight while pregnant

Hi there I am 9 months post op....
  5. Hi, Just wondering of anyone else has had really bad heartburn ( I actually went to the hospital because I thought I might be having a heart attack). I also have had frothing come back and stomach pain in general... This is my second pregnancy and things were never this horrible the first time around. Maybe just getting older or bad luck I don't know... Is this normal for a sleever?
  6. Thanks so much for your comments I went to the dr today and was put back on a ppi (omeprazole) as well. I started taking it this morning and I already feel better.... such a relief...
  7. I just hit 4 weeks out and I've lost about 28 lbs with my 2 week pre-op diet and the surgery combined, but I have been stalled for the last two weeks at the same weight ( basically since I started soft foods). My question is did anyone else have this kind of stall. How did they deal with it and how long did it last? I have been hitting the target of 800 calories 60g of Protein and a limit of 40 grams of carbs. I exercise every second day ( only light exercise since I'm not cleared to really exercise yet) According to an online calorie calculator a person of my age and size should use 3400 calories per day to sustain their weight and I am no where near that. Anyways, I am rambling at this point but thanks for listening... Sincerely Frustrated.

Lol... you do have the same thoughts as me... Thanks for the advice I find water is the hardest battle for me throughout the day. I will try focusing on that over the next week and see if the scale budges

I get all wrapped up in my own head and start to think that I went through all that pain and paid all of that money for nothing... That is my inner pouting Anyways you all made me feel much better now that I know you all hit the wall too and got over it Thanks again !

    Cotton Mouth

  12. Hi all, I am just 17 days out of surgery, but one of the things I've always wanted to do was travel to India. I never really persued it because airplane seats are so uncomfortable for people that are really overweight. Anyways now that I have a skinnier butt to look forward to, I wanted to plan a trip in a year from now as a treat to myself. For those people that are a year or two out how does your stomack handle spicy foods, curries, foreign bacteria etc Just wondering if this is a good idea or not... Kitty
  13. I also took my vacation time to do the surgery. As they say, it's different for everyone but in my case I have surgery on Monday June 25, 2012 and I came back to work on July 3, 2012. So I took 6 days off of work. My stomack muscles were still a bit sore but I made it though the days no problem. I am now 15 days post op and I pretty much feel back to normal. Thet toughest thing for me was grocery shopping (pushing a half full cart uses your stomach muscles more than you'd think and carrying groceries up the stairs was tough too). My reccommendation is to stock up before the surgery,

How Much Did You Lose The First 2-4 Weeks?

I was sleeved June 25th so 12 days ago and I have lost 18lbs.. Just to put things in perspecive though I starting at 306lbs and I am 5'9"

    5 Days Post Op!

Hi there, Like you I had a really good experience as far as surgery goes. I was sleeved on June 25th so I am 12 days out and overall I feel pretty good. I found that Day 0-5 were tough because the clear liquid diet is pretty restrictive, I had two surgical drains sticking out of my belly (which made me feel like some kind monster, and it was tough to sleep) but I didn't have any nausia. Day 5-12 have been pretty good overall. I have two Protein shakes a day to make sure I get at least 50grams of Protein per day and then I take liquid Vitamins, a chewable Calcium and a chewable Iron. I really attribute this regime to making me feel as good as I do. I have been one of the lucky ones in terms of I have felt no nausia or vomiting, I have felt no hunger, and I have healed really well. On the other hand, two years ago I had gallbladder surgery and it went terribly wrong. So for those people who are having a tough time out there, I have nothing but sympathy and I hope you get well soon. Kitty

    Anyone Get Sleeved In Mexico?

Hi Blondeej, Your comments have definitely shed some light on why one would neede therapy after weight loss surgery. You posed a tough question for me which is, are there other reasons why I am overweight? The truth is I have no idea... I know that if I've had a bad day before the surgery I would want a big Mac and fries and that would somehow make me feel better but that is maybe 5% of the time. The other 95% of the time I truely don't know why I have overeaten... but I guess that is part of the reason people have therapy. Anyways, I really appreciate your comments. I have learned a lot from you and because of what you've said I will pursue seeing a therapist at least a few times to see what kinds of thing i need to work on. Thanks, Kitty
  17. Hi All, I just got sleeved in Mexico on June 25, so I am one week post op at this point and feeling pretty good. I have had a pretty great surgery experience and thanksfully no post op complications. I am following all the surgeons direction to the letter and I have had pretty good success so far... down 10.6 pounds in 7 days. Anyways my question for all you experienced sleevers out there are about finding the right support after surgery for success... Because I wasn't sleeved in Canada, I don't have a sugical support group for phycologists and nutritionists. I can access them privately now that I'm home, but I'm wondering if you've found these resources helpful and if so how often do you go and see them? I know at some point I am going to need help but (I hate to sound audacious) but I know a lot about nutrition and I don't have a phycological distorder so why would I go?

    Anyone Get Sleeved In Mexico?

Hi Blondeej, Thanks for your comments! I did do a ton of research and I appreciate what you had to say about the nutritionist. I can easily make sure that I am meeting the guidelines for Protein, Vitamins etc, Just out of curiousity what do people talk about in terms of therapy as it relates to Weight Loss Surgery? I know that might be a very personal question so feel free not to answer, but I'm just wondering because I really don't have a lot of tramatic events in my life which might contribute to overeating. I have been overweight for as long as I can remember. I eat too much and I love food, which is why I got the gastric band, I guess what I'm tying to say, rather inarticulately, is Weight Loss Surgery therapy to explore why we overeat or how we feel as we lose weight? If it's how we feel as we lose weight, I'm just curious if you know what some of the potential problems that people face because for the most part I would have thought people would feel pretty good about it.... Anyways, thanks for the advice, I appreciate it! Kitty
  19. Hi All, I am one week post op and I have noticed my hair seems a little dull and brittle. I already have thin hair and I would like to prevent any major hair loss/damange... does anyone have any tips? Thanks, Kitty
