I hear ya - I used to wake up with a pounding headache too, but I drink a protein shake about an hour before bed. This way I have some fluid and nutrition on board and it has seemed to stop the morning headache. Good luck to you!

Almost 6 Wks Out & Super Tired
UTGal99 replied to robynluevano's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You should be taking in 64 ozs. of fluid daily, 60 grams of protein and try 4 Flintstone chewable vitamins (2 morning, 2 night) and 2 Caltrate 600+D (1 morning, 1 night) and 1 B-12 500 mcg sublingual - this should turn your fatigue around. If not, see your doctor. -
Things I Miss ---But No Longer Can Tolerate.
UTGal99 replied to elisa's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
WOW, 6 months before lettuce? Really? My surgeon says anything is good after week 7. How long does your surgeon have you on liquids post-op? -
I am 6 days post-op and am really struggling to get the 64 ounces of Fluid in daily. I am just full all the time. I am getting about 40 ounces in, but definitely need that additional 24 ounces in. Any suggestions from the veterans?

I understand that you gain weight while at the hospital due to the IV fluids they have you on; however, I was wondering at what point post-op should you see that weight start coming off and losing weight? Also, what is a normal amount of weight loss at the one week post-op visit? Not trying to compare myself to anyone, just curious....

5 Days Post-Op - What Are Possible Complications?
UTGal99 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5 days post-op (sleeved on 10/3/12) - I passed the leak test with flying colors; however, am now wondering what are possible complications that could arise? I am home, feeling great, drinking fluids, eating well, etc. Just want to know what I should be looking for as possible post-op complications??? -
Weigh More After Surgery
UTGal99 replied to UTGal99's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here, quadruplets! I am exact same weight - maybe a pound or two up - I'm thinking b/c our bodies went through a major surgery it is just going to take some time for the scale to start coming down. -
Still Have An Appetite 4 Days Post Op
UTGal99 replied to jlbee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most importantly I am concerned that only 4 days out from surgery I am able to take in 4-6 ozs. Is that normal? I was told by the nutritionist to not expect to get more than 2 bites the size of a small m&m before I was full. What gives??? -
You will get to eat food again, just remember this liquid phase is VERY temporary and you will be dining on food once again (just much smaller portions). I agree, the post-op full liquids is pretty boring...

Still Have An Appetite 4 Days Post Op
UTGal99 replied to jlbee's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow! I feel the same exact way. I was sleeved on October 3rd too! I am having no pain, I am doing fine taking in about 4-6 ozs. at a sitting and food looks appealing to me too. I sure hope someone responds and I agree...I surely hope this is not an indicator or success with the sleeve. -
December 3, 2013 or 2012?

So, here I am two days post-op. I had the gastric sleeve done on Wednesday, 10/3. I am feeling GREAT! I have hardly any pain (on a scale of 0-10, my pain is about a 2 and it is from the incision sites). I was able to walk lots at the hospital and that truly speeds up the recovery process! Honestly, the worst part of the whole experience was the leak test - that drink was TERRIBLE! Other than that things were great! No complications thus far and I look forward to happy, healthy weight loss. I was released today to come home and am on stage 2 of a liquid diet, adding pudding, strained creamed Soups, etc.

McCauley Culkin said it best in the movie Home Alone: "this is it...don't get scared now!" LOL Well, the time has come...I am being sleeved and having a hiatal hernia repair in the morning. I truly can not believe that all the long road to get to this point and it has finally arrived - WOW! I am definitely a bit excited, a bit scared, a bit nervous, etc... Here's hoping all goes well, there are no complications and I recover quickly. Looking forward to sitting on the losers bench...
-
AWESOME! So happy for you. That is a real accomplishment. I am looking forward to getting under 300 too!
-
Congrats! I am getting sleeved tomorrow so I will be right there with you. Looking forward to warming the loser's bench right next to you! Take care and keep us all updated on your progress.

Oct. 3Rd Getting Sleeved
UTGal99 replied to tabithad's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am right there with you, Tabithad. I am getting sleeved and having a hiatal hernia repaired tomorrow. I will be thinking of you! Good Luck to us. We will be on the losers bench VERY soon! -
I am not sure if insurance would consider that a complication; however, you might be able to have the surgeon's office state you are having complications and do a revision on you. Good Luck and keep us posted!

Stall Started At Week Two! Really?
UTGal99 replied to SleeveShelly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't be disappointed - that is 17 pounds!!!! 17 pounds you no longer have. It will take your body time to catch up. Give it time.... Good Luck on the journey! I am being sleeved on Wednesday, 10/3/12. -
I'm sure you will never forget that date - 10 11 12 - pretty neat! Good Luck! I wil be on the surgery table myself on 10/3/12

Well, folks...I have arrived at that moment - the point of no return! I am scheduled for surgery Wednesday, October 3rd. I am having the VSG in conjunction with a hiatal hernia repair. Today, I had my pre-op appointment with the surgeon and signed all the paperwork that literally makes you want to run for the hills. You know the stuff I am talking about....the paper that says you are aware of the complications including leaks, strictures, internal organ damage, blood clots, etc. up to and including death! I understand they have to make you aware but honestly I don't need it to be me that has the complications or heaven forbid dies on the table. I know I should be scared and nervous but I truly am. Any advice from others on how to get past the anxiety. What I am really worried about is being so nervous and scared that the day of surgery my body will create tons of stomach acid due to nerves and I will have lots of vomitting and nausea. Any tips? And for those that have already had the surgery. How long after surgery did you know this was the right decision? My surgeon says just about everyone has buyer's remorse for a little while due to the drastic change to their life.
-
I would inquire with your surgeon - that is unusual, I would think... Also, I agree with NDN_RN...it could be acid. Inquire to get a PPI (proton pump inhibitor) like Prilosec.
-
The stomach growling may not be hunger more stomach acid. A PPI (proton pump inhibitor) like Priolsec should help with that. Awesome weight loss!

Good for you! You need to do what you need to do and I admire your courage to do it. My favorite quote of all time is from the movie The Shawshank Redemption: "Get busy living or get busy dying!" If continuing to stay with your husband is not really living then get to moving along. It will be better for you and your children in the long run. I don't mean to criticize your husband, but he is not being a good role model to the children by sitting around playing video games versus going out and providing for his family. Children need to see that it requires hard work, dedication and commitment to many aspects in life to be successful and happy. Here is wishing you well and be comforted in knowing that you are the only person who can make you happy. I leave you with this quote: "You are on your own and you know what you know. You are the one who will decide where to go." -Dr Seuss

I am scheduled for surgery on October 3rd (one week away). Today I met with the bariatric nurse for my pre-op education class and she said to me "prepare for only two bites and two TINY bites going forward." I said when you say tiny bites, what does that mean exactly. She said "two bites the size of a small M&M and you will be done." Seriously? I am already terrified and not really sure this is what I want to sign on for. Any thoughts from those that are post-op? I would love to hear from others that are 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 12+ months out. I am SO nervous about surgery anyway and just don't want to be saying to myself - why in the hell did you do this to yourself. 2 bites for the rest of your life is not really what I am looking to do. Please help ease my anxiety....

That is wonderful success! Keep up the great work!
